DAY 198

Premessa

Sono abbastanza rimbambita (sto perdendo la testa?!): ho scoperto di aver promesso a quattro persone diverse di fare Skype questa mattina, e per di più alla stessa ora. Ho dovuto dare la priorità alle due amiche che non vedevo da più tempo, ma sono orgogliosa di me per riuscire, in un modo o nell'altro, a parlare anche con le altre (i miei fratelli e Margherita). Urrà!

Premise

I am pretty forgetful (loosing my mind?!): I discovered that I had promised to four different people to Skype with this morning, and, in addition, at the same time. I had to give priority to the two friends I had not seen for the longer time, but I'm proud of myself because I'm able, in one way or another, to talk also with the others (my siblings and Margherita). Hooray!

Mi sveglio abbastanza presto e faccio Skype con Sara e Chiara, mentre mangio un orribile oatmeal (non ho messo lo zucchero, e sembra cibo per uccelli...)!
I wake up early enough and I Skype with Sara and Chiara, while eating a horrible oatmeal (I did not put sugar, and it tastes like birds food ...)!

Ann va a dipingere (fra l'altro sta riproducendo un castello sul lago di Varese, e l'opera è quasi completa: sembra fatta da un professionista, che dire--- complimenti!), e mi lascia in piscina: mi mancava tanto nuotare!
Ann goes to paint (among others, she's reproducing a castle in Lake Varese in Italy, and the work is almost complete: it seems like it was made by a professional, what can I say... congratulations!), and she leaves me in the pool: I missed swimming so much!

Vado al Coffee Tree a studiare e finire qualche compito.
Due signore sono sedute al bancone dietro di me, e una di loro (che più tardi scoprirò chiamarsi Kathy) sta raccontando all'altra (Carla) del programma per il suo viaggio in Italia di questa estate. Decido così di avvicinarmi e dico "Hey, I'm from Italy!". Inizia così una conversazione lunga 45 minuti, durante la quale mi chiedono consigli, impressioni, abitudini ecc. Ad un certo punto devo allontanarmi, perchè devo fare Skype con i miei fratelli, ma è stato interessante parlare con loro. E' questa un'abitudine che voglio sicuramente portare in Italia con me: andare in un bar, prendersi un caffè, guardarsi attorno ed iniziare una conversazione con estranei, con i quali ci si arricchirà a vicenda!

I go to the Coffee Tree to study and finish some homework.
Two ladies are sitting at the counter behind me, and one of them (who, as I'll later find out, is called Kathy) is telling to the other one (Carla) about the program for her trip to Italy this summer. So I decide to go around them and say "Hey, I'm from Italy!". This way, a long conversation of about 45 minutes starts, during which they ask me for advice, impressions, habits and so on. At some point I have to go away, because I'll Skype with my siblings, but it was interesting to talk to them. And this is a habit that I definitely want to bring back to Italy with me: go to a cafe, have a coffee, look around and start a conversation with strangers, with whom we'll enrich each other for sure!

Sono sicura che ora mi prenderanno in giro per aver scritto questa frase sul blog, ma non mi interessa, perchè questo è quello che penso dentro di me. Mi fanno sempre divertire e sentire vicina a loro: grazie!

I'm sure that time will fool with me for writing this sentence on the blog, but I don't mind, because this is what I think to myself. They always make me happy and feel closer to them: thank you!

Briana, Ann ed io andiamo a mangiare da Qdoba! Sono particolarmente soddisfatta, perchè di solito le porzioni sono molto grosse qui, e trovo quindi un buon compromesso, ordinando un tacos singolo (metterò una foto qui sotto, perchè nemmeno io, prima di venire in America, sapevo cosa un tacos fosse!).
Briana, Ann and I have lunch at Qdoba! I am particularly pleased, because usually the portions are very big here, but I find a good compromise, ordering a single tacos (I'll put a picture below for the Italians, because even I, before coming to America, did not know what a taco was!).

