Sono sempre più felice quando c'è questo tipo di dolcezza nell'aria...

Durante Modern America, iniziamo la guerra del Vietnam in un modo insolito ma produttivo: ascoltanto canzoni il cui testo è significativo e indirizzato proprio all'argomento. La mia preferita è "Born in the USA" di Bruce Springsteen, perchè mi viene voglia di ballare e di andare con la mia mamma (se il papi permette) al concerto che farà a Milano a Luglio -- fra l'altro, il caso vuole che domani sera la tappa del tour sia proprio a Denver!!

During Modern America, we begin the Vietnam War in an unusual but productive way: we listen to songs whose lyrics is meaningful and addressed directly to the topic. My favorite is "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen, because it makes me want to dance and go with my mom (with daddy's permission) at the concert which he will give in Milan in July - among other things, it so happens that tomorrow night the tour stop is right in Denver!!

Pronta per gli allenamenti: oggi la prof di weight lifting è assente, e il supplente è proprio un personaggio: ci fa lavorare, ma ci fa anche molto ridere!
Ready for practice: today the weight lifting teacher is absent, and the sub is quite a character: he makes us workout, but he also makes us laugh a lot!

Gli allenamenti di tennis finiscono prima, perchè inizia a piovere, ma quando torno a casa gioco in camera con la pallina e mi sento molto infantile, ma mi diverto!
The tennis workouts finishes earlier, because it starts to rain, but when I get home, I play in my bedroom with the ball and I feel very childish, but I have fun!

Well, moving on...

Domani dovremmo giocare la nostra prima partita di tennis, ma in realtà questa volta spero venga cancellata: è prevista pioggia o neve, e sinceramente non ci tengo molto a passare 3 o 4 ore al gelo. Comunque sia, venerdì dovrebbe essere bello, e avremo un'altro torneo in casa, sfidando Loveland (rivale per eccellenza), quindi a questo punto preferirei aspettare: sarà sicuramente un pomeriggio eccitante!

D'altra parte, non ho in mano il controllo della situazione (come diceva la mia nonna, "Temp e cu al fa com'è vor lù!"), quindi staremo a vedere! Se però non giocassi, non dovrei uscire da scuola prima e non perderei la classe di weight lifting, che domani sarà super intensa e divertente, perchè cambieremo il workout, spostandoci in piscina per fare Aqua Zumba!!!

Tomorrow we should be playing our first tennis game, but actually, this time I hope it'll be cancelled: rain or snow is expected, and frankly I do not care much to spend 3 or 4 hours out in the cold. However, Friday should be nice, and we will have another home game, against Loveland (rival par excellence), so at this point I'd rather wait: that will definitely be an exciting afternoon!

On the other hand, I do not have the control of the situation, so we'll see! But if we don't play, I will not be released early from school and I'll not miss the weight lifting class, which tomorrow will be super intense and fun, because we will change the workout, moving into  the pool to do Aqua Zumba!!!

Dopo cena, non ho molto da fare, quindi vado a fare una camminata veloce di 5km: c'è una pioggerellina leggera, e continuo ad avere nella mia testa la voce del mio fratellone che mi dice "ma dove vai conciata così?!". In effetti ho su una tuta poco probabile e in testa una fascia che copre le orecchie, ma vediamola così: almeno questa volta non sono uscita col pigiama leopardato, se no sarei proprio stata "da arresto"!!

After dinner, I don't have much to do, so I go for a brisk 5k walk: there is a light drizzle, and I keep hearing my brother's voice in my head, who tells me, "Where do you think you are going dressed like that?!". In fact, I wear an unlikely pair of sweat pants and head band that covers my ears, but let's see it in another perspective: this time at least I did not go out with my leopard pajamas, otherwise I would have been way too bad!!

Prima cosa che faccio la mattina è impastare la focaccia.
The first thing I do in the morning is making the dough for focaccia (kind of flat bread).

 Poi, mentre lievita, vado a correre per 5km, e poi torno indietro camminando, concludendo una bella mattinata all'aria aperta.Then, while it's rising, I go running for a 5k and then I come back home walking. concluding a nice morning ijn the fresh air.

