Dopo cena andiamo da Starbucks, e ci sediamo all'aperto, leggendo i post del blog di giorni scelti a caso. Poi, quando stiamo per tornare a casa, ricordo ad Ann che Gary aveva chiesto di portargli una cioccolata calda, così lei torna dentro per ordinarla, e Barbara ed io restiamo in macchina. Ebbene, ad un certo punto Barbara prova ad aprire la portiera per buttare via il bicchiere, e la macchina inizia ad emettere luci abbaglianti accompagnate dal suono si una sirena. Tutti iniziano a guardarci ridendo, e Ann non ci viene in soccorso immediatamente, ma si gode qualche minuto di divertimento alle nostre spalle!

After dinner we go to Starbucks, and sit outdoors, reading the posts of randomly selected days from my blog. Then, when we're heading back home, I remind Ann that Gary had asked her to bring him a hot chocolate, so she goes back inside to order it, and Barbara and I remain in the car. Well, at some point Barbara tries to open the door to throw the cup away, and the machine starts to emit bright lights accompanied by the sound of a siren. They all begin to look at us, laughing, and Ann does not come to the rescue us immediately, but she enjoys a few minutes of making fun of us!

Pizza per il boss di casa: non è la migliore che io abbia fatto qui, perchè in casa non abbiamo il lievito giusto, e ne uso uno a lievitazione istantanea, che però non mantiene la promessa di far lievitare la pasta. Pazienza, spero solo di riuscire a farne "una delle mie" prima di domenica prossima!
Pizza for the house boss: it's not the best I've done here, because we do not have the right yeast at home, and I have to use an instant yeast, but it fails in making the dough rise. Never mind, I just hope to be able to make "one of mine" before next Sunday!

In mattinata faccio Skype con la family: mi diverto a ridere col mio fratellone, mi aggiorno e faccio programmi con la mia sorellina, vedo un papà salterellare nell'orto, e mi emoziono con la mia mamma.

Ora sono pronta per iniziare la giornata.

Aiuto Briana a pulire la casa da ieri sera (d'altra parte ho contribuito anche io a creare il "casino"!), poi andiamo a fare shopping all'Orchard Mall per un paio d'ore. Quando arriviamo a casa, ci aspetta una festa organizzata da Ann e Gary, alla quale partecipano tutte le belle persone che abbiamo incontrato nell'arco dell'anno.  Ecco alcune foto rubate a questi attimi di pura felicità:

In the morning I Skype with my family: I love to laugh with my big brother, and I update and make plans with my little sister, I see a jumping dad in the garden, and I feel strong emotions with my mom.

Now I'm ready to start the day.

I help Briana cleaning the house from last night (on the other hand, I have also contributed to create the mess!), then we go to the Orchard Shopping Mall for a couple of hours.

When we get home, we will have a party organized by Ann and Gary, where all the nice people we met during the year join us. Here are some photos stolen from these moments of pure joy:

Ci comprano la miglior torta di sempre: cheesecake classica con fragole. Oggi lo strappo alla regola era d'obbligo, ho ancora l'acquolina in bocca!!!

Non ho parole. Sapevo di essere stata fortunata a finire con Ann e Gary, ma oggi si sono confermati per l'ennesima volta. Grazie per tutto quello che fate costantemente per me, siete voi la ragione per cui tutto questo è possibile e non vi sarò mai abbastanza grata. Vi voglio bene, siete la mia famiglia, cosa a cui tengo più di ogni altra al mondo.

I have no words. I knew I was lucky to end up with Ann and Gary, but today they confirmed themselves for the umpteenth time. Thank you for all you do for me constantly, you're the reason why all this is possible and I will never be grateful enough. I love you, you are my family, what I care more than anything in the world.

Apro la porta della camera alle 6 e mezza della mattina, ed è con immensa gioia che vedo il sole entrare dalle finestre della sala ed illuminare le scale. Finalmente primavera, ora si che posso gridare: è maggio e si vede!

Quindi, mi preparo, e infilo nello zaino i vestiti da corsa: niente scuse oggi, con una giornata così si va a correre a gambe levate! Torno anche a casa camminando, e piego male la gamba su un sasso, vedendo le stelle e finendo la passeggiata con dolore. Ma va bene così, e sapete perchè? Stasera cucino io!

Poi faccio Skype con Beppe, dopo tanto tempo che non lo vedevo, e vado a nanna presto, pronta per un'altra bella giornata!

