...Il weekend è sinonimo di pulizia e ordine, e, quando tocca al letto, mi incanto per un attimo a guardare il bel letto dove tutte le notti ho la fortuna di addormentarmi: mi sento una principessa!

In mattinata, andiamo a vedere Justin ed Elora nuotare, poi usciamo per una lunga passeggiata, e poi Ann mi porta a vedere quest'altra casa modello. E' enorme e bellissima, ancora meglio di quella che abbiamo visto settimana scorsa. Fosse per me, mi ci trasferirei subito, senza pensarci nemmeno per un momento...
Quando poi la responsabile delle vendite, sentendo il mio accento, mi chiede da dove vengo e quando tornerò a casa, rispondo per educazione, ma mi devo subito allontanare, perchè le lacrime iniziano a scorrere: non voglio parlare di quel 27 maggio, giorno nero che avrà il potere di spegnere tutta la magia, e di strapparmi da questo posto che per me è casa. Ann mi abbraccia e conforta con belle parole, e mi riprendo velocemente, ma...

In the morning, we go to see Justin and Elora swimming, then we go out for a long walk, and then Ann takes me to see this other model home. It's huge and beautiful, even better than the one we saw last week. If it was for me, I would move here immediately, without thinking even for a moment...
 And when the sales woman, hearing my accent, asked me where I came from and when I'll go home, I answer for politeness, but I have to immediately go away because the tears begin to flow: I do not want to talk about that May 27, the dark day that will have the power to shut all the magic down, and take me away from this place that is home for me. Ann hugs me and comforts me with sweet words, and I quickly get it all together, but...

Ann ed io, invece di andare al cinema come da programma, andiamo a Boulder: la giornata è così bella che sarebbe un peccato spenderla in un cinema. Camminiamo verso l'università, e ci prendiamo la libertà di scattare questa foto in mezzo alla strada, non essendoci macchine e sentendoci libere!!

Ann and I, instead of going to the movies as we had planned, we go to Boulder: the day is so beautiful that it would be a pity to spend it in a movie theater. We walk to the university, and we take the liberty to take this photo in the street, since there are no cars and we feel free!!

Il campus universitario è bellissimo!!! Entriamo nel centro sportivo: enorme e pieno di qualsiasi tipo di campo, attrezzatura o attività. WOW.

A scuola facciamo una specie di "test attitudinale", e queste sono le tre parole che mi escono come risultato per descrivermi: diciamo che per essere solo un computer, ci ha azzeccato non poco...

At school we take a kind of "aptitude tests", and these are the three words that come to me as a result to describe me: let's say that, despite being just a computer, it did quite a good job...

Ann mi viene a prendere dopo scuola e andiamo a berci un caffè al bar caratteristico vicino alla scuola, "The Muse". Lei prende una mocha classica, mentre io prendo quella alla ciliegia: gliela faccio assaggiare, perchè penso davvero che sia una bomba, e lei sembra concordare pienamente, perchè mi dice entusiasta che la prossima volta che andrà lì ordinerà la stessa!
Ann picks me up after school and we go for a coffee at the unique bar next to the school, "The Muse". She takes a classic mocha, while I take the "cherry bon bon": I make her taste it, because I really think it's a bomb, and she seems to fully agree with me, because she tells me enthusiastically that she will order the same one the next time she goes there!

...E poi le insegno a fare i cantucci, i suoi biscotti preferiti. Lei prende nota di tutto quello che facciamo, e mi viene da sorridere quando mi dice che non ha mai usato la bilancia per misurare gli ingredienti: mi sembra di tornare all'inizio dell'anno, quando ero io che ho dovuto usare cups o tablespoons per la prima volta nella mia vita!
Un lieve senso di nostalgia mi attraversa, perchè le sto insegnando a fare qualcosa che tra due mesi non sarò più qui a fare, ma d'altra parte sono contenta, perchè mi ricorderà ogni volta che preparerà e mangerà queste delizie italiane; E' la miglior eredità che posso lasciare qui...

... And then I teach her how to make cantucci, her favorite biscotti. She takes note of everything we do, and it makes me smile when she tells me that she has never used the scale to measure ingredients before: I seem to go back to the beginning of the year, when I was the one who had to use cups or tablespoons for the first time in my life!
A slight sense of nostalgia passes through me, because I'm teaching her to do something that in two months I will not be here to do, but, on the other hand, I'm happy, because she'll remember me every time she prepares and eats these Italian treats; and this is the best legacy I can leave here...

