Day272

GIORNO 272
DAY 272

Chiarina ♥"

DOVE: Parco della Giretta, Settimo Milanese
QUANDO: Lunedì 30 Maggio 2016, ore 18:00 - 21:00

Americans, I'm not gonna translate this, because it's about my Italian reunion on the 30th of May in Milan, and I sadly know that nobody will be able to make it out there... This is just the picture I chose for the event!

Today is Monday of my last full week at school: in every class, I have to take a cumulative final exam, but then I will have about two weeks of free time to spend with friends and family, exploring places that I haven't seen yet in Colorful Colorado and, weather permitting, spending the days outdoors, perhaps taking a picnic or laying down on the grass reading and sunbathing. I know I'm lucky and I have done nothing to deserve all this, however, I live with the philosophy of "enjoy it while you can!".

Bella fortuna, Chiara!
I go home walking, and I have to laugh when it starts to rain: it was sunny all day, but I get the only half hour of rain of the day, as I walk while listening to music and bearing my backpack on my shoulders.
But there's more: after ten minutes that I'm at home, the sun comes out again and a rainbow apperars in the sky.
Beautiful luck, Chiara!

Dinner and book for the driving license, outside.
Then Barbara surprises me, asking me in Italian, reading from her cellphone: "Do you want to go for a walk?" Of course! We go out in pajamas and flip flops, but who cares? The sun still shines and we are carefree!!

Then we start dancing on the porch, with a very little sense of rhythm, but lots, lots of fun: these are memories that I'll keep forever!

When it starts getting colder outside, we come back in, and I watch The Voice on the tv, listening to some very good songs (the finale is approaching and the race becomes more competitive and interesting)!

Day263

GIORNO 263
DAY 263

Two pm nap , before starting the preparations. The day goes by slowly, because I keep thinking about the evening, but nothing begins before six, when Matt comes to take me.
In the morning, I Skype with my family, and I'm so upset that at one point I'm kinda rude to my mom and my siblings (I apologize again, I really didn't mean to). But then I talk a lot with my brother and I enjoy it a lot to listen to his fun stories!

Go sista!!

Ann takes me to Starbucks for a coffee and a little fresh air: her method to free her mind is to open the window, press the accelerator, and put your nose out of the window, while a burst of cold air wakes you up and hits you. It works!
Then Briana comes, my personal makeup artist and hairdresser: thank you for your patience (I never make-up nor take a particular care of my hair, so I know what a terrible "customer" I am), I could not ask for better, and I thank you for the time and fondness that you gave me! Go sista!!
In the pic: choice of bracelets, earrings and rings for dance!

Risultato? Resiste tutta la sera!). Ann ci scatta qualche foto a casa, e poi usciamo per andare all'Hotel, dove ci troviamo col grande gruppo.
Ecco alcune foto:

I take some pictures with heels, in the living room and on the stairs, and I think to myself: luckily for the evening, I will wear sandals, because when I'm on my heels, I look just like a circus performer, with very little sense of balance!
Matt comes to pick me up, and I'm super excited.
I put the corsage on his wrist: the flowers are white as my dress (and I love the smell), the bracelet is made of three strings of pearls, and in the center there is a light blue ribbon, matching his tie and in my favorite color!
Then I attach the boutonniere on his jacket (it's actually quite complicated, because I have to use a spill: the flower stem is hard and I have to put pressure, trying not to hurt the poor Matt. I ask for help from Ann, and we manage to attach it. Then, once in the car, the rose fells off the stem, and I feel just like a stupid. Matt is super nice, and he puts everything in place, sticking the flower in its stem and stopping it with a new pin. Result? It resists all night!).
Ann takes some pictures of us at home, and then we leave to go to the hotel, where we meet with the large group. Two of the girls are my friends, while for the boys, I only know Mike (Matt's twin brother), and Zac (Riley's brother). It takes very little, however, to get to know everyone else, and I must say that it is a wonderful group, and we have a great time all together -- see at the restaurant. All the parents are there, and we take a hundred pictures: I usually run away from the lens of the camera, but this evening is too big of a memory, and I do not want to miss any of it!
Here are some pics:

Ti voglio bene.
Riley and I taking a more relaxed picture, after all the "Red Carpet" ones. I love you.

Chang's. L'hai voluta tu, Joey!!
Grazie a tutti ragazzi!!

At the fancy Italian restaurant.
Katie, who works here, recommend the black fettuccine with lobster: I trust her and I order it; there's nothing to say, besides that this dish is mouth-watering.
But, apart from the good dish, the company is the highlight of the evening: Mitch and Joey entertain all the table, with jokes and a lot of sense of humor.
Firstly, they ask me to read virtually every single dish from the menu, and try to imitate the Italian pronunciation, so often laughing too soon and failing to complete the words. Then we launch a challenge to Mitch: we offer him two dollars each, to eat all the parmesan that's in the bowl on the table. While he tries in vain to accomplish the mission, he entertains us all and we give him the prize anyway.
Then, as soon as he gets his pizza, he put all the rest of the cheese on it, making it disgusting. So he asks the waiter for a box, to take leftover slices at home. Here Joey comes in the game, who, joking and confident of winning, challenges the waiter, telling him: "I'll give you a super good tip if you give me a box from the nearby restaurant". We all burst out laughing when we see the waiter taking an umbrella and heading out in the rain, coming back a few minutes later with a box from M.P. Chang's. You wanted it, Joey!!
Thank you all guys!!

Prom is a blast, and we dance until we can not anymore.
This has been my first American Prom, and, at the same time, my last dance in Colorado: I couldn't ask for anything better!

Baaaaaaam!