I open the door of my room at 6.30 in the morning, and it is with immense joy that I see the sun coming through the windows of the front room and illuminate the stairs. Dear spring, I can finally yell that it's May and we can see it!

So, I get ready, and I put workout clothes in the backpack: no excuses today, with a day like this, I have to run! I also get back at home walking, and I wrongly bend my leg on a rock, seeing the stars and ending the walk with pain. But that's okay, and you know why? Tonight I'm cooking!

Then I Skype with Beppe, after a long time without seeing him, and I go to bed early, ready for another beautiful day!

Ieri abbiamo anche avuto l'ultimo incontro con gli Exchange Students di Aspect: ecco i certificati ricevuti!
La fine è tristemente vicina, ma non troppo: amerò questo ultimo mese come nient'altro al mondo!!
Yesterday, we also had the last meeting with the Aspect Exchange Students: here are the certificates we received!
The end is sadly close, but not too much: I'll love this last month like nothing else in the world!!

Ann mi racconta anche di una notizia che ha sentito oggi alla televisione: una donna ha fatto causa a Starbucks, perchè i baristi riempiono più di metà dei bicchieri con ghiaccio al posto della bevanda per la quale si paga.

Qui in famiglia, abbiamo sempre aggirato il problema, chiedendo per il drink senza ghiaccio e aggiungendolo a casa, ma apparentemente non è proprio giusto che il cliente sia obbligato a far così. Date un occhiata all'articolo se avete tempo da perdere!

Ann also told me a story that she heard today on the tv news: a woman has sued Starbucks, because the baristas fill more than half the cups with ice instead of the actual drink for which you pay.

Here in this family, we have always worked around the problem by asking for the drink without ice and adding it at home, but apparently it's not really fair that the customer is obliged to do so.

Piccola (grande per me) soddisfazione della giornata: mio fratello che passa tutto il pomeriggio ad urlare per la casa "Chiara Muzio" e che dice a mia mamma che gli manco e che è ora che io torni.

In realtà io non voglio tornare, però un salto a casa lo farei volentieri, solo per saltare addosso a questo fratellone che non vedo da 9 mesi!

Small (big for me) satisfaction of the day: my brother, who spends all afternoon yelling around the house "Chiara Muzio" and telling my mom that he misses me and that it's time for me to come home.

Actually, I don't want to go back, but I would gladly swing by home, just to jump on this big brother that I haven't seen in nine months!

Prima cosa che faccio la mattina è impastare la focaccia.
The first thing I do in the morning is making the dough for focaccia (kind of flat bread).

 Poi, mentre lievita, vado a correre per 5km, e poi torno indietro camminando, concludendo una bella mattinata all'aria aperta.Then, while it's rising, I go running for a 5k and then I come back home walking. concluding a nice morning ijn the fresh air.

Mentre la focaccia cuoce, pereparo le cipolle che stenderò su metà della superficie.
While focaccia is cooking, I prepare the onions that I'll lay on half of the surface.

E per quanto possa voler bene alla mia famiglia Americana, non posso e non voglio dimenticare di avere una famiglia a Milano, che mi vuole tanto bene e che io amo più di ogni altra cosa al mondo. E' importante per me salutarvi in questo giorno di festa, e vedervi così contenti del vostro pranzo dal nonno e zii.

Ps. E messaggio anche con la mia sorellina pesciolino, che è via con la squadra di nuoto: che donna!!

And no matter how much I love my American family, I can not and don't want to forget I have a family in Milan, who loves me so much and whom I love more than anything else in the world. It is important for me to see you on this festive day, and seeing you so happy with about your lunch at grandpa and uncle's.

Ps. I also text my little-fish sister, who is away with the swim team: what a girl!!

Le lasagne sono fuori dal forno e il profumino è buonissimo: buon lavoro!

Iniziamo a manngiare? Sì, tutto è pronto e la fame non manca!
Should we start eating? Yes, everything is ready and there's not lack of hunger!

Cotolette: mentre friggo mi schizzo di olio e burro bollente, e uso due padelle per fare più veloce (preparo circa 30 cotolette) e, quando finisco, puzzo di trattoria: i miei vestiti hanno assorbito qualsiasi odore nell'aria, ma almeno il pollo è cotto bene e me ne accorgo quando vedo che Gary si infiltra in cucina per rubarne dei pezzetti, ancora prima che la cena sia iniziata!!

