Ritrovo la giacca a scuola e la mia giornata inizia bene!!!

Poi mi diverto durante l'ora di modern America, durante la quale facciamo un progetto pratico che ci permette di chiacchierare durante la realizzazione: questi due personaggi mi spiegano, insieme al prof, le basi dello sci, chiamando lo spazzaneve "pizza", gli sci paralleli "patatine fritte" e le curve "spaghetti". È un modo divertente per imparare, e non vedo l'ora di mettere in pratica questi suggerimenti domani, quando scierò per la prima volta!!!

Then I have fun during Modern America, when we do a practical project that allows us to chat during the realization: these two boys I explain, together with the teacher, explain me the basics of skiing, calling "pizza" the snow plough, "french fries" the skis parallel, and "spaghetti" the curves. It's a fun way to learn, and I look forward to putting these tips into practice tomorrow when I'll ski for the first time!!!

Nel pomeriggio andiamo ad affittare gli sci per questo weekend lungo in montagna: non avevo scritto nulla perché volevo che fosse una sorpresa, ma ora è il momento di annunciarla: domani Barbara ed io partiremo con Dennis (signore con cui andava a sciare anche mio fratello), sua moglie e Viktoria, ragazza tedesca gemella di un exchange student amico di mio fratello, per andare a Breckenridge, dove dormiremo due notti e scieremo per tre giorni (andando anche a Vail). Cosa dire, non vedo l'ora!!!

In the afternoon, we go to rent skis for this long weekend in the mountains: I had not written anything here because I wanted it to be a surprise, but now it's time to announce it: tomorrow Barbara and I will go with Dennis, his wife and Viktoria, a German girl, to Breckenridge, where we will sleep for two nights and ski for three days (even going to Vail). What to say, I can not wait!!!

Per cena andiamo a mangiare in un ristorante italiano, con questa bella compagnia, per poi andare a casa, preparare tutto il necessario e riposarci bene prima della partenza di domani!

For dinner, we go to eat to an Italian restaurant, with this beautiful company, and then we go home, packing everything we need and resting well before tomorrow!

Dopo scuola vado a Starbucks, dove faccio FaceTime con la mia sorellina: durante questa mezz'ora si abbatte la lontananza e mi sento lì, in camera con lei, a parlare di tutto quello che ci piace.

After school I go to Starbucks, where I FaceTime with my little sister: during this half hour, we forget the distance that keeps us apart and I feel there, in our bedroom with her, talking about everything we want.

Se sei facilmente impressionabile, non leggere il blog di oggi: abbiamo rimosso la pelle ad un gatto morto nella classe di anatomia!

Durante l'allenamento di Track, mi ciulano la giaccia (fra l'altro quella a cui tengo di più): avevo messo tutto nella stanza del coach, insieme alle cose degli altri compagni, ma quando siamo rientrati dalla corsa non era più lì. Ho controllato dappertutto, e Ann mi ha aiutata, ma niente. Spero che qualcuno l'abbia presa per sbaglio e me la riporti domani...
During the Track practice someone took my coat (the one I care about the most): I put everything in the coach room, together with other teammates' stuff, but when we came back from the run it was no longer there. I checked everywhere, and Ann helped me, but nothing. I hope that someone took it by mistake and will bring it back tomorrow...

La cosa più interessante e, da un certo punto di vista inquietante, che facciamo oggi a scuola nell'ora di cucina, è una lezione sull'avvelenamento causato da cibo contaminati. Per rendere più tangibile questo pericolo, andiamo su internet per cercare i report che sono stati condotti sui fast food negli Stati Uniti: alcune delle storie che vengono raccontate fanno venire i brividi, e mi fanno dubitare si quando (e se) al comprerò di nuovo un hamburger da burger king, o un sandwich da Subway... 

Comunque sia, torno a casa da scuola con lo school bus, poi mi faccio un caffè e vado a farmi una lunga passeggiata/corsa, per 50 minuti: fuori c'è il sole che splende, e camminare e la cosa più bella che potessi scegliere di fare. 

Dopodiché, verso le 6 vado con Gary a Erie, dove Justin parteciperà al concerto della scuola. Sono molto contenta di essere andare ed aver visto la gioia nei suoi occhi non appena ha tirato su lo sguardo e visto il suo pubblico lì per lui. E, come gli dico sempre (seguendo la tradizione che aveva iniziato mio fratello)... Justin, sei il boss!

Mentre Gary va in aeroporto a prendere una coppia di amici che torna da un viaggio in California, io vado a casa con Ann, pronta per un'altra giornata!

