DAY 198

Premessa

Sono abbastanza rimbambita (sto perdendo la testa?!): ho scoperto di aver promesso a quattro persone diverse di fare Skype questa mattina, e per di più alla stessa ora. Ho dovuto dare la priorità alle due amiche che non vedevo da più tempo, ma sono orgogliosa di me per riuscire, in un modo o nell'altro, a parlare anche con le altre (i miei fratelli e Margherita). Urrà!

Premise

I am pretty forgetful (loosing my mind?!): I discovered that I had promised to four different people to Skype with this morning, and, in addition, at the same time. I had to give priority to the two friends I had not seen for the longer time, but I'm proud of myself because I'm able, in one way or another, to talk also with the others (my siblings and Margherita). Hooray!

Mi sveglio abbastanza presto e faccio Skype con Sara e Chiara, mentre mangio un orribile oatmeal (non ho messo lo zucchero, e sembra cibo per uccelli...)!
I wake up early enough and I Skype with Sara and Chiara, while eating a horrible oatmeal (I did not put sugar, and it tastes like birds food ...)!

Ann va a dipingere (fra l'altro sta riproducendo un castello sul lago di Varese, e l'opera è quasi completa: sembra fatta da un professionista, che dire--- complimenti!), e mi lascia in piscina: mi mancava tanto nuotare!
Ann goes to paint (among others, she's reproducing a castle in Lake Varese in Italy, and the work is almost complete: it seems like it was made by a professional, what can I say... congratulations!), and she leaves me in the pool: I missed swimming so much!

Vado al Coffee Tree a studiare e finire qualche compito.
Due signore sono sedute al bancone dietro di me, e una di loro (che più tardi scoprirò chiamarsi Kathy) sta raccontando all'altra (Carla) del programma per il suo viaggio in Italia di questa estate. Decido così di avvicinarmi e dico "Hey, I'm from Italy!". Inizia così una conversazione lunga 45 minuti, durante la quale mi chiedono consigli, impressioni, abitudini ecc. Ad un certo punto devo allontanarmi, perchè devo fare Skype con i miei fratelli, ma è stato interessante parlare con loro. E' questa un'abitudine che voglio sicuramente portare in Italia con me: andare in un bar, prendersi un caffè, guardarsi attorno ed iniziare una conversazione con estranei, con i quali ci si arricchirà a vicenda!

I go to the Coffee Tree to study and finish some homework.
Two ladies are sitting at the counter behind me, and one of them (who, as I'll later find out, is called Kathy) is telling to the other one (Carla) about the program for her trip to Italy this summer. So I decide to go around them and say "Hey, I'm from Italy!". This way, a long conversation of about 45 minutes starts, during which they ask me for advice, impressions, habits and so on. At some point I have to go away, because I'll Skype with my siblings, but it was interesting to talk to them. And this is a habit that I definitely want to bring back to Italy with me: go to a cafe, have a coffee, look around and start a conversation with strangers, with whom we'll enrich each other for sure!

Sono sicura che ora mi prenderanno in giro per aver scritto questa frase sul blog, ma non mi interessa, perchè questo è quello che penso dentro di me. Mi fanno sempre divertire e sentire vicina a loro: grazie!

I'm sure that time will fool with me for writing this sentence on the blog, but I don't mind, because this is what I think to myself. They always make me happy and feel closer to them: thank you!

Briana, Ann ed io andiamo a mangiare da Qdoba! Sono particolarmente soddisfatta, perchè di solito le porzioni sono molto grosse qui, e trovo quindi un buon compromesso, ordinando un tacos singolo (metterò una foto qui sotto, perchè nemmeno io, prima di venire in America, sapevo cosa un tacos fosse!).
Briana, Ann and I have lunch at Qdoba! I am particularly pleased, because usually the portions are very big here, but I find a good compromise, ordering a single tacos (I'll put a picture below for the Italians, because even I, before coming to America, did not know what a taco was!).

Nel pomeriggio, non avendo nient'altro in programma, andiamo tutte insieme a fare shopping (Briana, Barbara, Ann ed io) a Centerra. Lasciamo Ann in libreria, dove si ferma a leggere bevendo un cafè, mentre noi tre sorelle andiamo per negozi. Io compro questi orecchini molto luccicanti, per cambiare un po' le abitudini, e li indosso appena esco dal negozio: brillano molto, ma mi piacciono molto! Che bel pomeriggio.
In the afternoon, since we have nothing scheduled, we go shopping all together (Briana, Barbara, Ann and I) in Centerra. We leave Ann at the library, where she'll read while drinking a coffee, while we three sisters go browsing (and buying). I buy these very sparkly earrings, to change my usual habits, and I wear them as soon as I get out of the store: they shine a lot, but I like them a lot! What a fun afternoon.

