DAY 228

Sveglia alle 7 per cucinare! Scrivo alla mia mami per gli ultimi consigli, e poi vado giù, pronta per iniziare!
Alarm at 7 am to cook! I write to my mom for the last-minute advice, and then I go downstairs, ready to start!

La prima cosa che metto a cuocere è il ragu di carne: uso un pentolone, perchè le quantità sono davvero grandi, e metto sul fuoco alle 7.30.
The first thing I cook is the ragu (marinara sauce with meat): I use a big pot, because the quantities are really huge, and I put it on the stove at 7.30.

Continuo a girare ogni circa 20 minuti, e ogni volta che sollevo il coperchio, il profumo di casa invade le mie narici e penso a mio nonno: penso che le lasagne siano sempre state una delle sue specialità, e il ragu mi fa tornare bambina...
I keet stirring every about 20 mins, and every time I lift the lid, the smell of my home invades my nostrils, and I think about my grandpa: I believe that lasagna has always been one of his specialties, and ragu makes me a child again...

Dovendo aspettare circa quattro ore prima che il ragu sia completo, decido di iniziare a preparare il dessert: l'amato tiramisu. Questa volta però, chiedo ad Ann se posso usare la mocha per il caffè, che risulta quindi più forte e meno annacquato. Lei risponde "of course", così la riempio e aspetto che il caffè venga su. Nel frattempo preparo la crema al mascarpone, e questa volta il centro dei miei pensieri è la mia sorellina, che ama il tiramisu e che chiede alla mamma di prepararglielo ad ogni suo compleanno. Aspetta un attimo, anche Barbara, adora il tiramisu: il destino vuole che questo dolce sia particolarmente apprezzato dalle mie sorelle!!

Having to wait for about four hours before ragu is complete, I decide to start preparing the dessert: the beloved tiramisu. This time, however, I ask Ann if I can use the mocha ("machine" in the pic) for the coffee, which is therefore stronger and less watered down. She replies "of course", so I the fill it and wait for the coffee to come up. In the meanwhile, I prepare the mascarpone cream, and this time the center of my thoughts is my little sister, who loves tiramisu and always asks my mom to prepare it for her birthdays. Wait a minute, also Barbara loves tiramisu: the fate wants that this dessert is especially appreciated by my sisters!!

And here it is, ready to be eaten tomorrow (unless the guests will be too full for dessert...)

Prossima ricetta: torta pasqualina. Mi sono appuntata tutto quello di cui ho bisogno e che devo fare, su un foglio che è stato sacro per me oggi, e ho completato anche questa ricetta con successo!
Next recipe: Easter cake (kind of quiche). I wrote down everything I need and need to do, on a piece of paper which was holy for me today, and I completed also this recipe with success!

Poi faccio le lasagne: ho leggermente paura per la besciamella, perchè non l'ho mai fatta, ma la mia mami, eh sì di nuovo lei, mi spiega bene come farla e mi salva dicendomi di stare attenta a non lasciarla troppo sul fuoco perchè si rapprende molto prima di quello che potrei pensare. Va tutto liscio per foruna, e le sono grata ancora una volta! Questa è la foto delle lasagne composte, che infornerò poi domani prima di cena!

Then I make lasagna: I was slightly scared for the cheese sauce, because I'd never done it, but my mom, and yes, her again, explains me how to make it well and saves me by telling me to be careful not to leave it too much on the stove because It hardens much sooner than you might think. It's all smooth for foruna, and I am grateful once again! This is the pic of the ready lasagna, that I'll put in the oven tomorrow before dinner!

L'avventura in cucina di oggi si conclude alle 2.30, ma non lascio la stanza fino alle 3, perchè voglio pulire tutti gli utensili che ho usato e che ho accumulato nel lavandino. Una volta finito, sono contentissima di questa giornata (GRAZIE ANN & GARY!!!), e mi sento di andare a fare una passeggiata verso Starbucks -- i soliti 5 km. Barbara decide di venire con me, e sono contenta di condividere il tragitto con lei! Poi vi viene a prendere Will, e torniamo a casa per fare un'attività pasquale molto Americana!