The most interesting and, from a certain point of view disturbing thing that we do in school today is during the cooking hour, when the lesson is about the poisoning caused by contaminated food. To make this danger more tangible, we go on the internet to look for the inspections that have been conducted on fast food in the United States: some of the stories that we are told are awful, and make me doubt it when (and whether) I'll buy a burger from Burger King again, or a sandwich from Subway...

However, I come home from school with the school bus, then I make a coffee and I go for a long walk / running, for 50 minutes: the sun is shining out there, and this is the best thing I could have chosen to do.

Then, at about 6 pm I go to Erie with Gary, where Justin will participate in the school concert. I am very happy to be going and seeing the joy in his eyes as soon as he pulled up his eyes and saw his fans there for him. And, as I always say (following the tradition that my brother began)... Justin, you're the boss!

While Gary goes to the airport to pick up a couple of friends who come back from a trip to California, I go home with Ann, ready for another day!

Oggi è una giornata tranquilla: riprendo la scuola, pranzo con la squadra, vado all'allenamento di track and field (dove facciamo gli scatti e solleviamo pesi) e poi ceniamo con Justin. Mentre lui fa i compiti cerchiamo di aiutarlo, mentre dopo cena giochiamo a spararci con le sue pistole di plastica: ci divertiamo davvero tanto! Buona notte a tutti!

Today it's a quite day: I start school again, team lunch, go to the Track practice (we we do strides and lift weights) and then we have dinner with Justin. While he's doing his homeworks, we try to help him, and we then play to shoot against each other with his plastic guns: we have a great time and lots of fun! Good night to everyone!

Story of a wonderful weekend in the mountains

Si parte: siamo fortunatissimi perchè il tempo è bellissimo, fa freddo ma non troppo, e il sole splende!
Let's go: we're super lucky, because the weather is very nice, it's cold but not too much, and the sun shines!

Porto anche più del necessario...

Sono in macchina con Tina, la mia coordinatrice. Tra le altre cose, sono contenta di averla conosciuta meglio in questi due giorni: è una bella persona, super impegnata con i suoi tre lavori, ma allo stesso tempo dolce e sensibile. Complimenti!
I am in the car with Tina, my coordinator. Among other things, I'm happy to have got to know her better in these two days: she's a beautiful person, super busy with her three jobs, but sweet and sensitive at the same time. Congrats!

Foto degli interni ed esterni della nostra casetta: siamo divisi in camere per 2, 3, 6 persone ciascuna (io sono nella più grande!) e abbiamo un enorme spazio comune, con tavolate, cucina e salone!

Il primo gioco a cui partecipiamo è una caccia al tesoro: abbiamo una lista di indizi per trovare 10 oggetti, attrazioni o negozi nel caratteristico paese di Estes Park. Il colore di questo braccialetto indica la squadra alla quale apparteniamo: io sono con Alex, Ana e Ingvild, e la nostra "capa" è Susan. Siamo molto motivati a vincere, anche perchè Susan ci ha detto che la sua squadra non ha mai perso, ma... arriviamo secondi: speriamo di non averla delusa troppo!
P.s. E' stato molto divertente correre per la strada e scoprire aspetti che non avevo mai notato!
The first game in which we take part in is a Scavenger Hunt: we have a list of clues to find 10 objects, attractions or shops in the characteristic town of Estes Park. The color of this bracelet indicates the team to which we belong to: I am with Alex, Ana, and Ingvild, and our "boss" is Susan. We are very motivated to win, also because Susan told us that her team never lost, but... we are just second: let's hope not to have let her down too much!
P.s. It's been so fun running up and down the street and finding out aspects that I never noticed before!

A tutti voi: dovremmo vederci più spesso e passare qualche giornata insieme!

Nel pomeriggio andiamo ad arrampicare e poi in palestra a giocare a basket.

Dopo cena, sono nella squadra che ha il compito di sparecchiare, lavare i piatti e mettere a posto.

During the afternoon, we go indoor climbing and then playing basketball.

After dinner, I'm with the team which is in charge of cleaning up.

Dopo cena, andiamo all'Hotel Stanley, dove è stato girato il film "Shining" e dove partecipiamo ad un tour per le stanze dell'albergo, dove ci dovrebbero essere moltissimi spiriti e fantasmi...
After dinner, we go to the Hotel Sstanley, where the movie "Shining" was filmed and where we take part in a tour around the rooms in the hotel, where there are supposed to be many spirits and ghosts...

