Il gelato d'estate è per me il regalo più bello al mondo. Da domani ritornerò alla filosofia del "niente dolci", forse...

Oggi ho fatto due nuovi record personali: dormire fino alle nove del mattino (ebbene sì, ho la brutta abitudine di svegliarmi presto anche nel weekend), e ho corso per un'ora senza mai fermarmi. Il sorriso stampato sulle labbra è d'obbligo!

Today I broke two new personal records: I slept until nine in the morning (yes, I have the bad habit of waking up early even at weekends), and I ran for an hour without ever stopping. The smile on his lips is a must!

La pagella è pronta e Gary ci porta a ritirarla in mattinata! La councelor ci fa anche un regalo speciale: una lettera molto dolce ed una nappina che viene solitamente attaccata al cappello dei senior che si diplomano. Ann mi dice che è tradizione appenderlo allo specchietto retrovisore in macchina: Teo, dato che siamo andati alla stessa scuola, ti andrebbe bene unirlo alla nostra 107?

The transcript is ready and Gary takes us to take it in the morning! The councelor also makes us a special gift: a very sweet letter and a tassel that is usually attached to the hat of the seniors who graduate. Ann tells me that it is traditional to hang it from the rear-view mirror in the car: Teo, since we went to the same school, would you add it to our 107?

Nell'orto stanno spuntando i primi germogli, ma questo cespuglio i cattura: è un'erba cipollina che emana aroma d'aglio quando strofinata (non l'avevo mai sentita prima d'ora), e i fiori sono una vera esplosione!

In the vegetable garden, the first buds are popping up, but this bush just captures me: it is a chive that gives off garlic aroma when rubbed (I had never heard it before), and the flowers are a real explosion!

L'ultima cena con la famiglia. Ovviamento scherzo, ma è questo il cin cin che facciamo quando ci portano da mangiare. Domani è un giorno molto importante per Gary e gli auguro tutto il meglio!

Dovete sapere che per la classe di cucina abbiamo speso molto più tempo a scrivere pagine di un quaderno, rispetto ad effettivamente cucinare. Bene, la prof mi ha chiesto di tenere tutti i miei portfolio, da far vedere come esempi. Mah, considerando il fatto che in mano mia sarebbero andati persi o finiti nel cestino, penso proprio che lei ne farebbe miglior uso (oltre a darmi un certo senso di soddisfazione alla fine di questo semestre!).

You should know that for the cooking class we spent a lot more time writing pages of a notebook, compared to actually cooking. Well, the teacher asked me to keep all my portfolio pages, to show as an example. Well, considering the fact that in my hand they would be lost or end up in the trash, I really think she would make best use of them (in addition to giving me a sense of satisfaction at the end of this semester!).

Mentre siamo in libreria, trovo un paio di regali da portare a casa ai nonni (ma non scrivo qui, perchè potrebbero leggere e voglio sia una sorpresa), e ci sediamo per un caffè. Mentre Ann legge giornali d'arte (che io capisco poco), Gary sfoglia quelli di tecnologia, e mi spiega come scattare foto in autoscatto con l'i-phone: ecco la prova con timer 3 secondi e Gary come modello!!

While we are in the book store, I find a few gifts to take home to my grandparents (but I do not write what they are here, because they could read and I want it to be a surprise), and sit down for a coffee. While Ann reads art magazines (which I don't quite understand), Gary browses those of technology, and explains e how to take pictures with a timer with the i-phone: here is the first attempt, with timer 3 seconds and Gary as a model !!

Non pensavo di dover tirar fuori dall'armadio la giaccia super pesante invernale, e invece oggi ne ho proprio sentito il bisogno: ora sono pronta per uscire. Aspetta, un ultimo dettaglio: un caffè super caldo nel thermos!

I did not think of having to pull out of the closet the super heavy winter jacket, and yet today I really felt like I needed it: I am now ready to go out. Wait, one last detail: a super hot coffee in the thermos!

Dopo cena guardiamo Quantico tutti insieme. Abbiamo registrato le puntate e stiamo recuperando ora, ma il problema è che ho letto per sbaglio su facebook chi sia il terrorista. Poco male, sono comunque curiosa di capire come si evolva la situazione! E se non lo avete ancora fatto, andate a scaricarvi la serie e guardatevela dall'inizio, perchè è proprio cool!

