Dopo cena andiamo da Starbucks, e ci sediamo all'aperto, leggendo i post del blog di giorni scelti a caso. Poi, quando stiamo per tornare a casa, ricordo ad Ann che Gary aveva chiesto di portargli una cioccolata calda, così lei torna dentro per ordinarla, e Barbara ed io restiamo in macchina. Ebbene, ad un certo punto Barbara prova ad aprire la portiera per buttare via il bicchiere, e la macchina inizia ad emettere luci abbaglianti accompagnate dal suono si una sirena. Tutti iniziano a guardarci ridendo, e Ann non ci viene in soccorso immediatamente, ma si gode qualche minuto di divertimento alle nostre spalle!

After dinner we go to Starbucks, and sit outdoors, reading the posts of randomly selected days from my blog. Then, when we're heading back home, I remind Ann that Gary had asked her to bring him a hot chocolate, so she goes back inside to order it, and Barbara and I remain in the car. Well, at some point Barbara tries to open the door to throw the cup away, and the machine starts to emit bright lights accompanied by the sound of a siren. They all begin to look at us, laughing, and Ann does not come to the rescue us immediately, but she enjoys a few minutes of making fun of us!

Pizza per il boss di casa: non è la migliore che io abbia fatto qui, perchè in casa non abbiamo il lievito giusto, e ne uso uno a lievitazione istantanea, che però non mantiene la promessa di far lievitare la pasta. Pazienza, spero solo di riuscire a farne "una delle mie" prima di domenica prossima!
Pizza for the house boss: it's not the best I've done here, because we do not have the right yeast at home, and I have to use an instant yeast, but it fails in making the dough rise. Never mind, I just hope to be able to make "one of mine" before next Sunday!

Oggi è una giornata molto noiosa: a scuola non facciamo quasi niente, il che rende le ore molto lunghe, mentre dopo scuola vorrei camminare a casa, ma c'è troppo vento, quindi sto da Starbucks con Barbara per 4 ore (ci allontaniamo solo per andare a cena nel ristorante cinese di fianco).

Una volta a casa, guardiamo il film 21 con Will (uno dei migliori film che io abbia mai visto), e poi vado a dormire per le nove e mezza, sperando che domani porti qualche sorpresa più stimolante!!

Una curiosità: vado da Starbucks a pranzo, e ordino un Latte (parola che usiamo in italiano per "latte", ma che qui significa "caffè e latte"): ebbene, questo è esattamente quello che ricevo, in quanto si dimenticano di aggiungere l'espresso! Torno indietro e apprezzano il fatto che io non sia scortese quando chiedo loro di rifarlo per me, ma quello che conta è che alla fine ricevo il mio Latte, sorseggiandolo mentre torno indietro a piedi a scuola!!

Note del giorno: mio fratello va ad informarsi per la mia patente a Baggio - Milano (grazie Teo, sei un grande!!), mi arriva la seconda valigia che ho comprato per il mio ritorno a casa (dove metto tutte le cose accumulate in un anno?!!), ritrovo la collana con il ciondolo di cuore che ero convinta di aver perso circa 4 mesi fa, e vado a comprare gli ingredienti per cucinare una Sacher Torte domani, nell'ora di tedesco: è questo il pensiero che ho deciso di lasciare ai miei compagni prima di finire la scuola!!

Today is a very boring day: at school, we do almost nothing, which makes the hours very long, and after school I would walk home, but there is too much wind, so I'm at Starbucks with Barbara for 4 hours (we move away only to go to dinner in the Chinese restaurant next door).

Once home, we watch the movie 21 with Will (one of the best I've ever watched), and then I go to sleep at nine thirty, hoping that tomorrow will bring some more exciting surprise!!

Fun fact: I go to Starbucks at lunch, and I order a Latte (word that we use in Italian for "milk"): well, that's exactly what I get, since they forget to brew the espresso in it! I go back and they appreciate the fact that I'm not rude when I ask them to remake it for me, but what counts is that I eventually get my Latte, sipping it while walking back to school!!

Notes of the day: my brother goes to inquire for my driving license in Milan (thanks Teo, you are great!!), I get the second suitcase that I bought for my trip home (where will I put all the things accumulated in one year?!!), I find the necklace with the heart pendant that I was sure I had lost about four months ago, and I go buy the ingredients to cook a Sacher Torte tomorrow, in the German class: this is the thought that I decided to leave to my classmates before finishing school!!