Questa la devo raccontare: Maddalena ed io siamo molto scettiche, e non crediamo a niente di quello che la guida ci racconta su fatti avvenuti nell'hotel. Mentre questa ci mostra foto di bambini-fantasma o gatti-fantasma, e ci racconta di persone che hanno scattato fotografie e in queste sono magicamense apparse persone che non erano visibili ad occhio nudo, Maddalena ed io iniziamo ad escogitare un piano per metterla alla prova. Decidiamo di fare una foto ad un comune divano e di modificarla, aggiungendo sfumature di bianco al centro, in modo tale che possa sembrare un fantasma. Una volta conclusa l'opera, mostriamo la foto modificata alla guida, fingendo di credere nella presenza di un fantasma e chiedendo il suo parere. La parte più esilarante è che la guida non solo conferma la presenza del fantasma nella foto, ma ci chiede di mandargliela via email, così che possa mostrarla nei suoi prossimi tour. Il resto del gruppo ci casca, e, mentre tutti sono scioccati dalla scoperta e si guardano attorno come se potessero essere attaccati da un momento all'altro, io racconto a Susan ciò che abbiamo appena fatto, e lei mi batte il cinque, molto divertita.

Well, I have to tell you this: Maddalena and I are very skeptical, and we don't believe in anything that the guide tells us about things that have appened in the hotel. While she shows us pics of children-ghosts or cats-ghosts, and she tells us about people who took pics and people who were not visible with naked eye magically appeared in the pics, Maddalena and I start thinking about a plan to put her to the test. We decide to take a pic of a normal couch and then modify it, adding white shades in the middle, so as to make them seem like a ghost. Once we conclude our masterpiece, we show the modified pic to the guide, pretending to believe in the presence of ghosts and asking for her point of view. The best part comes when she not only confirms that there's actually a ghost in the pic, but she asks us to send it to her vie email, so as to enable her to show it in her next tours. Everyone else in the group believes in our pic, and, while everyone is shocked and is looking around to protect themselves from a potential attack, I tell Susan everything we just did, and she gives me a high five, very amused.

Ho avuto la fortuna di assistere a quella che per me è stata una vera "americanata" -- nel senso buono della parola, "esperienza tipica Americana": studentesse dello student council che presentano un discorso davanti a noi membri, presentando le ragioni per le quali dovrebbero essere elette presidentesse per l'anno prossimo!
I was lucky enough to witness what was a real "American thing" for me: Student Council students giving a speech in front of us members, presenting the reasons why ch they should be elected as presidents for next year!

Che buon caffè che ho gustato questa mattina per colazione: il venerdì inizia bene...
What a delicious coffee I tasted this morning for breakfast: this friday starts well...

Nel pomeriggio, Ann mi porta da "Loveland Coffee Co.", un bar a Loveland che non avevamo ancora provato insieme. Oltre alla nostra mocha, che abbiamo ormai fatto diventare la nostra tradizione speciale, ci concediamo anche una lunga chiacchierata, di cui abbiamo entrambe  bisogno e che mi fa sentire cento volte meglio alla fine. Posso dire che con lei riesco a parlare e tirar fuori quello che sento, e mi sento fortunata ad averla al mio fianco.
In the afternoon, Ann brings me to "Loveland Coffee Co.", a coffee place in Loveland that we hadn't tried together yet. In addition to our mocha, that we have now made our special tradition, we concede ourselves a long talk, which we both need and that makes me feel a hundred times better in the end. I can say that I can talk with her and bring out what I feel, and I feel lucky to have her by my side.

Domani mattina partirò per un weekend con gli altri exchange student (è l'incontro di metà anno), per andare a Estes Park, località in montagna, dove spenderemo la notte. staremo in http://ymcarockies.org/lodging/ - che è un hotel di montagna che gestiremo noi, dividendoci in squadre e cucinando, pulendo, giocando ecc. (molto simile alle esperienze che ho avuto con la montagna con il Don, con il gruppo dell'oratorio). L'uso del cellulare sarà limitato, e sono contenta di questo, perchè avremo la possibilità di conoscerci meglio. Per questo motivo, domani sera non sarò in grado di scrivere il blog, ma lo farò domenica, quando il weekend si sarà concluso e avrò sicuramente tante cose da raccontare! 

Detto questo... che il divertimento abbia inizio!

Tomorrow morning I leave for a weekend with the other exchange students (the meeting is the mid-year orientation), to go to Estes Park, place in the mountains where we will spend the night. We will stay in http://ymcarockies.org/lodging/ - which is a kind of mountain hotel that we will manage, dividing into teams and cooking, cleaning, playing etc. (very similar to the experiences I already had with my church group back in Italy). Mobile phone use will be restricted, and I'm glad of this, because we will have the opportunity to get to know each other better. For this reason, tomorrow night I will not be able to write the blog, but I'll do it on Sunday, when the weekend will be over, and I will definitely have so much to tell you! 

That being said... let the fun begin!