Barbara va a dormire da Briana, mentre io resto a casa con Ann: non siamo super affamate, ma so che a lei piacciono molto i popcorn, quindi mi offro di prepararglieli. Premesso che non è per niente difficile, riesco comunque a bruciarli, e a bruciare anche i fagiolini che stavo cuocendo nella pentola di fianco. 

....Mhm, dovrei essere l'esperta in cucina...

Alla fine sistemo tutto, e i risultati sono soddisfacenti.

E' giovedì sera, quindi ci mettiamo sul divano e guardiamo Grey's Anatomy e Scandal (serie che Ann e Gary seguono, creata dalla stessa regista, Shonda Rhimes). Mi piace tanto stare con lei...

Barbara will spend the night at Briana's, while I stay at home with Ann: we are not super hungry, but I know that she really likes popcorn, so I volunteer to prepare them for her. Given that it is not hard at all to make them, I still burn them, and I also burn the beans I am cooking in the next pot.

... Well, I should be the expert in the kitchen...

 Eventually I arrange everything, and the results are satisfactory.

It's thursday night, so we sit on the couch and watch Grey's Anatomy and Scandal (series that Ann and Gary follow, created by the same director, Shonda Rhimes).

I love to be with her...

Splendida giornata con Maddalena: dovevo venire in America per trovare una delle persone più belle che conosca. Mi sento fortunata.

Wonderful day with Maddalena: I had to come the the States to find one of the most beautiful person I've ever met. I fell like I was so lucky.

Maddalena è una fotografa, e mi sono incantata a vedere tutti i suoi scatti. Così oggi, camminando con Ann, ho visto questo cielo e non ho potuto fare a meno di fotografarlo. Cosa ne dici Maddi??

GIORNO 25

Questa mattina faccio Skype con la mia famiglia: la giornata inizia sempre con una marcia in più quando parlo con loro. Oggi poi è venuto anche il nonno a salutarmi e l'ho sentito davvero vicino. Abbiamo parlato per due ore e saremmo potuti andare avanti ma mi sembrava troppo, quindi abbiamo chiuso la chiamata! Riceverò un regalo grandissimo per Capodanno, ma non voglio dare troppi dettagli ora, per scaramanzia. Prometto che appena andrà in porto, scriverò tutto tutto. Intanto posso solo dire un enorme grazie alla mia famiglia <3
In mattinata faccio un po' di compiti (storia Americana e scrivo la mia prima Medical Story per anatomia, che è una specie di report di un caso clinico), mentre Barbara cucina il suo cous cous. 
Per pranzo mangiamo salmone affumicato cucinato da Gary, con squash - una zucchina particolare che penso non esisti in Italia - pera e formaggio. 
Subito dopo pranzo andiamo a fare shopping a Centerra e prendiamo un chai tea Barbara e un cafè mocha io (ora il mio preferito in assoluto). Nel frattempo Ann e Gary fanno una passeggiata di 5 km in soli 55 minuti (complimenti! Giuseppe, il mio grande amico italiano, ed io abbiamo fatto la stessa passeggiata in Italia impiegandoci più o meno lo stesso tempo, tenendo conto però che abbiamo quarant'anni meno di loro, ops!). 
Poi andiamo in un negozio Levis e provo qualche jeans ma nessuno di questi mi sta come vorrei, quindi andiamo in un altro negozio, Old Navy, e dopo l'aiuto di Ann e di qualche cassiera, finalmente trovo il paio che sto cercando: jeans comodi, non attillati!
Tornando a casa ci fermiamo al supermercato per comprare altra mozzarella, lievito e pomodoro per la pizza che farò domani: dovrò raddoppiare la dose perchè anche Shane e Briana si uniranno a noi!
Il cous cous è buonissimo!!
Dopo cena guardiamo "Il diario di Bridget Jones" e poi andiamo a dormire.