Ok, forse la neve non è la prima cosa che uno vorebbe vedere fuori dalla finestra a metà aprile, ma questo albero e questi fiori rosa mi conquistano!
Ok, maybe the snow is not the first thing that you'd like to see out of the window in the middle of April, but this tree and the pink flowers conquered me!

Progetto d'arte con Barbara, guidato da Ann, maestra per eccellenza. Facciamo un decoupage, poi lo dipingiamo, sgrattiamo la vernice in eccesso, scriviamo e ritagliamo frasi, scegliamo decorazioni... insomma, ci teniamo occupate per 4 ore buone! Ecco i risultati:
Art project with Barbara, guided by Ann, exceptional teacher. We do a decoupage, then we paint it, scratch it, write and cut sentences, choose decoration... well, we keep ourselves busy for 4 good hours!

Sono MOLTO emozionata, e tremo un pochino, ma nello stesso tempo mi sento la ragazza più fortunata del mondo: non vedo l'ora!!!

He's holding a sign and white roses, asking me "Would you go to Prom with me?". Of course!!!

I am VERY moved, and I tremble a little, but, at the same time, I feel the luckiest girl in the world: I can't wait!!!

Durante l'ora buca, vado da Starbucks, ma questa volta sarete sorpresi di sentire che non sono andata per un caffè o una mocha, ma per un altro, bellissimo motivo: un barista che lavora lì e che ho conosciuto durante le mie eloquenti scampagnate da Starbucks, ha avuto una bambina a Novembre e mi ha chiesto se sono interessata a fare da babysitter. Ma sicuro! Mi porta a casa loro, dove conosco la moglie Ali e la bimba Maddyson. Ha gli occhioni azzurri e mi emoziono a tenerla in braccio! Sono una bellissima, giovane famiglia, e sono super contenta di creare questo legame con loro. Appena inizierò, ovviamente, vi racconterò tutto; per ora dico solo che mi sento fortunata, perchè questa è l'ennesima bella esperienza che farò in questo anno -- e, lo affermo con tutta la convinzione che ho dentro di me:

E' questo l'anno più bello della mia vita.

During the off hour, I go to Starbucks, but this time you will be surprised to hear that I did not go there for a coffee or mocha, but for another, beautiful reason: a barista who works there and who I met during my eloquent visits in Starbucks, had a baby in November and asked me if I was interested in babysitting. For sure! He drives me to their home, where I get to meet his wife Ali and their child Maddyson. She has blue eyes and I get excited to hold her! They are a beautiful, young family, and I'm super happy to create this bond with them. As soon as I begin, of course, will tell you everything; for now I just say that I feel so lucky, because this is another great experience that I will do this year -- and I say this with all the conviction I have inside me:

This is the best year of my life.

Oggi iniziamo il nuovo programma di tennis, divise in squadre: in questo modo abbiamo la possibilità di usare tutti i campi e giocare le nostre prime partite. Facciamo quello che è chiamato "challenge match", ovvero si giocano tante partite finchè uno dei due giocatori ne vince sei. Oggi vinco, e non nascondo di essere molto contenta di questo, ma la cosa più importante per me è aver sperimentato una vera partita, imparato a contare i punti, scambiare il campo quando necessario ecc.. E' stato davvero un bel pomeriggio!
Unica pecca, probabilmente mentre mi toglievo la felpa (c'erano 20 °C oggi!) ho perso la mia collana preferita, a forma di cuore...Today we begin the new tennis schedule, divided into teams: in this way, we can use all the fields and play the our first games. We play what is called a "challenge match", where we play until one player wins six games. Today I win, and I do not hide that I'm very happy about this, but the most important thing for me is having experienced a real game, learned to count the points, switched the courts when needed etc.. It was a really nice afternoon!
The only flaw is that, probably when I took off the sweatshirt (there were 70°F today!) I lost my favorite necklace, with a heart pendant...

