Orgogliosa della mia mamma, che domani mattina si alzerà e si cimenterà nella preparazione delle mie brioches, una delle mie ricette preferite. Buona fortuna, voglio le foto!!

Ho avuto la fortuna di assistere a quella che per me è stata una vera "americanata" -- nel senso buono della parola, "esperienza tipica Americana": studentesse dello student council che presentano un discorso davanti a noi membri, presentando le ragioni per le quali dovrebbero essere elette presidentesse per l'anno prossimo!
I was lucky enough to witness what was a real "American thing" for me: Student Council students giving a speech in front of us members, presenting the reasons why ch they should be elected as presidents for next year!

What a delicious coffee I tasted this morning for breakfast: this friday starts well...

Nel pomeriggio, Ann mi porta da "Loveland Coffee Co.", un bar a Loveland che non avevamo ancora provato insieme. Oltre alla nostra mocha, che abbiamo ormai fatto diventare la nostra tradizione speciale, ci concediamo anche una lunga chiacchierata, di cui abbiamo entrambe  bisogno e che mi fa sentire cento volte meglio alla fine. Posso dire che con lei riesco a parlare e tirar fuori quello che sento, e mi sento fortunata ad averla al mio fianco.
In the afternoon, Ann brings me to "Loveland Coffee Co.", a coffee place in Loveland that we hadn't tried together yet. In addition to our mocha, that we have now made our special tradition, we concede ourselves a long talk, which we both need and that makes me feel a hundred times better in the end. I can say that I can talk with her and bring out what I feel, and I feel lucky to have her by my side.

Domani mattina partirò per un weekend con gli altri exchange student (è l'incontro di metà anno), per andare a Estes Park, località in montagna, dove spenderemo la notte. staremo in http://ymcarockies.org/lodging/ - che è un hotel di montagna che gestiremo noi, dividendoci in squadre e cucinando, pulendo, giocando ecc. (molto simile alle esperienze che ho avuto con la montagna con il Don, con il gruppo dell'oratorio). L'uso del cellulare sarà limitato, e sono contenta di questo, perchè avremo la possibilità di conoscerci meglio. Per questo motivo, domani sera non sarò in grado di scrivere il blog, ma lo farò domenica, quando il weekend si sarà concluso e avrò sicuramente tante cose da raccontare! 

Detto questo... che il divertimento abbia inizio!

Tomorrow morning I leave for a weekend with the other exchange students (the meeting is the mid-year orientation), to go to Estes Park, place in the mountains where we will spend the night. We will stay in http://ymcarockies.org/lodging/ - which is a kind of mountain hotel that we will manage, dividing into teams and cooking, cleaning, playing etc. (very similar to the experiences I already had with my church group back in Italy). Mobile phone use will be restricted, and I'm glad of this, because we will have the opportunity to get to know each other better. For this reason, tomorrow night I will not be able to write the blog, but I'll do it on Sunday, when the weekend will be over, and I will definitely have so much to tell you! 

That being said... let the fun begin!

Prima ora: buca (sarà così tutti i giovedì questo semestre). Mi andava di camminare e correre...
First period: off (it'll be like this every Thursday this semester). I was up for walking and running...

E per finire l'attività fisica giornaliera: 20 minuti di bicicletta! E' nel basement e possiamo usarla per diversi programmi: perdita di peso, bruciare grassi... A ritmo di musica, pedalare sembra quasi un piacere!
And, to complete this active day: 20 minutes of stationary bike! It's in the basement and we can use it with different programs: weight loss, burning fat... With the music, paddling almost seems nice!

Carmen, "presidentessa" dello Student Council", che scrive alla lavagna tutti gli eventi che prepareremo e a cui parteciperemo in questo semestre.

Ann e Gary sono andati a fare una gita in montagna e hanno usato le ciaspole. Hanno detto che è stato bellissimo! Purtroppo, tornando a casa, ha iniziato a nevicare e sono bloccati nel traffico: Barbara ed io siamo responsabili per la nostra cena, che sarà... mezzo bagel con philadelphia, più frutta e verdura!

Ann and Gary went snowshoeing. They said it was beautiful! Unfortunately, on the way home, it started snowing and they got stuck in the traffic: Barbara and I are therefore responsible for our dinner, which will be... half a bagel with philadelphia, plus fruit and vegetables!