Cutlets: while I'm frying, boiling oil and butter splashes on me, and I use two pans to make it faster (I prepare about 30 cutlets), and when I finish, I stink like a trattoria: my clothes have absorbed any odor in the air, but at least the chicken is well cooked and I realize it when I see that Gary infiltrates into the kitchen to steal some pieces, even before dinner has begun!!

Dopo cena, vado a fare una passeggiata con Justin, e giochiamo a lanciarci addosso la neve con queste racchette. In questo modo, il coniglio pasquale ha la possibilità di entrare nel giardino e spargere le uova attorno alla casa senza che nessuno lo veda!

After dinner, I go for a walk with Justin, and we play to throw snow at each other with these rackets. In this way, the Easter bunny has the chance to enter the garden and scatter the eggs around the house without anyone seeing him!

Una Chiara che torna bambina, e prende la gara seriamente, cercando di trovare più uova possibile. Mi vergogno un po', ma mi sono divertita proprio tanto!
A Chiara who returns a child, and takes the race seriously, trying to find as many eggs as possible. I am a little ashamed, but I enjoyed it so much!

Poi mangiamo il tiramisu, ed Ann mi dice che è il migliore che abbia fatto finora (sono così contenta!), mentre Shane si mangia una fetta gigante e se ne porta a casa altrettanto. Diciamo pure che è stato un successo. Dopodichè, Briana, Shane e Justin vanno a casa, mentre noi rimaniamo a casa, e tutti sono così pieni che si addormentano sul divano mentre guardano il campionato di basket delle squadre dei college. Io nel frattempo scrivo il blog, perchè prevedo di essere troppo stanca stasera per raccontarvi tutto!

Aggiungo solo che, alla fine di questo stimolante weekend in cucina, sono grata ad Ann e Gary per avermi dato la possibilità di dar sfogo alla mia creatività e avermi dato così tanta soddisfazione oggi. Queste due giornate sono un ricordo che mi porterò con me per sempre, ne sono sicura!

Then we eat tiramisu, and Ann tells me that it's the best I've done so far (I'm so happy!), while Shane eats a giant slice and brings home quite a big piece as well. Let's just say it was a success. Then, Briana, Shane and Justin go home, while we remain at home, and everyone is so full that they fall asleep on the couch while watching the NCAA. In the meantime, I am writing the blog, because I plan to be too tired tonight to tell you everything!

I add only that, at the end of this stimulating weekend in the kitchen, I am grateful to Ann and Gary for giving me the opportunity to give vent to my creativity and for giving me so much satisfaction today. These two days are a memory that I will carry with me forever, I'm sure!

Mi ero dimenticata la foto del conto alla rovescia, quindi la aggiungo quando sono a letto, prima di andare a dormire... -5!!

Gary mi ha dato questa sua maglietta da mettere sopra i vestiti quando seziono il gatto, dato che ogni volta schizza da tutte le parti e non è molto piacevole... Grazie!!

Alla base si vedono Angelique e Monika, amiche e compagne di weight lifting. Siamo state insieme nello Student Council sin dall'inizio, ma ora stiamo legando e ogni giorno aspetto l'ora di sollevamento pesi per parlare con loro!
At the bottom, you can see Angelique and Monika, friends and weight lifting classmates. We've been together in the Student Council since the beginning, but now we're bonding and every day I look forward to the weight lifting hour to talk with them!

Prendo un appuntamento all'Apple Store: andrò con Ann domenica mattina, prima del super ball (partita importantissima per il football Americano, e in particolare per Denver, perchè giocano i Broncos).
Passeremo una mattinata insieme, noi due sole, e mi godrò questo tempo con lei prima della partenza per le Hawaii!
I take an appointment at the Apple Store: I'll go with Ann on Sunday morning, before the super ball (very important match for American football, and in particular for Denver, because the Broncos play).
We will spend a morning together, just the two of us, and I'm going to enjoy this time with her before leaving for Hawaii!

Cucino la carbonara per Ann e Gary, che stasera andranno a vedere una commedia a teatro, e poi per Barbara e me: essendo Barbara alla partita di basket per la performance di danza, e non volendola lasciar mangiare da sola, decido di preparare la pasta in due volte e cenare insieme a lei!

I cook pasta carbonara for Ann and Gary, who tonight will go to see a comedy at the theater, and then for Barbara and me: Barbara is at the basketball game for the dance performance, and I don't want her to eat alone, so I decided to prepare the pasta twice and have dinner with her!