Nel pomeriggio, non avendo nient'altro in programma, andiamo tutte insieme a fare shopping (Briana, Barbara, Ann ed io) a Centerra. Lasciamo Ann in libreria, dove si ferma a leggere bevendo un cafè, mentre noi tre sorelle andiamo per negozi. Io compro questi orecchini molto luccicanti, per cambiare un po' le abitudini, e li indosso appena esco dal negozio: brillano molto, ma mi piacciono molto! Che bel pomeriggio.
In the afternoon, since we have nothing scheduled, we go shopping all together (Briana, Barbara, Ann and I) in Centerra. We leave Ann at the library, where she'll read while drinking a coffee, while we three sisters go browsing (and buying). I buy these very sparkly earrings, to change my usual habits, and I wear them as soon as I get out of the store: they shine a lot, but I like them a lot! What a fun afternoon.

Barbara va a dormire da Briana, mentre io resto a casa con Ann: non siamo super affamate, ma so che a lei piacciono molto i popcorn, quindi mi offro di prepararglieli. Premesso che non è per niente difficile, riesco comunque a bruciarli, e a bruciare anche i fagiolini che stavo cuocendo nella pentola di fianco. 

....Mhm, dovrei essere l'esperta in cucina...

Alla fine sistemo tutto, e i risultati sono soddisfacenti.

E' giovedì sera, quindi ci mettiamo sul divano e guardiamo Grey's Anatomy e Scandal (serie che Ann e Gary seguono, creata dalla stessa regista, Shonda Rhimes). Mi piace tanto stare con lei...

Barbara will spend the night at Briana's, while I stay at home with Ann: we are not super hungry, but I know that she really likes popcorn, so I volunteer to prepare them for her. Given that it is not hard at all to make them, I still burn them, and I also burn the beans I am cooking in the next pot.

... Well, I should be the expert in the kitchen...

 Eventually I arrange everything, and the results are satisfactory.

It's thursday night, so we sit on the couch and watch Grey's Anatomy and Scandal (series that Ann and Gary follow, created by the same director, Shonda Rhimes).

I love to be with her...

Ok, questa faccia poco probabile ha un perchè: è sabato mattina, il primo giorno di un weekend lungo che durerà fino a martedì compreso, e decido di andare in piscina, dove faccio 100 vasche, e in palestra, dove corro sul tapis roulant. Nel mezzo, mi regalo 15 piacevoli minuti nella vasca idromassaggio all'aperto: la sensazione sul mio corpo, quando finisco le vasche ed apro la porta per uscire all'aperto, mi lascia senza fiato (nel senso letterale -- sembra entrare in una camera frigorifera, con soltanto un costume bagnato addosso...), ma, non appena entro nella vasca, non c'è sensazione migliore al mondo. Vengo a nuotare in questo centro ormai da cinque mesi, ma non avevo mai avuto il coraggio di provare questo paradiso terrestre: ebbene, è giunta l'ora che questa diventi un'abitudine!

Well, this unlikely face has a reason: it's Saturday morning, the first day of a long weekend that will last until Tuesday, and I decide to go to the swimming pool, where I swim 100 laps, and to the gym, where I run on the treadmill. In between, I give myself a pleasant 15-minutes in the outdoors hot tub: thee feeling on my body, when I finish the laps and open the door to go outside, leaves me breathless (literally -- it seems like going into a freezing room, with just a wet costume on...), but as soon as I enter the hot tub, there is no better feeling in the world. I've been going swimming in this center for five months now, but I never had the courage to try this earthly paradise: well, it is time to make this a habit!

E' incredibile come il mio cervello funzioni cento volte meglio dopo aver fatto sport e con una buona tazza di caffè e latte di fronte a me!

Questa volta però ho "tradito" Starbucks, per questo bar caratteristico nei dintorni della palestra/piscina...
This time I "betrayed" Starbucks though, in favor of this caracteristic cafe close to the gym/swimming pool...

Ed eccoci qui: dopo tutte queste belle cose, entro nel negozio di forniture per artisti dove Ann frequenta le sue lezioni di pittura. Ho la fortuna di poter assistere ad un'ora della sua lezione, durante la quale le "studentesse" si scambiano commenti sui propri lavori, l'insegnante fa una dimostrazione sulla realizzazione di quadri che hanno per soggetto i fiori, e le "studentesse" si mettono al lavoro per creare il proprio vaso, composizione e sfondo. Vedere la maestria con cui si muovono con i pennelli mi fa sperare di avere questa stessa abilità, anche se lascia molto a desiderare in me!