After dinner, we watch Quantico all together. We recorded the episodes and we are now catching up, but the problem is that I read by mistake on facebook who the terrorist is. Never mind, I'm still curious to see how the situation evolves! And if you have not already done so, go download the series and watch it from the beginning, because it is really cool!

Sono sempre più felice quando c'è questo tipo di dolcezza nell'aria...

Durante Modern America, iniziamo la guerra del Vietnam in un modo insolito ma produttivo: ascoltanto canzoni il cui testo è significativo e indirizzato proprio all'argomento. La mia preferita è "Born in the USA" di Bruce Springsteen, perchè mi viene voglia di ballare e di andare con la mia mamma (se il papi permette) al concerto che farà a Milano a Luglio -- fra l'altro, il caso vuole che domani sera la tappa del tour sia proprio a Denver!!

During Modern America, we begin the Vietnam War in an unusual but productive way: we listen to songs whose lyrics is meaningful and addressed directly to the topic. My favorite is "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen, because it makes me want to dance and go with my mom (with daddy's permission) at the concert which he will give in Milan in July - among other things, it so happens that tomorrow night the tour stop is right in Denver!!

Pronta per gli allenamenti: oggi la prof di weight lifting è assente, e il supplente è proprio un personaggio: ci fa lavorare, ma ci fa anche molto ridere!
Ready for practice: today the weight lifting teacher is absent, and the sub is quite a character: he makes us workout, but he also makes us laugh a lot!

Gli allenamenti di tennis finiscono prima, perchè inizia a piovere, ma quando torno a casa gioco in camera con la pallina e mi sento molto infantile, ma mi diverto!
The tennis workouts finishes earlier, because it starts to rain, but when I get home, I play in my bedroom with the ball and I feel very childish, but I have fun!

Well, moving on...

Domani dovremmo giocare la nostra prima partita di tennis, ma in realtà questa volta spero venga cancellata: è prevista pioggia o neve, e sinceramente non ci tengo molto a passare 3 o 4 ore al gelo. Comunque sia, venerdì dovrebbe essere bello, e avremo un'altro torneo in casa, sfidando Loveland (rivale per eccellenza), quindi a questo punto preferirei aspettare: sarà sicuramente un pomeriggio eccitante!

D'altra parte, non ho in mano il controllo della situazione (come diceva la mia nonna, "Temp e cu al fa com'è vor lù!"), quindi staremo a vedere! Se però non giocassi, non dovrei uscire da scuola prima e non perderei la classe di weight lifting, che domani sarà super intensa e divertente, perchè cambieremo il workout, spostandoci in piscina per fare Aqua Zumba!!!

Tomorrow we should be playing our first tennis game, but actually, this time I hope it'll be cancelled: rain or snow is expected, and frankly I do not care much to spend 3 or 4 hours out in the cold. However, Friday should be nice, and we will have another home game, against Loveland (rival par excellence), so at this point I'd rather wait: that will definitely be an exciting afternoon!

On the other hand, I do not have the control of the situation, so we'll see! But if we don't play, I will not be released early from school and I'll not miss the weight lifting class, which tomorrow will be super intense and fun, because we will change the workout, moving into  the pool to do Aqua Zumba!!!

Dopo cena, non ho molto da fare, quindi vado a fare una camminata veloce di 5km: c'è una pioggerellina leggera, e continuo ad avere nella mia testa la voce del mio fratellone che mi dice "ma dove vai conciata così?!". In effetti ho su una tuta poco probabile e in testa una fascia che copre le orecchie, ma vediamola così: almeno questa volta non sono uscita col pigiama leopardato, se no sarei proprio stata "da arresto"!!

After dinner, I don't have much to do, so I go for a brisk 5k walk: there is a light drizzle, and I keep hearing my brother's voice in my head, who tells me, "Where do you think you are going dressed like that?!". In fact, I wear an unlikely pair of sweat pants and head band that covers my ears, but let's see it in another perspective: this time at least I did not go out with my leopard pajamas, otherwise I would have been way too bad!!