Con lo Student Council, sono nel gruppo che organizza la Pep Assembly autunnale, e quindi dobbiamo progettare quali giochi proporre. Me ne vengono in mente un paio che avevo fatto in montagna col don e con i quali mi ero divertita molto:

With the Student Council, I'm in the group that organizes the next Pep Assembly, and so we have to plan what games to offer. I came up with a couple that I had done with my friends in the mountains (I remember we had lot of fun):


           1.    Fare un percorso complicato in coppia, trasportando uno spaghetto ai stuoi estremi, cercando di non spezzarlo. Se si rompe, si torna indietro e si ricomincia. La prima coppia a finire il percorso vince.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      
Make a complicated path in pairs, carrying a piece of hard spaghetti, trying not to break it. If it breaks, you go back and start again. The first couple to finish the course wins the game.

            2.   Mettere delle piccole caramelle in una vaschetta e ricoprire di panna montata. I giocatori devono trovare le caramelle il più in fretta possibile, immergendo la faccia (senza usare le mani)!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              
  Put small candies in a bowl and cover with whipped cream. Players must find the candies as quickly as possible by immersing their face in the bowl (hands free)!

GIORNO 44

Ieri sera, prima di andare a dormire, ho lavato la maglietta di cross country, perchè oggi, a scuola, ci dobbiamo vestire con qualcosa di giallo o oro (e questa è l'unica t-shirt gialla che ho qui). Non sapendo poi dove metterla per farla asciugare, la appendo alla lampada sopra il mio letto e, nonostante sia un po' inquietante dormire con una maglia che pende dal soffitto, si asciuga e in mattinata è pronta per essere indossata.
Per pranzo, Barbara ed io andiamo all'Asian Cafè: lei prende il menu con sushi, nighiri, insalata e zuppa, io soltanto sushi (con philadelphia, salmone e avocado) e ci piace tantissimo, torneremo sicuramente!
In contemporanea, mia mamma mi manda le foto della sua torta di compleanno! <3
Poi ho un allenamento facile di cross country, studio pere il test di Anatomia e Modern America che avrò domani e...

DAY 44

Last night, before going to sleep, I washed the cross country t-shirt, because today, at school, we have to wear gold (and this is the only yellow t-shirt that I have here). Then, not knowing where to put it to dry, I hang it on the lamp over my bed and, despite the fact that it's very weird sleeping with a t-shirt that hangs from the ceiling, at least it dries and in the morning it's ready to be worn.
For lunch, Barbara and I go to the Asian Cafe: she buys the menu with sushi, nighiri, salad and soup, I just have sushi (with Philadelphia, salmon e avocado) and we love it. We will definitely come be back!
At the same time, my mom sends me pictures of her birthday cake! <3
Then I have an easy cross country practice, I study for the Anatomy and Modern America tests that I will take tomorrow and ...

Day43

GIORNO 43

Oggi è una super giornata: nell'ora di disegno iniziamo la nuova unità, che riguarderà i ritratti, mentre durante lo Student Council parliamo della settimana dell'homecoming, che sarà piena di attività serali (cinema, kickball, volleyball, e... party!). Nell'ora di modern america, il prof ci fa leggere qualche articolo sullo sfruttamento minorile e ci distribuisce un gelato per ciascuno!!!
Nel pomeriggio vado in ospedale per un corso di formazione sulle regole da seguire, sul nostro ruolo di volontari e poi visitiamo la struttura. Mentre cammino per i corridoi, non mi sembra vero che il mio sogno più grande si stia realizzando, e ogni passo fra queste mura lo rende sempre più tangibile...
Poi mangiamo con Will e, dopo cena, leggo che il mio pacco di amazon è stato consegnato: Barbara è più eccitata di me (è curiosissima di vedere come sarà il vestito per l'homecoming), quindi corriamo fuori dalla porta e andiamo a prenderlo.
Appena arriviamo a casa, andiamo in camera mia e provo il vestito: mi piace tantissimo. Ha molti glitter, ma è completamente in tema con il tipo di festa, quindi non vedo l'ora di indossarlo!!!
Nel pacco ci sono anche le due "divide" per l'ospedale: una è fucsia, più allegra, l'altra è verde, stile Grey's anatomy (che fra l'altro, qui in US, inizia domani con la 12esima stagione!).