Mentre la focaccia cuoce, pereparo le cipolle che stenderò su metà della superficie.
While focaccia is cooking, I prepare the onions that I'll lay on half of the surface.

E per quanto possa voler bene alla mia famiglia Americana, non posso e non voglio dimenticare di avere una famiglia a Milano, che mi vuole tanto bene e che io amo più di ogni altra cosa al mondo. E' importante per me salutarvi in questo giorno di festa, e vedervi così contenti del vostro pranzo dal nonno e zii.

Ps. E messaggio anche con la mia sorellina pesciolino, che è via con la squadra di nuoto: che donna!!

And no matter how much I love my American family, I can not and don't want to forget I have a family in Milan, who loves me so much and whom I love more than anything else in the world. It is important for me to see you on this festive day, and seeing you so happy with about your lunch at grandpa and uncle's.

Ps. I also text my little-fish sister, who is away with the swim team: what a girl!!

Le lasagne sono fuori dal forno e il profumino è buonissimo: buon lavoro!

Iniziamo a manngiare? Sì, tutto è pronto e la fame non manca!
Should we start eating? Yes, everything is ready and there's not lack of hunger!

Cotolette: mentre friggo mi schizzo di olio e burro bollente, e uso due padelle per fare più veloce (preparo circa 30 cotolette) e, quando finisco, puzzo di trattoria: i miei vestiti hanno assorbito qualsiasi odore nell'aria, ma almeno il pollo è cotto bene e me ne accorgo quando vedo che Gary si infiltra in cucina per rubarne dei pezzetti, ancora prima che la cena sia iniziata!!

Cutlets: while I'm frying, boiling oil and butter splashes on me, and I use two pans to make it faster (I prepare about 30 cutlets), and when I finish, I stink like a trattoria: my clothes have absorbed any odor in the air, but at least the chicken is well cooked and I realize it when I see that Gary infiltrates into the kitchen to steal some pieces, even before dinner has begun!!

Dopo cena, vado a fare una passeggiata con Justin, e giochiamo a lanciarci addosso la neve con queste racchette. In questo modo, il coniglio pasquale ha la possibilità di entrare nel giardino e spargere le uova attorno alla casa senza che nessuno lo veda!

After dinner, I go for a walk with Justin, and we play to throw snow at each other with these rackets. In this way, the Easter bunny has the chance to enter the garden and scatter the eggs around the house without anyone seeing him!

Una Chiara che torna bambina, e prende la gara seriamente, cercando di trovare più uova possibile. Mi vergogno un po', ma mi sono divertita proprio tanto!
A Chiara who returns a child, and takes the race seriously, trying to find as many eggs as possible. I am a little ashamed, but I enjoyed it so much!

Poi mangiamo il tiramisu, ed Ann mi dice che è il migliore che abbia fatto finora (sono così contenta!), mentre Shane si mangia una fetta gigante e se ne porta a casa altrettanto. Diciamo pure che è stato un successo. Dopodichè, Briana, Shane e Justin vanno a casa, mentre noi rimaniamo a casa, e tutti sono così pieni che si addormentano sul divano mentre guardano il campionato di basket delle squadre dei college. Io nel frattempo scrivo il blog, perchè prevedo di essere troppo stanca stasera per raccontarvi tutto!

Aggiungo solo che, alla fine di questo stimolante weekend in cucina, sono grata ad Ann e Gary per avermi dato la possibilità di dar sfogo alla mia creatività e avermi dato così tanta soddisfazione oggi. Queste due giornate sono un ricordo che mi porterò con me per sempre, ne sono sicura!

Then we eat tiramisu, and Ann tells me that it's the best I've done so far (I'm so happy!), while Shane eats a giant slice and brings home quite a big piece as well. Let's just say it was a success. Then, Briana, Shane and Justin go home, while we remain at home, and everyone is so full that they fall asleep on the couch while watching the NCAA. In the meantime, I am writing the blog, because I plan to be too tired tonight to tell you everything!