The adventure in the kitchen today ends at 2:30 pm, but I do not leave the room until 3 pm, because I want to clean all the tools that I used and that I have accumulated in the sink. Once finished, I'm very happy for this day (THANK ANN & GARY!!!), and I feel like going for a walk to Starbucks -- the usual 5 km. Barbara decides to come with me, and I'm happy to share the journey with her! Then Will picks us up, and we go home to make a very American-Easter activity!

GIORNO 91

Nel periodo buco, sono così contenta di fare FaceTime con la mia sorellina, la mia mami e il mio fratellone! La Franci è nel letto pronta a dormire, poi la mamma è in camera (e mi emoziono quando ci diciamo che abbiamo in mente la stessa cosa da fare insieme quando sarò tornata a casa!), e poi il Teo, che mi aggiorna su tutto quello che gli sta succedendo. 
Un altro aspetto divertente è vedere gli studenti Americani che mi passano di fianco e che mi guardano sorridendo quando mi sentono parlare in una lingua "animata e veloce!"
Sono anche contenta quando Matt, un amico e compagno di classe, si siede vicino a me e, alla fine dell'ora, chiacchieriamo! Grazie grazie grazie!

DAY 91

During the off hour, I am so glad to do FaceTime with my little sister, my mom and my brother! My Franci is in her bed, ready to sleep, then my mom is in her bedroom (and I get excited when we tell each other that we have in mind the same special thing to do together when I'll be back at home!), and then my Teo, he updates on everything is going on. 
A fun aspect of Skyping with my family when I'm at school is to see the American students who walk next to me and look at me with a smile when they hear me speaking in an "animated and fast" language!
I am also happy when Matt, a classmate and friend, sits next to me and, at the end of the hour, we get to talk! Thanks thanks thanks!

ANNO ALL'ESTERO A LOVELAND

4° ANNO DI LICEO

E' arrivato il momento.

L'ho aspettato, agognato, desiderato, ed ora che è qui, pronto a portarmi via, un brivido mi attraversa tutto il corpo. Domani inizia l'avventura, la sfida più grande che abbia mai raccolto fino ad ora: l'areoporto di Milano-Linate mi aspetta domani mattina, e un grande aereo mi porterà prima a Francoforte, poi a Denver, in Colorado, dove resterò fino a giugno 2016. 

Questi giorni che precedono la partenza sono davvero strani, perchè nonostante con la mia testa io sia già negli Stati Uniti, il mio corpo è ancora qui, a casa, alle prese con le valigie e i saluti alle persone care.

Quando si tratta di decidere cosa portare con me, la difficoltà si alza, perchè non è facile selezionare fra tutte le mie cose (vestiti, gioielli, bigliettini, scarpe...) quali siano quelle giuste, quelle che meritano di attraversare l'Oceano con me.

Solo su alcuni articoli non ho avuto il minimo dubbio: i pensierini di familiari e amici, che insieme alla loro dolcezza, hanno voluto donarmi un simbolo, un oggetto, un portafortuna per l'esperienza che sta per iniziare. Grazie grazie grazie, occupate tutti un posto nel mio cuoricino.

Grazie Sara e Chiara, il vostro e-reader Kobo mi farà leggere tanti splendidi libri, e il braccialetto mi porterà fortuna con il suo quadrifoglio.

Grazie Maestra Silvia, il tuo anello mi guiderà nella scrittura dei miei pensieri.

Prima di partire, però, non potevo dimenticare la mia passione più grande, la cucina: ho trascritto le mie ricette preferite per lasciarle alla mia famiglia, così che ogni qualvolta decideranno di replicarle, il risultato finale avrà anche una mia minima impronta.

A YEAR ABROAD IN LOVELAND

4th HIGH SCHOOL YEAR

The moment has come.

I waited it, yearned for it, desired it, and now that it's here, a shiver runs through my body. 

Tomorrow the adventure begins, the biggest challenge I've ever taken up so far: I'll attend an American High School for a whole year!

These days before the departure are really strange, because I already am in the Us mentally, but my body is still here at home. 

When it comes to deciding what to bring with me, it is not easy to choose between all my stuff (clothes, jewelry, cards, shoes ...) and I question myself: which are the things which deserve to cross the Ocean with me?

Before leaving, however, I could not forget my greatest passion: cooking. I wrote down my favorite recipes and gave them to my family, so that whenever the'll decide to cook some of them, the result will have a small piece of me.
