Day4

GIORNO 4

DAY 4

This morning we wake up early as we'll go to the airport to welcome Barbara, the other exchange student from Belgium who will share this experience with me. Ann Marie, Gary, Susan (the Aspect coordinator) and I look at every single passenger looking for Barbara and we wonder who will see her first. We wait for an hour but she isn't there yet so we start to worry about her. We call her to her cell phone and just when Ann is sending her a message in her voicemail, Barbara shows up: she already has her suitcases with her and she tells us that she got lost in the airport while she was trying to find us. We are all more relaxed now, so we take some pictures and we go home.
After about an hour we go out again and we pay to create our own cell phone American number (in the cricket shop). It's quite expensive here (40$ per month), but we have 2 gb of internet, free texts and free calls in the States, so it's pretty good!
Then we go to the library (Ann has to check if everything is good with the sale of books for foundraising -- she is a volounteer here and she organizes this kind of activities too).
It's time to eat: we go to Noodle's and I have a "japanese style noodles" which I love!
Then we go into many shops, looking for "Back To School Sales": we just take a look but we don't buy anything because we have to wait until we actually know what subjects we're gonna study.
We also go to the grocery shop and Gary teaches us how to remove the peel from corns: it's really fun!!
We get home and we have free time until dinner, so I have a realaxing bath while I listen to my favourite songs and I think: "I could stay here forever!"
Gary prepares a typical American dinner with hamburgers cooked on barbecue. Will reaches us too and eats with us: we have a very good time all together!

Day1

GIORNO 1

Inizia l'avventura.

DAY 1

The adventure starts.
I get up at 6.30 am, have a wonderful Italian breakfast, get ready, say hi to my house, take some pictures with my siblings and suitcases and go to the airport. After some problems related to the size and weight of my luggages (they weighted too much), I got my tickets and go to the Metal Detector: It's time to say hallo to my family. After having hugged everyone and cryed a little (not because I'm sad, but because I've been pretty stressed out these days), I get away and get on the plane. The flight is full and I have a seat next to the window, so that I can look out during the trip. I get to Frankfurt and a hostess tells that the aircraft has some problems and that we have to wait until they can fix it. After three hours we get on the plane, which is really big (just to know, my seat is 54d!). We take off and the crew bring lunch, but I don't have it because I've already eaten a sandwich at the airport. I watch a couple of films, "Kingsman" and "The wolf of Wall Street", but I don't see the end of it because I get asleep. The flight is about 9 hours long and times goes by quite fast. I arrive in Denver, claim my suitcases and get to the exit: Ann Marie (my host mom), Gary (my host dad) and Justin (their grandson) are waiting for me with a big poster "welcome Chiara". I think: "I'm finally here!".
Then we go home and go to sleep. I'm happy. I turn off the light, it 10 pm, everything is good!

Day0

ANNO ALL'ESTERO A LOVELAND

A YEAR ABROAD IN LOVELAND

4th HIGH SCHOOL YEAR

The moment has come.
I waited it, yearned for it, desired it, and now that it's here, a shiver runs through my body.
Tomorrow the adventure begins, the biggest challenge I've ever taken up so far: I'll attend an American High School for a whole year!
These days before the departure are really strange, because I already am in the Us mentally, but my body is still here at home.
When it comes to deciding what to bring with me, it is not easy to choose between all my stuff (clothes, jewelry, cards, shoes ...) and I question myself: which are the things which deserve to cross the Ocean with me?

Photos 1 and 2
I was sure: I had to bring these items with me. They are all gifts from my family and friends.
Thank you thank you thank you, you all occupy a place in my little heart.
Thanks Sara and Chiara, your e-reader Kobo will make me read many beautiful books, and your bracelet will bring good luck thanks to its four-leaved clover pendant.
Thanks Teacher Silvia, your ring will guide me whenever I'll write down my thoughts.
Thanks Chiara, like you said, I'll think of you whenever I'll need to know: "What time is it?"
Thanks Alessandra, your bracelet "tonight I will not sleep" will make me laugh and think about every good moment we shared.
Thanks Matilde and Margherita, your undershirt will support me in my Blogger activities.
Thanks Mom and Dad, your earrings, bracelet and T-shirt only prove once again the affection between us.
Thanks Sister, I will always wear your ring and I'll hang your beautiful painting on the walls of my new American bedroom.

Above: my messy bedroom. How can I put everything into my suitcase?!
Below: space-saving solution: vacuum-sealed bags!

Before leaving, however, I could not forget my greatest passion: cooking. I wrote down my favorite recipes and gave them to my family, so that whenever the'll decide to cook some of them, the result will have a small piece of me.
