Day62

GIORNO 62

Oggi mi sveglio alle 6.30 e fa molto molto freddo, così penso: "Cari tutti, domani sarò in una città dal dolce clima mediterraneo!!".
Ann e Gary fanno Skype con le nostre famiglie e la coincidenza vuole che oggi siano esattamente due mesi che siamo in America!
A scuola tutto procede normalmente, e nel pomeriggio Barbara ed io andiamo in piscina: mentre lei è nella piscina idromassaggio, io faccio 80 vasche e poi la raggiungo. 
Dopodichè andiamo al bar dove Ann sta leggendo (non si accorge nemmeno che le siamo di fronte da quanto è assorta!), chiacchieriamo e poi torniamo a casa.
Gary ha preparato la cena, da vero "uomo barbecue" ed è tutto davvero buono.
Barbara ed io poi usciamo per una passeggiata.
Preparo la valigia per domani: mancano solo le ultime cose (come lo spazzolino, che userò domani mattina), ma per il resto tutto è pronto e NON VEDO L'ORA.

DAY 62

Today I wake up at 6:30 am and it is very very cold, so I think: "Dear all, tomorrow I will be in a city with a sweet Mediterranean climate!!".
Ann and Gary Skype with our families and, coincidentally, today it's been exactly two months since we are in America!
At school everything precedes normally, and in the afternoon Barbara and I go to the pool: while she is in the hydro massage pool, I make 80 pools and then join her.
Then we go to the bar where Ann is reading (she is so absorbed that she doesn't even notice that we are in front of her!), We talk and then we go home.
Gary has prepared dinner, like a true "BBQ chef" and everything is really good.
Then, Barbara and I go out for a walk.
I prepare my suitcase for tomorrow, leaving out just a few things (like toothbrush, since I will need it tomorrow morning), but otherwise everything is ready and I CAN NOT WAIT.

Day4

GIORNO 4 

Questa mattina ci svegliamo presto per andare in aeroporto e accogliere Barbara, la ragazza belga che sarà ospitata con me e che condividerà questa esperienza. Ann Marie, Gary, Susan (la coordinatrice di Aspect--l'organizzazione americana per gli exchange students) e io guardiamo tutti i passeggeri salire le scale mobili in cerca di Barbara e ci chiediamo chi di noi la vedrà per primo. Aspettiamo un'ora ma non c'è nessuna traccia di lei, nemmeno la sua valigia, quindi Gary pensa che forse non è salita sul volo giusto. Siamo molto preoccupati, perchè lei è sola e minorenne, quindi facciamo un annuncio in aeroporto e proviamo a chiamarla sul cellulare. Proprio quando Ann Marie le sta lasciando un messaggio in segreteria, troviamo Barbara proprio davanti a noi: ha già ritirato le valigie e ci racconta che si è persa cercandoci. Siamo tutti molto più tranquilli, quindi scattiamo qualche foto e poi prendiamo la macchina per tornare a casa. 
Dopo circa un'ora usciamo di nuovo e andiamo a fare l'abbonamento per il cellulare: è abbastanza costoso qui: abbiamo scelto il più conveniente e costa 40$ al mese, ma Gary ci dice che è così dappertutto negli States. L'offerta include 2 gb di internet al mese, messaggi illimitati e chiamate illimitate in territorio americano (c'era anche l'opzione per le chiamate internazionali, ma per quelle usiamo Skype!). Quindi... ora abbiamo un numero americano!
Poi andiamo in biblioteca (Ann deve controllare che tutto sia a posto per la vendita di libri per una raccolta fondi -- lei è volontaria qui e organizza questo tipo di attività).
E' ora di mangiare: andiamo in quella che si portebbe definire "la casa dei noodles" perchè hanno una grandissima varietà di questi spaghetti sottili, accompagnati da altrettanto vari condimenti. Io prendo il "japanese style noodles" e lo divoro: mi piace tantissimo!!
Ora entriamo in vari negozi, e in particolare quelli che vendono il materiale per la scuola (gli americani fanno grandi sconti --Back To School Sales-- in questo periodo che precede l'inizio della scuola): diamo un'occhiata ma non compriamo nulla perchè aspettiamo di sapere quali materie studieremo esattamente. 
Andiamo anche al supermercato e Gary ci insegna a scegliere e togliere la buccia del granoturco: è divertente perchè ha tantissimi strati!
Arrivati a casa, abbiamo del tempo libero fino a cena, quindi faccio un bagno rilassante con della musica di sottofondo e penso: "potrei stare qui per sempre!"
Gary prepara una cena americana a base di hamburger cotte sul barbecue. Anche Will ci raggiunge e mangia con noi: trascorriamo una bella serata tutti insieme!

DAY 4

This morning we wake up early as we'll go to the airport to welcome Barbara, the other exchange student from Belgium who will share this experience with me. Ann Marie, Gary, Susan (the Aspect coordinator) and I look at every single passenger looking for Barbara and we wonder who will see her first. We wait for an hour but she isn't there yet so we start to worry about her. We call her to her cell phone and just when Ann is sending her a message in her voicemail, Barbara shows up: she already has her suitcases with her and she tells us that she got lost in the airport while she was trying to find us. We are all more relaxed now, so we take some pictures and we go home.
After about an hour we go out again and we pay to create our own cell phone American number (in the cricket shop). It's quite expensive here (40$ per month), but we have 2 gb of internet, free texts and free calls in the States, so it's pretty good!
Then we go to the library (Ann has to check if everything is good with the sale of books for foundraising -- she is a volounteer here and she organizes this kind of activities too).
It's time to eat: we go to Noodle's and I have a "japanese style noodles" which I love!
Then we go into many shops, looking for "Back To School Sales": we just take a look but we don't buy anything because we have to wait until we actually know what subjects we're gonna study.
We also go to the grocery shop and Gary teaches us how to remove the peel from corns: it's really fun!!
We get home and we have free time until dinner, so I have a realaxing bath while I listen to my favourite songs and I think: "I could stay here forever!"
Gary prepares a typical American dinner with hamburgers cooked on barbecue. Will reaches us too and eats with us: we have a very good time all together!