I add only that, at the end of this stimulating weekend in the kitchen, I am grateful to Ann and Gary for giving me the opportunity to give vent to my creativity and for giving me so much satisfaction today. These two days are a memory that I will carry with me forever, I'm sure!

Stamattina ero così eccitata per la mia prima partita di tennis, ma mentre ero in classe ho aperto questa mail dal coach, che ci dice che è stata annullata a causa della neve. Che tristezza!
This morning, I was so excited for my first tennis match, but while I was in class, I open this email from the coach, who tells us that it was canceled due to the snow. How sad!

Oggi durante calculus mi devo proprio spremere le meningi per riuscire a risolvere questi problemi!
Today, during my calculus class, I really squeeze my brain to be able to solve these problems!

Ed è ancora neve. Colorado abbi pietà!
And it is snow again. Colorado have mercy!

Avendo l'ora buca all'ultima ora e non dovendomi fermare a scuola per tennis, scrivo ad Ann e le chiedo se vuole uscire per un caffè: lei accetta, così mi viene a prendere e ci passiamo una bella oretta a chiacchierare come mamma e figlia!

Having the last hour off and not having to stop at school for tennis, I text Ann and ask her if she wants to go out for a coffee: she accepts, so she picks me up and we spend a good hour or so chatting as mum and daughter!

Arrivando a casa molto presto, scrivo alla mia sorellina e facciamo FaceTime: ammetto di aver scattato molti screenshot mentre parlavamo, ma per correttezza non li posterò qui. 

Voglio solo dire che sei la migliore, che non vedo l'ora di stritolarti, e che sei bellissima.

Notizia del giorno: per la domenica di Pasqua, sarò io la chef di famiglia, e cucinerò per 8 invitati!!! Ho messo insieme questo menu, pieno di specialità Italiane particolarmente apprezzate dagli Americani (e da me, ovviamente!)
Non vedo già l'ora, teniamo solo le dita incrociate che tutto vada per il meglio e che la cucina non si trasformi in qualcosa come Hell's Kitchen di Gordon Ramsey!

News of the day: for Sunday Easter, I will be the family chef, and cook for 8 guests!!! I put together this menu, full of Italian specialties that are particularly appreciated by the Americans (and me, of course!).
I'm already looking forward to it, just keep our fingers crossed that everything goes well and that the kitchen does not turn into something like Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen!

Oggi è Saint Patrick, e prepariamo una cena tipica Americo - Irlandese, avendo Dave e Marie come ospiti (amici di Ann e Gary) e giocando in salone dopo mangiato. Auguri a tutti!

Today is Saint Patrick's Day, and we prepare a typical American - Irish dinner, having Dave and Marie as guests (Ann and Gary's friends) and playing in the living room after dinner. Happy Saint Patrick Day to you all!

Alle cinque del mattino suona il telefono: la scuola rimane chiusa per la neve!
At five am, the phone rings: school stays closed for the snow!

Colazione con calma: pane e marmellata, arancia, kiwi e caffè e latte. E' stato uno dei momenti più rilassati in questi giorni: sorseggiare il caffè di fronte ad un paesaggio così imbiancato non ha prezzo.
Leisurely breakfast: bread and jam, orange, kiwi and latte. It's been one of the most relaxed moment in these days: sipping my coffee in front of such a whitened landscape is priceless.

Ore 9: mi cambio, mi "attrezzo" per la neve e vado ad aiutare Gary a spalare la neve. Finito con lui, mi sposto da Dustin, e spaliamo insieme anche il suo driveway (è il minimo che potessi fare, data la sua gentilezza...). 

E' un'ora e mezza intensa, ma produttiva!

9 am: I change my clothes, I prepare for the snow and go to help Gary shoveling the snow. As soon as I'm done with him, I go to Dustin's, and we also shovel his driveway together (it's the least I could have done, given his kindness...)!

It is an intense but productive hour and a half!

