Day10

GIORNO 10

Come ho già detto, è speciale.

DAY 10

First official day of school.
Today it's an emotionally tough day: we meet all the teachers and some american boys and girls, we have lunch outside, we use the lockers for the first time, I do Cross Country and then... home sweet home, at 5.30 pm.
Ann has gone to visit her family, and she left me a postcard under the door to say "good luck": like I said, she's special.
I have to organize my room because it's really messy and everything is on the floor or on the bed, and I say to myself: "Oh no Chiara, it doesn't work like that!"

German room before the lesson. The teacher, who seem really nice, said that once a week he'll just speack in German. He also talked about himself and his life: he was part of the German Air Force, he came here, met his wife, they got married and he changed his profession from soldier to teacher and soccer coach!

Sometimes we cede, and it was the first time for me, during AP Calculus. I was scared because I thought that I couldn't understand anything of the printed problems, even if when I came home and I was more relaxed, I realized that they were absolutely feasible, so I was almost crying. It happens... Being an exchange student means also this: come out of the comfort zone and put our fragilities to test.

Day4

GIORNO 4

DAY 4

This morning we wake up early as we'll go to the airport to welcome Barbara, the other exchange student from Belgium who will share this experience with me. Ann Marie, Gary, Susan (the Aspect coordinator) and I look at every single passenger looking for Barbara and we wonder who will see her first. We wait for an hour but she isn't there yet so we start to worry about her. We call her to her cell phone and just when Ann is sending her a message in her voicemail, Barbara shows up: she already has her suitcases with her and she tells us that she got lost in the airport while she was trying to find us. We are all more relaxed now, so we take some pictures and we go home.
After about an hour we go out again and we pay to create our own cell phone American number (in the cricket shop). It's quite expensive here (40$ per month), but we have 2 gb of internet, free texts and free calls in the States, so it's pretty good!
Then we go to the library (Ann has to check if everything is good with the sale of books for foundraising -- she is a volounteer here and she organizes this kind of activities too).
It's time to eat: we go to Noodle's and I have a "japanese style noodles" which I love!
Then we go into many shops, looking for "Back To School Sales": we just take a look but we don't buy anything because we have to wait until we actually know what subjects we're gonna study.
We also go to the grocery shop and Gary teaches us how to remove the peel from corns: it's really fun!!
We get home and we have free time until dinner, so I have a realaxing bath while I listen to my favourite songs and I think: "I could stay here forever!"
Gary prepares a typical American dinner with hamburgers cooked on barbecue. Will reaches us too and eats with us: we have a very good time all together!

Day1

GIORNO 1

Inizia l'avventura.

DAY 1

The adventure starts.
I get up at 6.30 am, have a wonderful Italian breakfast, get ready, say hi to my house, take some pictures with my siblings and suitcases and go to the airport. After some problems related to the size and weight of my luggages (they weighted too much), I got my tickets and go to the Metal Detector: It's time to say hallo to my family. After having hugged everyone and cryed a little (not because I'm sad, but because I've been pretty stressed out these days), I get away and get on the plane. The flight is full and I have a seat next to the window, so that I can look out during the trip. I get to Frankfurt and a hostess tells that the aircraft has some problems and that we have to wait until they can fix it. After three hours we get on the plane, which is really big (just to know, my seat is 54d!). We take off and the crew bring lunch, but I don't have it because I've already eaten a sandwich at the airport. I watch a couple of films, "Kingsman" and "The wolf of Wall Street", but I don't see the end of it because I get asleep. The flight is about 9 hours long and times goes by quite fast. I arrive in Denver, claim my suitcases and get to the exit: Ann Marie (my host mom), Gary (my host dad) and Justin (their grandson) are waiting for me with a big poster "welcome Chiara". I think: "I'm finally here!".
Then we go home and go to sleep. I'm happy. I turn off the light, it 10 pm, everything is good!