And here we are: after all these beautiful things, I enter this supply store for artists where Ann attends her painting classes. I am lucky to be able to be a spectator of an hour of her lesson, during which the "students" exchange comments about their works, the teacher does a demo on how to make paintings whose subject is flowers, and the "students" start to work to create their own vase, composition and background. Seeing mastery with which they move with the brushes and paint makes me hope to have this same ability, even if it leaves much to be desired in me!

E, per finire questa giornata piena, Ann, Barbara ed io andiamo a correre nel parcheggio di un centro commerciale (uno degli unici posti in cui non c'è ghiaccio sull'asfalto), per seguire il nostro programma verso i 5km!

And, to conclude this full day, Ann, Barbara and I go running in the parking lot of a mall (one of the few placed where there's no ice on the asphalt), to keep up with our program towards the 5k!

Dopo la lavatrice, rifaccio il letto ed aggiungo una nuova, bella coperta: pronta per andare a dormire? Non ancora, perchè guardiamo il (bel) film "Sette Anime". Buona notte a tutti!!!!
After the laudry, I re-do my bed and I add a new, beautiful blanket: ready to go to sleep? Not yet, 'cause we watch the (good) movie "Seven pounds". Good night to everyone!!!!

DAY 121

Oggi vado con il prof e alcuni compagni di anatomia ad un laboratorio a Fort Collins, dove assisteremo ad una lezione sul corpo umano, di fronte ad un cadavere. Il cadavere è stato dissezionato ed è quindi riconoscibile in tutte le sue parti. Abbiamo indossato il camice e i guanti, e abbiamo potuto osservare e toccare con mano tutti gli organi, ossa, tendini... 

Non scenderò in particolari, perchè non ritengo sia giusto nei confronti del cadavere, ma posso dire che è stata per un'esperienza davvero davvero toccante, interessante, piena. Posso solo dire che ce l'ho fatta, non sono svenuta nè sentita male (cosa che temevo davvero), anche se all'inizio, l'odore pungente e la vista di quello che ci aspettava, mi hanno spaventata un po'. 

Grazie per questa altra, nuova esperienza.

A scuola procede tutto bene, durante l'ora di Inglese facciamo una competizione di vocaboli e vinco delle caramelle (che però non mangio perchè ho deciso di evitare i dolci...)!

Nel pomeriggio vado in piscina, mentre Barbara mi aspetta in biblioteca, poi la aiuto per un'ora a fare matematica e, una volta finiti i suoi esercizi, camminiamo verso Mo' Betta Gumbo, dove mangiamo uno squisito Gumbo (tipo spezzatino di pollo, con riso e pane di granoturco. Gnam Gnam). 

Barbara, oggi ho passato proprio una bella serata con te, ti voglio bene.

Ann e Gary ci vengono a prendere, torniamo a casa (e per fortuna è presto, sono solo le sette, quindi abbiamo tempo per preparare il pranzo per domani, scrivere e rilassarci).

Alla tarda ora delle 9, Chiarina va a dormire. Notte. 

Today, with my anatomy teacher and some classmates, I go to a lab in Fort Collins, where we will attend a lecture on the human body, in front of a corpse. The corpse was dissected and is then recognizable in all its parts. We wore the gown and gloves, and we could see and touch all the organs, bones, tendons... 

I will not go into details, because I think it is not fair to the man, but I can say that it was a really really touching, interesting, full experience. I can only say that I did not neither fainted nor felt bad (which I really feared), although at the beginning, the pungent smell and the sight of what was waiting for us, scared me a little. 

Thank you for this other, new experience.

At school everything goes well, during the English class we do a "competition game" about vocabulary and I win the candies (but I do not eat them because I have decided to avoid sweets ...)!

