Day259

GIORNO 259
DAY 259

Today is (probably) my last tennis match: I'm ready!

Bel programma, no?!

The team against which we play, comes with only three JV girls, so we take turns and play challenge matches against each other, not having enough
opponents.
While we wait to play, we freeze it, but we chat a lot and we decided to go out soon for a "ladies night" of shopping (new shoes for prom), nails (I would like to have french done, and it would be the first time for me, but I have to wait for approval of the overseas parents! ahaha), and dining out. Nice program, right?!

Sad face because I take a hot shower cause I still have the chills from the cold I absorbed today in the afternoon, and because, washing my hair, the beloved straight hair will go away!

Here is the essay I talked about, that I wrote in the English class at school. If you have comments or reactions, write me, I'd love that!

Milan is an amazing city, which enchants tourists, and loves its citizens. Life never stops there; everyone always seems to run right, left, and center, and chaos rules. But the truth is that nothing happens just randomly. Rather, everything is planned to fit the schedule and to be completed in a certain way. That’s what keeps Milanese busy, and yet proud to be born in this wonderful city of opportunities, challenges and dream realizations. An intricate net of relationships is built throughout life, and family bonds are the foundation on which the individual is shaped. Nothing pays more than a hug from a sibling or a smile from a parent, and everyone always keeps this in mind.
Now imagine being a seventeen year-old, and having to leave this cozy nest that spoiled you and took care of you since your first breath. I was afraid not to be able to handle it, to be crushed before even taking flight. But I did it. I woke up super early that morning of August 12, 2015. That now seems so far away, but that was just nine months ago, and I went to the airport. Every time I looked for some comfort in that sea of fear, I found it in my parents’ eyes, and I couldn’t help but cry when I left them at security. They were not allowed to come with me anymore from that point on. I had to stay focused, and keep track of my possessions, of where to go, and of what to do. But I eventually got to the gate and finally settled down, finding peace on my waiting seat and staring at the plane parked outside the window. It was in that exact moment that I realized I was alone: nobody would have led the way for me, and I had to take care of myself. But I was so ready to go.
My ability to be independent grew day after day: I absorbed the help of all the people who embraced me in their lives, and I made my best effort to show appreciation towards all the good they did for me. And now that the end of the school year is getting closer, I know I am all the stronger and richer, because I dealt with homesickness, and I overcame it. I doubted my abilities, and I developed them. I lived life in a new language, and I learned it. I met a new culture, and I appreciated it. Tears will wet my eyes when it comes time to leave this place that I now call home, but I am aware that I have so many good things to take back to Italy. I’m sure Milan is ready to welcome back a strong, young woman, with a lot to tell, and something to teach from Colorful Colorado.

-4 days to PROM 2016!

E il motto è... sleep all day, dance (hard) all night!

I feel more and more pumped for Saturday night: the prom is the party I've been waiting for since before leaving for the States, and perhaps I do not demonstrate it enough, but
I feel the luckiest girl in the world, because I'll go with the best boy in the world.
I will not disclose details about the program of the day, but I'm so excited that I think about it all day, every day!!!!
And the motto is... sleep all day, dance (hard) all night!

DAY 223

An aggressive Chiara wins the SAT vocabulary competition in the English class and wins her lollipop: good girl

Award for the most fun class of the day: German. Today we spend the 47 minutes class to sing this song, clapping our hands to the beat. It's called "Bache Bache Kuchen", and I can only suggest you devote one minute of your life to listen to it. If you do it, try to imagine the context: high school, Monday morning. That's all.

Studying in Starbucks and lost in my Calculus homework, these two cuties join me and... bye bye assignment!

In the afternoon, I go for a walk and run in the fields, since the sun is shining, there are about 70°F, and I need to blow off steam: it was a long Monday and I'm glad it's evening and it's ending!

  • English: è l'equivalente di italiano e letteratura italiana e, insieme a US history, è obbligatorio.
  • German: inizierò a studiare tedesco, finalmente!
  • US history

DAY 7

First of all: it's already been a week since I'm here, I'm surprised how time blows away!
Today is a kind of "school day": after the usual Cross Country practice in the morning (today it is really hard as we run for 2000, 1200 and 800 m each twice), I change my trainers, drink some water and go to the School Counselor office. Barbara chooses her subjects first and then, after about 45 minutes, it's my turn: the communication is easy and I get to have all the subjects I longed to.
Here are the subjects of my first semester, in this order:
  • Computer graphics: we'll learn how to use computer programs and I promise I'll put what I'll learn into practice here, in this blog!
  • English 11
  • Lifeguarding:when I'll be done, hopefully, I'll get the certificate!
  • AP Calculus AB: there was a little problem with this subject but we fixed it just with an email.
  • Period off: I think I'll spend it in the school library.
  • German: it's been my dream since I was a little child!
  •  Human Anatomy and Physiology: this should help me with my dream of becoming a surgeon.
I'm really happy!!!
Afterwards we look for our classes using a little map of the school. Tomorrow we'll be given the lockers and I'll feel even more like an American girl!
Then we come back home, have lunch and go out once again: we say hi to Justin and his family (they're preparing for their first day of school, too), Barbara as her physical for the dance team, we do the shop and buy materials for school and ingredients for pizza (I'll cook that tomorrow: cross your fingers!).
We come back home and we're quite tired, we have breakfast for dinner: it sounds weird but Ann and Gary call it like that, because it's actually made of eggs, bacon and waffles.
It's 9.30, good night everybody!