Dopo pranzo, Ann, Barbara ed io andiamo a leggere in un bar a Berthoud. Inizialmente siamo bloccati nella neve che si è accumulata sulla strada immediatamente di fronte a casa, ma Gary ci soccorre, fa ripartire la macchina e, una volta che raggiungiamo la strada principale, siamo salve e raggiungiamo la destinazione. 

Ann,distratta perchè ci sta dicendo che una delle ultime volte in cui era in questo bar, il sole splendeva e faceva caldo, entra nella porta sbagliata, in un ufficio. Scoppiamo a ridere, e, divertite, ordiniamo la nostra mocha, mentre Barbara un Chai Tea. A proposito di Barbara, ci fa divertire anche lei, quando, mentre sta schiacciando la sua tazza di carta per far uscire il vapore, il tappo esplode e con esso il the! Good job!

After lunch, Ann, Barbara and I go to read in a cafe in Berthoud. Initially, we're stuck in the snow that has accumulated on the road immediately in front of the house, but Gary comes to our aid, restarts the car and, once we reach the main street, we are safe and reach the destination. 

Ann, distracted because she's telling us that one of the last times was in this cafe, the sun was shining and it was warm, enters the wrong door, in an office. We burst out laughing, and, amused, we order our mocha, while Barbara a Chai Tea. Speaking of Barbara, she is fun too, when, while crushing her paper cup to let the steam out, the lid explodes and with it the tea! Good job!

E ora, dopo settimane di attesa, posso annunciare ed iniziare il conto alla rovescia per la vacanza più eccitante che potessi ricevere: andare alle Hawaii!!

Parteciperò a questa vacanza organizzata per gli exchange students da questa associazione (qui il programma: http://explore-america.com/explorer/hawaii/index.html), dove fra l'altro incontrerò Matteo dal Vittorio Veneto (la nostra "amata" scuola) e Tirill, ragazza norvegese ospitata a Denver.

Mi sembra di vivere un sogno!!!

And now, after weeks of waiting, I can announce and start the countdown to the most exciting holiday that I could have been given: going to Hawaii!!

I will participate in this holiday organized for exchange students from this association (here is the program: http://explore-america.com/explorer/hawaii/index.html), where, among other things, I'll meet Matteo from my "beloved" school in Milan, and Tirill, Norwegian girl hosted in Denver. 

I seem to be living in a dream!!!

Cinque minuti pprima della fine della giornata a scuola, viene fatto un annuncio radiofonico, in cui si dice che tutte le attività sportive sono annullate a causa della neve fitta. Yuppy!
Five minutes before the end of the school day, a radio announcement is done, and it says that all the athletic practices are canceled because of the thick snow. Yuppy!

Queste sono le giornate in cui apprezzo particolarmente essere a casa, al calduccio, e guardare il paesaggio innevato fuori dalla finestra! Casa dolce casa...
These are the days in which I particularly appreciate being at home, with warmth and coziness, watching the snowy landscape outside the window! Home sweet home...

Oggi, durante l'ora di Anatomia, per concludere l'unità sull'occhio, partecipiamo ad un laboratorio sulle illusioni ottiche, visitando il sito www.michaelbach.de/ot. Quello che mi stupisce di più è questa, in cui devi trovare la faccia che si confonde con i chicchi di caffè. Mi ci sono voluti 5 minuti buoni, vediamo quanto ci metterete voi! Alla fine del post ci sarà la stessa foto con la soluzione da me cerchiata in rosso!
Today, during the Anatomy class, to conclude the unit on the eye, we participate in a lab on optical illusions, visiting the website www.michaelbach.de/ot. What amazes me the most is this illusion, where you have to find the face among the coffee beans. It took me a good 5 minutes, let's see how much time you will take! At the end of the post will put the same picture with the solution that I circled in red!

Andando da Starbucks con Mathew dopo la scuola, dove chiacchieriamo per quasi due ore: è un ragazzo molto informato e ci spiega come funziona la politica in America, le elezioni ecc.!
Going to Starbucks with Mathew after school, where we chat for almost two hours straight: he's a very knowledgeable guy and he explains us how politics works here in America, elections...!