GIORNO 91

Nel periodo buco, sono così contenta di fare FaceTime con la mia sorellina, la mia mami e il mio fratellone! La Franci è nel letto pronta a dormire, poi la mamma è in camera (e mi emoziono quando ci diciamo che abbiamo in mente la stessa cosa da fare insieme quando sarò tornata a casa!), e poi il Teo, che mi aggiorna su tutto quello che gli sta succedendo. 
Un altro aspetto divertente è vedere gli studenti Americani che mi passano di fianco e che mi guardano sorridendo quando mi sentono parlare in una lingua "animata e veloce!"
Sono anche contenta quando Matt, un amico e compagno di classe, si siede vicino a me e, alla fine dell'ora, chiacchieriamo! Grazie grazie grazie!

DAY 91

During the off hour, I am so glad to do FaceTime with my little sister, my mom and my brother! My Franci is in her bed, ready to sleep, then my mom is in her bedroom (and I get excited when we tell each other that we have in mind the same special thing to do together when I'll be back at home!), and then my Teo, he updates on everything is going on. 
A fun aspect of Skyping with my family when I'm at school is to see the American students who walk next to me and look at me with a smile when they hear me speaking in an "animated and fast" language!
I am also happy when Matt, a classmate and friend, sits next to me and, at the end of the hour, we get to talk! Thanks thanks thanks!

Day12

GIORNO 12

Quando mi sveglio accendo il cellulare e mi arrivano i messaggi della mia famiglia: mi avvisano che il mio account di Faceboook è bloccato e che era attivo alle 4 am ora americana (non ero sicuramente io perchè stavo dormendo a quell'ora!). Provo ad entrare, cambiare la password e farmi spedire via mail codici di sicurezza di ogni tipo, ma niente: devo verificare la mia identità. Faccio Skype con i miei e, tralasciando i dettagli, alle 3 del pomeriggio riottengo il mio account. Non che io tenga troppo a Facebook, però mi dà fasstidio pensare che qualcun altro abbia accesso al mio profilo, quindi tirro un sospiro di sollievo quando vedo che riprende a funzionare.
Comunque sia, in mattinata andiamo a fare la spesa con Gary, per comprare il necessario per i nostri pranzi a scuola, poi torniamo a casa, mangiamo (cucino pasta al pesto per me e Barbara mentre Gary si prepara un sandwich) e usciamo di nuovo: dobbiamo comprare ancora qualche materiale scolastico per Barbara, un orologio sportivo per me e delle magliette per Gary. Quando dobbiamo pagare, Gary ci dà un coupon da 10$, così Barbara ed io risparmiamo 5$ a testa sui nostri acquisti!
Ora Gary ci lascia a Centerra, un promenade shop, ovvero un grande mall all'aperto: una vera e propria cittadina di negozi, dove strade, macchine e persone si incrociano in ogni angolo.
Qui incontriamo Katie e Shelby, due ragazze con cui andiamo a mangiare e fare shopping. Barbara compra un paio di Converse simili alle mie Superga (mi piacciono molto!), mentre io provo dei tacchi che però alla fine lascio. 
Torniamo a casa con Shelby (ha la nostra età ma può guidare, perchè qui la patente si può prendere dai 16 anni!) e per cena Gary prepara bistecche di maiale con patate, zucchine, granoturco. Questa sera c'è anche Will con noi. Che bella serata!

DAY 12

When I wake up I turn on my cell-phone and I receive texts from my family: my Facebook account is blocked and someone different from me used it at 4 am. I try to enter but it says that I have to confirm my identity. I ask for help to my family, we Skype and, to make it simple, at 3 pm I got it unblocked. I am happy now: it's not that I care too much about Facebook, but I don't like the idea that someone else can use my profile. 
Anyway, we do the shop with Gary in the morning to buy lunch stuff for the week, then we come home, have lunch (I cook pasta for Barbara and me while Gary eats a sandwich) and we go out again: we have to buy other school supplies for Barbara, a sports watch for me and two t-shirts for Gary. When it comes to pay, Gary gives us a 10$ saving coupon, so Barbara and I save 5$ each!
Now Gary drops us off at Centerra, a promenade shop: it seems like a shopping city, where shops, cars, streets and people cross at every corner. 
We meet Katie and Shelby here and we have lunch together (they haven't eaten yet). Then we go shopping: Barbara finds a pair of Converse similar to my Superga (I like them!), while I try a pair of heels on put then leave them there (they're not my size).
We come back home with Shelby (she drives: here you can get your licence at 16!) and for dinner Gary prepares pork chop, smashed potatoes, zucchini, corn. Tonight Will comes too. What a wonderful night!