Scatto questa foto solo per gli Americani, che collegano sempre gli italiani a questo gesto, e mi faceva ridere accostarlo agli appunti di anatomia (domani ho un test). In realtà non sono così in crisi da dover fare questo gesto, perchè l'argomento (sistema digerente) mi interessa molto, e risulta quindi più facile per me memorizzare, però guardare The Voice con Ann e Barbara è allettante!!
I take this pic just for the Americans, who always link Italians to this gesture, and thinking to connect it to my anatomy notes made me laugh (I have a test tomorrow). In reality, I am not in such a bad situation to make this gesture, because the topic (digestive system) interests me very much, and it is therefore easier for me to memorize, but watching The Voice with Ann and Barbara instead is tempting!!

Riesco a guardare tre aspiranti cantanti esibirsi, mentre ceniamo sul divano con questi bei vassoi. L'uomo di casa non c'è stasera, e così ci prendiamo questa libertà!
I can look at three aspiring singers perform, while we have dinner on the couch with these beautiful trays. The man of the house is not home tonight, so we take this liberty!

Lo Student Council ha annullato il ballo di sabato: avendo venduto soltanto 5 biglietti sino ad ora, Carmen ci ha fatto votare se volevamo organizzare il ballo comunque o se invece volevamo annullarlo (ha parlato di costi, e sforeremmo di tanto il budget, non avendo persone a sufficienza che comprino i biglietti). Io voto per tenere il ballo, ma insieme a pochi altri, quindi la decisione finale è che verrà cancellato. Mi dispiace tanto tanto, soprattutto perchè avevo chiesto a Matt e avevamo organizzato un piano bellissimo per la giornata: andare a vederlo giocare a baseball, cena insieme e poi ballo.
Ma poco male: ne parliamo e decidiamo che io andrò lo stesso alla sua partita, e che poi andremo al cinema e a prenderci un gelato.
Ecco perchè sorrido nella foto: non vedo l'ora di sabato!
The Student Council has canceled the dance on Saturday: having sold only 5 tickets so far, Carmen made us vote on whether we wanted to organize the dance anyway or whether we wanted to cancel it (she talked about costs, and we would spend too much, having not  enough people to buy tickets). I vote to keep the dance, but along with a few others, so the final decision is that it'll be canceled. I'm very sad, especially because I had asked Matt and we had organized a beautiful plan for the day: go see him playing baseball, dinner together and then dance.
But never mind: we talk about it and we decided that I will go to his game anyway, and then we'll go to the movies and to get ice cream.
That's why I smile in the photo: I'm looking forward to Saturday!

Avevo finito di scrivere il blog appena dopo cena, ma ora, prima di andare a letto, mi sento di aggiungere qualcosa di davvero importante: Ann, Gary ed io abbiamo chiacchierato per un'oretta in sala, sul divano, condividendo non solo parole, ma sguardi e sorrisi che mi faranno addormentare con il cuore pieno di dolcezza.

I had finished to write the blog just after dinner, but now, before going to bed, I feel like adding something really important: Ann, Gary and I talked for about an hour in the living room, on the couch, sharing not just words, but looks and smiles that will make me fall asleep with the heart full of sweetness.

Alle 10 del mattino, vado a vedere il film "La grande scommessa" con Will. Tratta la crisi del 2008, dal punto di vista di investitori che si arricchiscono prevedendo e scommettendo sulla caduta dei mercati. E' stato un film abbastanza difficile da seguire in inglese, per i termini specifici e i passaggi non sempre troppo chiari, ma molto interessante: lo riguarderei sicuramente!
At 10 am, I go to watch the movie "The big short" with Will. It's about the crisis of 2008, from the perspective of investors who get rich by betting on the fall of the markets. It's been a quite hard movie to follow in English, due to the specific terms, but it was very interesting: I would definitely watch it again!

Nel pomeriggio vado a correre nel vicinato (dove le strade sono "praticabili") e poi mi rilasso guardando questa nuova serie televisiva.
In the afternoon I go running in the neighborhood (where the streets are "viable") and then I relax watching this new tv series.

Ho iniziato a guardare sul mio pc la serie "Chicago Med", che è simile a Grey's Anatomy e che mi ha gia appassionata!I started on my pc the season "Chicago Med", which is similar to Grey's Anatomy and which I already love!