DAY 25

This morning I Skype with my family: the day always begins with a plus when I talk with them. Today came also my grandfather to say hi and I felt really close to him. We talked for two hours and we could go on but it seemed too much to me, so we hung up the call! I'll receive a great present for the New Year's Eve, but I will not give too many details now, out of superstition. I promise that as soon as it successfully completes, I will write everything here. Meanwhile, I can only say a big thanks to my family <3
In the morning I do some homework (American history, and I write my first Medical Story for anatomy), while Barbara cooks her couscous.
For lunch we eat smoked salmon cooked by Gary, with squash - particular zucchini that I think do not exist in Italy - pear and cheese.
Immediately after lunch we go shopping at Centerra and Barbara buys a chai tea while I take a cafe mocha (which is now my absolute favorite). Meanwhile Ann and Gary go for a 5 km walk in just 55 minutes (congrats! Giuseppe, my great Italian friend, and I, made the same walk in Italy in almost the same time, taking into account that, however, we are forty years younger than them, oops!). 
Then we go to a store and I try some Levis jeans but none of them is as I would like them, so we go to another shop, Old Navy, and, with Ann and a cashier's help, I finally find the pair of jeans I'm looking for: comfortable, not tight!
Returning home we stop at the supermarket to buy more mozzarella, tomato and yeast for the pizza that I will do tomorrow: I will have to double the dose because Shane and Briana will join us!
The couscous is delicious!!
After dinner we watch "Bridget Jones's Diary" and then go to sleep.

Day12

GIORNO 12

Quando mi sveglio accendo il cellulare e mi arrivano i messaggi della mia famiglia: mi avvisano che il mio account di Faceboook è bloccato e che era attivo alle 4 am ora americana (non ero sicuramente io perchè stavo dormendo a quell'ora!). Provo ad entrare, cambiare la password e farmi spedire via mail codici di sicurezza di ogni tipo, ma niente: devo verificare la mia identità. Faccio Skype con i miei e, tralasciando i dettagli, alle 3 del pomeriggio riottengo il mio account. Non che io tenga troppo a Facebook, però mi dà fasstidio pensare che qualcun altro abbia accesso al mio profilo, quindi tirro un sospiro di sollievo quando vedo che riprende a funzionare.
Comunque sia, in mattinata andiamo a fare la spesa con Gary, per comprare il necessario per i nostri pranzi a scuola, poi torniamo a casa, mangiamo (cucino pasta al pesto per me e Barbara mentre Gary si prepara un sandwich) e usciamo di nuovo: dobbiamo comprare ancora qualche materiale scolastico per Barbara, un orologio sportivo per me e delle magliette per Gary. Quando dobbiamo pagare, Gary ci dà un coupon da 10$, così Barbara ed io risparmiamo 5$ a testa sui nostri acquisti!
Ora Gary ci lascia a Centerra, un promenade shop, ovvero un grande mall all'aperto: una vera e propria cittadina di negozi, dove strade, macchine e persone si incrociano in ogni angolo.
Qui incontriamo Katie e Shelby, due ragazze con cui andiamo a mangiare e fare shopping. Barbara compra un paio di Converse simili alle mie Superga (mi piacciono molto!), mentre io provo dei tacchi che però alla fine lascio. 
Torniamo a casa con Shelby (ha la nostra età ma può guidare, perchè qui la patente si può prendere dai 16 anni!) e per cena Gary prepara bistecche di maiale con patate, zucchine, granoturco. Questa sera c'è anche Will con noi. Che bella serata!

DAY 12

When I wake up I turn on my cell-phone and I receive texts from my family: my Facebook account is blocked and someone different from me used it at 4 am. I try to enter but it says that I have to confirm my identity. I ask for help to my family, we Skype and, to make it simple, at 3 pm I got it unblocked. I am happy now: it's not that I care too much about Facebook, but I don't like the idea that someone else can use my profile. 
Anyway, we do the shop with Gary in the morning to buy lunch stuff for the week, then we come home, have lunch (I cook pasta for Barbara and me while Gary eats a sandwich) and we go out again: we have to buy other school supplies for Barbara, a sports watch for me and two t-shirts for Gary. When it comes to pay, Gary gives us a 10$ saving coupon, so Barbara and I save 5$ each!
Now Gary drops us off at Centerra, a promenade shop: it seems like a shopping city, where shops, cars, streets and people cross at every corner. 
We meet Katie and Shelby here and we have lunch together (they haven't eaten yet). Then we go shopping: Barbara finds a pair of Converse similar to my Superga (I like them!), while I try a pair of heels on put then leave them there (they're not my size).
We come back home with Shelby (she drives: here you can get your licence at 16!) and for dinner Gary prepares pork chop, smashed potatoes, zucchini, corn. Tonight Will comes too. What a wonderful night!