In the afternoon, I go to the pool, while Barbara is waiting for me in the library, then I help her for an hour to do maths and, once we finish her exercises, we walk to Mo' Betta Gumbo, where we eat a delicious Gumbo (a kind of chicken stew, with rice and corn bread. Yum Yum).

Barbara, today I just spent a very nice evening with you, I love you.

Ann and Gary pick us up, we go home (and luckily it is not late, it's only 7 pm, so we have time to prepare the lunch for tomorrow, write and relax).

At the late hour of 9 pm, Chiarina goes to sleep. Night.

GIORNO 76

Pubblico qualche foto delle cose che mi sono arrivate da Amazon negli ultimi giorni (forse avete già visto il bicchiere bianco e azzurro, perchè l'ho già usato per una mocha!). 

Per il resto ho ricevuto delle calze pesanti per le rigide temperature che mi attendono nelle rossime settimane/mesi, camomilla da bere prima di andare a letto (è una tradizione della mia mamma e voglio continuarla anche qua, perchè no!) 

-- Fermi un secondo, se mi chiamerete nonna, per questi acquisti, bhe... questa volta non posso biasimarvi! --

e una cover trasparente per il telefono: sembra rigida e resistente, incrociamo le dita!

Gary mi porta in piscina, dove nuoto e conosco un signore abbastanza anziano, che si complimenta per il mio stile (grazie dds!) e inizia a raccontarmi della sua vita e carriera (tra le altre cose, è stato istruttore di nuoto per 37 anni). Questi incontri inaspettati rallegrano e diversificano le giornate, oltre che arricchirle!

Iniziamo la serie "Quantico" e promette davvero bene!

DAY 76

I'll post some pictures of the things that I received from Amazon in these days (perhaps you've already seen the white and blue tumbler, because I've used it for a mocha!). 

By the way, I also received 4 pairs of heavy-thermal socks for the low temperatures that we'll face in the next weeks/months, then chamomile tea to drink before going to bed (it is one of my mom's tradition and I want to continue it even here, why not!) 

-- Stop a second, if you call me grandma, for these purchases, well ... this time I can not blame you! --

and a transparent cover for my iphone: it looks stiff and resistant, let's keep our fingers crossed!

Gary takes me to the pool, where I swim and meet an elderly gentleman, who complimented my swimming style (thanks dds--my swimming pool in Italy where I attended courses since I was about 6 years old!) and begins to tell me about his life and career (among other things, he has been a swimming instructor for 37 years). These unexpected meetings rejoice and diversify the days, as well as enrich them!

We start to watch the series "Quantico" and it seems to be very good!

GIORNO 73

Oggi non andiamo a scuola, ma sveglia alle 7: aiutiamo Ann e Gary per la preparazione della vendita di libri per raccolta fondi per un paio d'ore, poi andiamo a nuotare, a scuola per i colloqui genitori-professori e torniamo a casa per mangiare. 
Dopo pranzo guardo un episodio di Grey's Anatomy, provo a fare un test di medicina (mhmh, è ancora troppo difficile...) e poi bussano alla porta: sono arrivati i due pacchi che aspettavo tanto: quello dalla mia famiglia e l'iphone (che però ora non funziona perchè devo comprare una nano sim -- Briana mi porta nel negozio del mio operatore e mi tagliano la sim: ready to go!). Sono contenta!
Preparo la cena insieme a Barbara, e ci sono sia Briana che Will.
Poi guardiamo un film tutti insieme -- "Zoombieland"

DAY 73

Today we do not go to school, but weak up at 7: we help Ann and Gary for the preparation of the book sale for fundraising for a couple of hours, then we go to swim, to school for parent-teachers conference and get home to eat. 
After lunch I watch an episode of Grey's Anatomy, I try to do a test of medicine (mhmh, it is still too hard...) and then someone knocks on the door with the two packages that I've been waiting for so much: the one from my family and the iphone (but it does not work now because I have to buy a nano sim -- Briana takes me to Cricket's shop and they cut my sim so that it's ready to go!). I am happy!
I prepare dinner with Barbara, and both Briana and Will join us.
Then we watch a movie together - "Zoombieland"