Giornata super super bella: vado in palestra con Will, che mi fa da personal trainer e mi segue in un sacco di esercizi (grazie grazie grazie!) e trascorro una bella mattinata insieme a lui.
Dopo pranzo andiamo a vedere l'operazione laser per la miopia di Briana: è la prima operazione chirugica che io abbia mai visto da così vicino e dal vivo! I muri della sala operatoria, infatti, sono lastre di vetro, perciò si vede tutto quello che accade all'interno (e ciò dimostra la sicurezza del chirurgo, che non ha nessun problema a condividere l'operazione con gli sguardi dei familiari). Grazie per avermi fatta partecipare!!
Poi vado a prendere un caffè con Ann, leggiamo e discutiamo. Inutile è dire che con lei mi trovo benissimo... Ci piace anche l'atmosfera all'interno di Starbucks, ora decorato per le feste, con tanto di albero di natale e fiocchi di neve che pendono dal soffitto.
Poi facciamo un po' di shopping e, appena entro in un negozio di scarpe, il mio sguardo viene rapito da un paio di stivaletti. Li provo, chiedo consiglio ad Ann, siamo entrambe entusiaste, quindi... li compro!!!
Tornate a casa cuciniamo insieme: treccia di pane armeno e patate con marshmallow (dolce tipico Americano per Thanksgiving). 
Per finire, guardiamo il film "Schegge di April" e poi nanna.
-Oggi si sono magicamente condensate tutte le cose che amo di più: sport, chirurgia, cucina, chiacchiere. Grazie di cuore.



Super super beautiful day: I go to the gym with Will, who is like my personal trainer for the day, and he follows me in lots of exercises (thank you thank you thank you!): I spend a very nice morning with him.
After lunch, we go to see the laser operation for Briana's myopia: it is the first surgical operation I have ever seen so close and while happening! The walls of the operating room, in fact, are sheets of glass, so you can see what happens inside (and this demonstrates the surgeon's confidence, who has no problem in sharing his job with the family looking). Thank you for making me participate!!
Then I go for a coffee with Ann, we read and discuss. Needless to say that I love spending time with her... We also like the atmosphere inside Starbucks, now decorated for the holidays, complete with a Christmas tree and snowflakes hanging from the ceiling.
Then we do some shopping and, as soon as we get into a shoe store, my eye is caught by a pair of boots. I try them on, I ask Ann's advice, we are both enthusiastic, so ... I buy them!!!
When we get home, we cook together: Armenian braided bread and potatoes with marshmallows (typical dessert for Thanksgiving).
Finally, we watch the movie "Pieces of April" and then sleep.
-Today, all the things I love the most were magically condensed : sports, surgery, food, chatting. Thank you so much.

Ieri sera mi sono addormentata con il sorriso: ho fatto Skype con Giuseppe (Beppe Beppino) per più di 1 ora ed è stata l'ora più bella della giornata! Parliamo davvero di tutto e quasi non riesco a smettere di ridere per le cose che ci raccontiamo!
GRAZIE Beppe, sei il più grande amico che ho e tengo un sacco a te!!!!
Poi questa mattina Skype con la mia family: inutile è dire che mi danno la carica per la giornata.
Nel pomeriggio andiamo a fare shopping (trovo un paio di jeans neri da Forever21) e poi andiamo a vedere mission impossible con Nanna e Maddalena, exchange student da Torino. Sono davvero fortunata ad essere nel tuo stesso gruppo di exchange, parlare con te mi piace in sacco e mi diverte!!!
Poi la nostra coordinatrice ci viene a prendere e ci porta a casa dei genitori di Shane (il marito di Brian, figlia di Ann e Gary) per il compleanno di Shane e suo papà. Mangiamo lì e ci divertiamo a chiacchierare e a vederli aprire i regali!

DAY 32

Last night I fell asleep with a huge smile: I had Skype with Giuseppe (Beppe Beppino) for more than one hour and it was the best end I could ask for the day! We talk about pretty much everything and I could hardly stop laughing for the things we told each other!
THANK YOU Beppe, you're the greatest friend I have and I care a lot about you!!!!
Then this morning I Skype with my family: you can take it for granted that they make my day better.
In the afternoon we go shopping (I find a pair of black jeans from Forever21) and then we go to the movie to see mission impossible with Nanna and Maddalena, an exchange student from Turin (Italy). I'm really lucky to be in her same exchange group, I like talking to her a lot!!!
Then our coordinator to takes us and leads us to Shane's parents' house (Shane is Briana's husband, and Briana is Ann and Gary's daughter) Shane and his dad's birthday. We have dinner there and we love talking and seeing them opening the presents!