DAY 43

Today is a super day: in the drawing hour we start a new unit, which will cover the portraits, while during the Student Council we talk about the homecoming week, which will be full of evening activities (cinema, kickball, volleyball, and ... dance party!). In modern america hour, the teacher makes us read a few articles on child labor and he distributes ice cream to each one of us!!!
In the afternoon I go to the hospital for a training course on the rules to follow, on our role as volunteers and then we visit the facility. As I walk through the halls, it does not seem true to me that my biggest dream is becoming true, and every step between these walls makes it more tangible...
Then we eat with Will and, after dinner, I read that my package from amazon was delivered: Barbara is more excited than me (she's curious to see what my dress for homecoming looks like), so we run out of the door and go to pick it up .
As soon as we get home, we go into my room and I try the dress: I love it. It has many glitters, but it is completely in keeping with the type of party, so I'm looking forward to wearing it!!!
In the package, there are also the two scrubs clothes for the hospital: one is pink, more cheerful, the other one is green, Grey's Anatomy style (which, by the way, will begin tomorrow evening with the 12th season here in the US!) .

Day9

GIORNO 9

Il risveglio è dolcissimo: faccio Skype con Francesca, mia sorella, e Matteo, mio fratello: da loro è pomeriggio e stanno mangiando insieme il gelato. Parliamo di tutto e sono contenta perchè non sono nostalgica ma felice di avere una famiglia così bella per me.

Faccio colazione insieme a Barbara e poi andiamo a scuola, dove tre insegnanti ci spiegano le regole principali da seguire nell'edificio e ci fanno fare un tour tra le classi.

Barbara e io ci informiamo anche circa lo Student Council, che è una sorta di comitato studentesco che si riunisce per organizzare gli eventi a cui la scuola partecipa (come balli, raccolte fondi, vendite, decorazioni ecc.), e il club di teatro a cui è interessata Barbara. Ci vengono anche assegnati gli armadietti (proprio come nei film!), che sono proprio uno di fianco all'altro.

Torniamo a casa e mangiamo qualche avanzo (possiamo scegliere qualsiasi cosa vogliamo) e poi esco con Barbara per una passeggiata nel vicinato. Stiamo iniziando a legare e parlare con lei mi piace un sacco!

Torniamo indietro, mi riposo per un'oretta e poi via per un'altro allenamento! Oggi bicicletta per rafforzare i muscoli delle gambe in vista di domani, quando ci sarà l'allenamento più tosto della settimana (così ha detto il coach!).

Per cena insalata di tonno.
E' presto e Gary ci propone di andare a fare la spesa con lui e poi mangiare un gelato per celebrare l''inizio della scuola (o la fine dell'estate, per loro): accettiamo l'offerta! Io prendo un cono con cioccolato pucciato in una crema di ciliega che si solidifica a contatto con il gelato: mi piace molto!
Ritorniamo in macchina e chiedo a Barbara se vuole dire grazie insieme a me, quindi 1, 2, 3 e in coro... <<Thank you!>>

DAY 9

The awakening is so sweet today: I Skype with Francesca, my sister, and Matteo, my brother: it's afternoon in Italy and they're eating an ice-cream. We talk about anything and I'm happy beacuse I'm not homesick but grateful for having such a beautiful family.

I have breakfast with Barbara and then we go to school, where 3 teachers explain the basic rules of the school and lead a tour between the classes. 

Barbara and I ask for the Student Council (I think I'll join it) and for the Drama club (she is interested in it). We're also given the lockers and fortunately they're close to one another. 

We go home, have lunch with some leftovers (we can choose whatever we want!) and then we go out for a walk in the neighborhood. Barbara and I are starting to bond and I love talking with her!

We come back, I rest for a hour and then go to the practice! Today I'll ride a bike to strengthen my legs: the coach told me that tomorrow it'll be a tough day!

We have tuna salad for dinner.
It's early, so Gary asks us if we want to do the shop with him and then have an ice cream to celebrate the beginning of the school (or the end of summer for them!): we accept of course! I get a chocolate ice cream dipped into cherry cream and I love it!
We come back in the car and I ask Barbara if she wants to say thanks with me, so 1, 2, 3 and together... <<Thank you!>>
