Day174

GIORNO 174
DAY 174

Tanta tanta neve, speriamo in uno snow day per domani (scuola chiusa causa neve)...
A lot of snow, we hope in a snow day for tomorrow...

School parking lot and street

Yuppy!
Five minutes before the end of the school day, a radio announcement is done, and it says that all the athletic practices are canceled because of the thick snow. Yuppy!

Casa dolce casa...
These are the days in which I particularly appreciate being at home, with warmth and coziness, watching the snowy landscape outside the window! Home sweet home...

Day154

GIORNO 154
DAY 154

I left my home on Aug. 12, 2015, and, it seems weird (at least to me), but today is January 12, 2016, and I've been here for exactly five months.
THANK YOU for your closeness, we are now at more than half of the adventure...

Studiando in biblioteca, su queste comode poltroncine, ogni tanto ci si abbiocca...
Studying in the library, on the comfy chairs, it happens sometimes to fall asleep...

Dinner with Gary, while Ann is at Briana's and Barbara is dancing

Dustin!!!

Today the Track & Field practice is indoor (yeah!), we are divided into groups (I choose the sprinters, who run 100, 200 and 400 m), we run for an hour and then we lift weights for the rest of the workout. The hardest things for me are:
1) Strides with reflections, in which you lie on the ground on your back and, when the coach yells "Go", you have to turn around and get up as quickly as possible and start running,
2) Weightlifting: I do not feel strong at all and I resist and complete the exercises only because we are in a group and I do not want to be the only one that does not finish, but believe me, I had to put myself to the test!!
I must say that I like Track hundred times more than cross country, because there are so many specialties that I can choose my favorite (100 m), instead of running continuously for 5k (I am able to endure so much just when I swim, since I love it, but running, thirty minutes, mhmhmhmh, it's for someone else...).
I'm very happy today!

Day33

GIORNO 33

DAY 33

This morning I Skype with Sara and Chiara, two of my classmates in high school back in Italy and BIG BIG FRIENDLY. I can only say thank you, and I'm looking forward to Skype with you again!!! P.S. Please, send me pictures sometimes!!
Then we go to walk (2 miles), to see the Loveland swimming pool and the library.
In the afternoon we go to the birthday party of Tanner, a boy from our school who is also the student council. I enjoy it and I know so many new kids!
After dinner we stay at home and watch a movie, "Easy to", that is fun.
We prepare breakfast and lunch for tomorrow and go to bed, as usual soon enough.

I improvised myself as a hairdresser and I did a braid to Barbara!

Day13

GIORNO 13

Gary mi ha persino mandato un messaggio: "Hey Muzio, we're here!". Ops!!
Grazie Ann e Gary!!

DAY 13

I have breakfast and there's a note from Ann on the table: she got home yesterday night and we'll see her after school!!
I get ready, check if I have everything I need (backpack, lunch, Cross Country bag) and go to school. The first thing I have to do this morning is going to the principal office, where I get a pass to get out of my class at 9 am and meet my school counselor: I have to change a course (Lifeguarding -- it's too demanding with Cross Country and I couldn't use the certification back in Italy because it's valid just in America). I choose drawing I and the first thing we've to do is draw our hand: my reproduction is not really faithful to reality, but I think: "At least I tried!".
Then I have all the other subjects and I'm happy with my choices because I can find something interesting in all of them!!
We start our practices at 3.30 pm: we run in groups today, and as soon as the coach doesn't see us anymore, we start walking and some of us even come into the river next to the running path. Ok, it's not really faith, but tomorrow we'll have the hardest practice of this week so we don't blame ourselves too much!
When we're done, I start talking with some boys in the team and I don't see Ann and Gary sitting in their car waiting for me. Gary even sends me a text: "Hey Muzio, we're here!". Ops!!
I have a quick shower and get ready: tonight we go out for dinner in an Italian restaurant with Will too. Gary tells us that tonight there's the family night: we'll have a family portion of the dish we choose and share it among us. And, considering  every portion here could be a family portion for me (they're huge!), I don't really know what to expect for tonight!!!
Oh my God I loved lasagne!
Thank you Ann and Gary!!

Chicken Milano? Davvero? Questa ve la siete proprio inventata!
Chicken Milano? Really? You really made this up!