"After Prom" is the party to which we all go as soon as the dance is over. It's very well organized from the students's parents (to which we must say a big thank you): there is free food of any kind, soft drinks and coffee, and many, many games organized in different rooms. We do not try to ping pong and karaoke, but we get on the mechanical bull, unable to stay on it for more than thirty seconds, but managing to get some good bruises when we fall down, and then we spend the rest of the evening in the betting room.
We receive a package with fake money with which we can start to play: the first table we choose is to Pocker: Matt teaches me, and together we accumulate some money. Then it is the turn of Black Jack, where the dealer continues to get 21, making us lose almost everything we just won. We try the Roulette, always betting on the red, and then we join the Craps table (if you do not know what it is, look for the rules on the internet: it is very easy - I even have managed to learn it at 3 in the morning, then anyone can do it - and it is very funny).
Basically, you bet money and you roll two dices: if the sum gives a winning number, you get double the money you started with, otherwise you lose it and start again for another roll. But beware, there are special ways to win much, much more than twice the betting value, and Matt-Chiara team decides to risk: we put 10.000 on the box which compensates 30 to 1 (though the dices have to give two 1s or two 6s, so the chances are very low), so that would give us 300,000. I wear a sweater that I bought in Las Vegas, with the city's logo, so everyone asks me to roll the dice: wanting to entertain, I turn around and throw the dices from behind my back, keeping my eyes closed. I do not even have time to look, that I hear the screams of joy of all: both the dices show the number 6, and this means that everyone won, but Matt and I, in particular, we cleaned out!
With this money, Matt tries to go to the auction, where large prizes (this time real, not fake like the money with which we bet), are given to those who can afford them with the money they won by playing. Look carefully at the pictures to find out what this businessman bought! Baaaaaaam!

Una televisione!!!! Siamo una squadra fortissimi!!
A TV!!!! We are a super strong team!!

Cammino sulle nuvole!
Buona notte <3
I get back home at 4:30 in the morning, feeling the happiest girl in the world. I'm walking on clouds!
Good night <3
So sweet that it warms my heart.

A special thanks goes to my date, Matt: I could not ask to spend such a typical American night with a better guy. You are and will always be in my heart!

Day203

GIORNO 203
DAY 203

Today I will explain you how I invited a guy to the next school dance...

It all started last night, when I finally found the courage to invite Matt, a special friend that I met right at the beginning of the experience. In the first semester, we had the English and modern america classes together, and we are both in the Student council, while in this new semester we are in the same modern America class and we have the same off hour at the end of the day. We got to know each other more in these past months, and I have always enjoyed the moments we spent together, laughing and joking. It will be a beautiful evening, I already know!

"Of course I'll go with you!"
During the modern America class, we participate in a computer project (we are in the same group), and at some point I walk away from the lab, go back to class, open a side pocket of his backpack, and there I put the package I prepared for him. Then I go back to the computer as if nothing happened. When the hour is over, I do the anatomy test (which is very good - 75/60, getting the extra points - and I'm satisfied), and then I go to Starbucks, from where I send him this Snapchat.
His answer is... "Of course I'll go with you!"

Chiarina è molto molto contenta!!
Chiarina is very very happy!!

He asks me when the dance is exactly: next Saturday, March 12th!

He asked me what I'm gonna wear, and I think of a skirt that I also brought to Hawaii. I keep smiling, cause I'm really happy when I think of this new American experience!

Graaaaaaaazie Matt, mi hai fatto la giornata!!!
Thaaaaaank you Matt, you made my day!!!

Un po' di serietà: caffè e ripasso...
A bit of seriousness: coffee and rehearse...

For dinner, Gary prepares a delicious chicken breast, along with rice, quinoa and carrots, and we see Will again, after so many weeks. After dinner, Barbara and I take a long walk, during which we talk of all the good things that happened during the day. Then Ann gets home with Justin and Elora, who will sleep here tonight. Justin builds a paper table and asks me: "If I can finish it, I can be the boss?". Yes Justin, once I see the complete work, I really have to give you this: "Congratulations boss!!"

Day8

GIORNO 8

DAY 8

Tonight I sleep like a log: yesterday I was so tired that I couldn't even walk the stairs so, when I went to bed, I immediately felt asleep! This is the reason why when I wake up I'm lively and energetic, ready for a new practice (today it's a little softer, fortunately!).
When I come back home I have a shower, download an app which converses the American and Italian units of measure and then I prepare the dough for pizza. While I'm kneading, Ann takes pictures of me and tells me that next time she'd like to learn how to do it (I'm really happy for this!). I also take some pics as I want to see the before and after.
Now we go to school, where we have to pay fees and a pass that allows us to see all the sports events. Then we have to take the picture for our ID card: there's a kind of stall which seems like the ones we see in films, where photographers do their job and make sure you get what you want. I'm amazed!
We go through the school looking for our classes once again and we meet some teachers: the one who teaches German (he recognizes that I'm Matteo's sister, one of his favourite soccer players two years ago!) and the one who teaches Anatomy and Physiology (he seems really demanding but I'll make it, hopefully).
We have a sandwich for lunch. I also do my first laundry: it's almost fun as I don't need to hang out the laundry but just put the into the dryer next to the washing machine!
It's 3 pm (or, as Gary prefers, 2.59 -- he's kind of a living Swiss watch): I spread out the dough and cut the mozzarella, while Gary, Ann and Barbara go to Barbara's first dancing practice and to the library. I sit on the dining table and write the blog in absolute tranquility.
When Ann comes back, she gives me a book about complications in surgery, and she tells me that when she saw this she thought about me: now you can understand why I'm happy here, I have another mum with me!

Thanks Ann, love you!

Thank you Gary, you gave me so much satisfaction!