Festa di compleanno per Elora: Cindy, la mamma di Shayne, ha organizzato tutto perfettamente. Abbiamo mangiato pizza per pranzo, giocato al gioco dei mimi, spento le candeline sopra una torta di gelato (che non ho mangiato perchè, uno dei miei obiettivi per l'anno nuovo, è quello di evitare i dolci, ma che sembra molto buona), bevuto un caffè alle nocciole (molto buono), e chiacchierato.
Birthday party for Elora: Cindy, Shayne's mother, organized everything perfectly. We ate pizza for lunch, played the game of mimes, blow out the candles on an ice cream cake (which I did not eat because one of my goals for the new year is to avoid sweets, but it looked very good) , drank coffee with hazelnut cream (very good), and chatted.

Nel tardo pomeriggio andiamo a correre: oggi 2 miglia (circa 3 km), di corsa alternata a camminata. Gary viene con noi, e Ann porta il cellulare, con il quale mappa il percorso e riproduce un po' di musica (facendomi ridere come una matta quando si mette a ballare una canzone che troveremmo in discoteca)!!!

In the late afternoon, we go running: today we do 2 miles (approximately 3 km), alternating run and walk. Gary comes with us, and Ann brings the phone, with which she maps the path and plays some music (making me laugh so much when she starts to dance a disco-type song)!!!

La nostra cena (più due uova): frullato di arance, banana, pere e mele. E' impressionante vedere come funzioni questa macchina, mi incanto ogni volta...
Our dinner (plus two eggs): smoothie with oranges, bananas, pears and apples. It's amazing to see how this machine works, I'm fascinated all the time..

Devo dire che mi è mancato tanto scrivere il blog, pubblicare foto e condividere con voi le mie giornate, ma, in questo modo, mi sono goduta a pieno questa ultima settimana, che è stata speciale e piena di emozioni. Inizia l'anno nuovo, e colgo l'occasione per fare i miei più sentiti auguri a tutti (e, se come me avete pensato a dei propositi per il 2016, non c'è altro da dire se non... perseguiamoli insieme!). Con tanto affetto, Chiara.

I must say that I missed so much to write the blog, post pictures and share my days with you, but, in this way, I fully enjoyed this last week, that was special and full of emotions. The new year has started, and I take the opportunity to extend my warmest wishes to all of you (and, if like me you thought of resolutions for this 2016, there is nothing else to say except... let's pursue them together! ). All my love, Chiara.

Dopo una camminata di mezz'oretta, Barbara e io arriviamo all'università di Boulder, dove è tutto fermo, a causa delle feste. E' però bello guardarsi in giro e vedere un ambiente che ricorda tanto alcuni edifici che popolano l'Europa. Troviamo un museo di storia naturale, dove beviamo anche uno strano thè caldo ai mirtilli. Direi che siamo soddisfatte!
After a half-hour walk, Barbara and I arrive at the CU campus in Boulder, where everything is quite, because of the holiday closure. But it is nice and fun to look around and see an environment that reminds me of some buildings that you can find throughout Europe. We find a natural history museum, where we drink a weird hot tea with blueberries. I would say that we are satisfied!

Il nostro pranzetto nel ristorante Italiano dove sono andata lunedì scorso (sembra un sacco di tempo fa!) con Maddalena: Barbara prende la pasta alla carbonara, mentre io la focaccia con zucchine, melanzane e peperoni grigliati, insalata e pomodori. Devo purtroppo avanzare un po' della focaccia, perchè è davvero una grande porzione, ma per il resto è molto buona.
Our lunch in the Italian restaurant where I went with Maddalena last Monday (it seems a long time ago!) : Barbara takes the pasta carbonara, while I take a focaccia with zucchini, eggplant and grilled peppers, tomatoes and salad. Unfortunately, I must leave a little of the bread, because it's really a big portion, but otherwise it's very good.

Ieri, insieme ad Ann e Barbara, abbiamo anche iniziato un programma per riiniziare a correre dopo le feste, che si chiama "Couch to 5k" -- tradotto, "Dal divano a 5km". Il nostro obiettivo sarà quello di partecipare a quante più manifestazioni sportive di 5 km possibile, e la prima potrebbe essere il giorno di San Valentino.

Yesterday, together with Ann and Barbara, we also started a program to re-start to run after the holidays, which is called "Couch to 5k". Our goal will be to participate in as many 5k runs as possible, and the first one may be on Valentine's Day.