Ann is putting the leftovers in a box that we'll bring home.

Day10

GIORNO 10

Come ho già detto, è speciale.

DAY 10

First official day of school.
Today it's an emotionally tough day: we meet all the teachers and some american boys and girls, we have lunch outside, we use the lockers for the first time, I do Cross Country and then... home sweet home, at 5.30 pm.
Ann has gone to visit her family, and she left me a postcard under the door to say "good luck": like I said, she's special.
I have to organize my room because it's really messy and everything is on the floor or on the bed, and I say to myself: "Oh no Chiara, it doesn't work like that!"

German room before the lesson. The teacher, who seem really nice, said that once a week he'll just speack in German. He also talked about himself and his life: he was part of the German Air Force, he came here, met his wife, they got married and he changed his profession from soldier to teacher and soccer coach!

Sometimes we cede, and it was the first time for me, during AP Calculus. I was scared because I thought that I couldn't understand anything of the printed problems, even if when I came home and I was more relaxed, I realized that they were absolutely feasible, so I was almost crying. It happens... Being an exchange student means also this: come out of the comfort zone and put our fragilities to test.

Day9

GIORNO 9

Ritorniamo in macchina e chiedo a Barbara se vuole dire grazie insieme a me, quindi 1, 2, 3 e in coro... <<Thank you!>>

DAY 9

The awakening is so sweet today: I Skype with Francesca, my sister, and Matteo, my brother: it's afternoon in Italy and they're eating an ice-cream. We talk about anything and I'm happy beacuse I'm not homesick but grateful for having such a beautiful family.
I have breakfast with Barbara and then we go to school, where 3 teachers explain the basic rules of the school and lead a tour between the classes.
Barbara and I ask for the Student Council (I think I'll join it) and for the Drama club (she is interested in it). We're also given the lockers and fortunately they're close to one another.
We go home, have lunch with some leftovers (we can choose whatever we want!) and then we go out for a walk in the neighborhood. Barbara and I are starting to bond and I love talking with her!
We come back, I rest for a hour and then go to the practice! Today I'll ride a bike to strengthen my legs: the coach told me that tomorrow it'll be a tough day!
We have tuna salad for dinner.
It's early, so Gary asks us if we want to do the shop with him and then have an ice cream to celebrate the beginning of the school (or the end of summer for them!): we accept of course! I get a chocolate ice cream dipped into cherry cream and I love it!
We come back in the car and I ask Barbara if she wants to say thanks with me, so 1, 2, 3 and together... <<Thank you!>>

Day7

GIORNO 7

  • English: è l'equivalente di italiano e letteratura italiana e, insieme a US history, è obbligatorio.
  • German: inizierò a studiare tedesco, finalmente!
  • US history

DAY 7

First of all: it's already been a week since I'm here, I'm surprised how time blows away!
Today is a kind of "school day": after the usual Cross Country practice in the morning (today it is really hard as we run for 2000, 1200 and 800 m each twice), I change my trainers, drink some water and go to the School Counselor office. Barbara chooses her subjects first and then, after about 45 minutes, it's my turn: the communication is easy and I get to have all the subjects I longed to.
Here are the subjects of my first semester, in this order:
  • Computer graphics: we'll learn how to use computer programs and I promise I'll put what I'll learn into practice here, in this blog!
  • English 11
  • Lifeguarding:when I'll be done, hopefully, I'll get the certificate!
  • AP Calculus AB: there was a little problem with this subject but we fixed it just with an email.
  • Period off: I think I'll spend it in the school library.
  • German: it's been my dream since I was a little child!
  •  Human Anatomy and Physiology: this should help me with my dream of becoming a surgeon.
I'm really happy!!!
Afterwards we look for our classes using a little map of the school. Tomorrow we'll be given the lockers and I'll feel even more like an American girl!
Then we come back home, have lunch and go out once again: we say hi to Justin and his family (they're preparing for their first day of school, too), Barbara as her physical for the dance team, we do the shop and buy materials for school and ingredients for pizza (I'll cook that tomorrow: cross your fingers!).
We come back home and we're quite tired, we have breakfast for dinner: it sounds weird but Ann and Gary call it like that, because it's actually made of eggs, bacon and waffles.
It's 9.30, good night everybody!