Mentre i biscotti stanno cuocendo, ricevo una telefonata per FaceTime da un numero sconosciuto. Sono un po' turbata e incuriosita allo stesso tempo, così rispondo puntando la telecamera al soffitto: non voglio mostrare la mia faccia, ma voglio prima vedere di chi si tratta. Ed è con ESTREMA sorpresa che vedo il viso di Gaetano, che ha deciso di chiamarmi tanto per chiacchierare e aggiornarci. Mi dice anche che c'è un'altra sorpresa con lui, Federica! Che piacere ragazzi, mi mancate tanto, ma mi avete fatto la giornata oggi!!!

While biscotti are baking, I get a FaceTime call from an unknown number. I'm a bit disturbed and intrigued at the same time, so I answer by pointing the camera to the ceiling: I will not show my face, but I want to see who it is. And it is with EXTREME surprise that I see Gaetano's face, who decided to call me just to chat and update each others. He also said that there is another surprise with him, Federica! What a pleasure guys, I miss you so much, but you have made my day today!!!

Una volta a casa, guardo un episodio di Grey's Antomy con Ann, che oggi è particolarmente bello e intrigante, e poi scrivo il blog mentre Ann e Gary guardano House of Cards (che però io non seguo troppo, essendo il linguaggio politico complicato e non avendo mai seguito le stagioni precedenti!).

Poi vado a nanna perchè è venerdì e sono stanca:

mi sento di dire grazie a tutte le persone che ogni giorno rendono la mia vita Americana così bella e piena, che, fosse per me, non la lascerei più. Mi rimangono qualcosa come 70 giorni qui, e mi viene letteralmente da piangere a pensarci, ma cerco di guardare solo al lato positivo: sono una ragazza FORTUNATA, ho costruito una nuova vita qui, ho conosciuto persone stupende, e l'unica cosa che voglio fare ora è godere di tutto il bello che mi si presenterà, divertirmi ed essere spensierata.

Once home, I watch an episode of Grey's Anatomy with Ann, which today is especially good and intriguing, and then I write the blog while Ann and Gary watch House of Cards (that I do not follow, because of the complicated political terms and not having followed the previous seasons myself!).

Then I go to bed because it's Friday and I'm tired:

I would say thank you to all the people who make my American life so beautiful and full every day: if it was for me, I would never leave all this. I have something like 70 days left here, and I literally want to cry then I think about it, but I try to only look at the positive side: I am a LUCKY girl, I built a new life here, I met wonderful people, and the only thing I want to do now is to enjoy all the beauty that will be presented to me, have fun and be carefree.

Stamattina ero così eccitata per la mia prima partita di tennis, ma mentre ero in classe ho aperto questa mail dal coach, che ci dice che è stata annullata a causa della neve. Che tristezza!
This morning, I was so excited for my first tennis match, but while I was in class, I open this email from the coach, who tells us that it was canceled due to the snow. How sad!

Oggi durante calculus mi devo proprio spremere le meningi per riuscire a risolvere questi problemi!
Today, during my calculus class, I really squeeze my brain to be able to solve these problems!

Avendo l'ora buca all'ultima ora e non dovendomi fermare a scuola per tennis, scrivo ad Ann e le chiedo se vuole uscire per un caffè: lei accetta, così mi viene a prendere e ci passiamo una bella oretta a chiacchierare come mamma e figlia!

Having the last hour off and not having to stop at school for tennis, I text Ann and ask her if she wants to go out for a coffee: she accepts, so she picks me up and we spend a good hour or so chatting as mum and daughter!

Arrivando a casa molto presto, scrivo alla mia sorellina e facciamo FaceTime: ammetto di aver scattato molti screenshot mentre parlavamo, ma per correttezza non li posterò qui. 

Voglio solo dire che sei la migliore, che non vedo l'ora di stritolarti, e che sei bellissima.

Notizia del giorno: per la domenica di Pasqua, sarò io la chef di famiglia, e cucinerò per 8 invitati!!! Ho messo insieme questo menu, pieno di specialità Italiane particolarmente apprezzate dagli Americani (e da me, ovviamente!)
Non vedo già l'ora, teniamo solo le dita incrociate che tutto vada per il meglio e che la cucina non si trasformi in qualcosa come Hell's Kitchen di Gordon Ramsey!

News of the day: for Sunday Easter, I will be the family chef, and cook for 8 guests!!! I put together this menu, full of Italian specialties that are particularly appreciated by the Americans (and me, of course!).
I'm already looking forward to it, just keep our fingers crossed that everything goes well and that the kitchen does not turn into something like Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen!

Oggi è Saint Patrick, e prepariamo una cena tipica Americo - Irlandese, avendo Dave e Marie come ospiti (amici di Ann e Gary) e giocando in salone dopo mangiato. Auguri a tutti!

Today is Saint Patrick's Day, and we prepare a typical American - Irish dinner, having Dave and Marie as guests (Ann and Gary's friends) and playing in the living room after dinner. Happy Saint Patrick Day to you all!

Da quando è cambiata l'ora, la mattina, quando Dustin mi viene a prendere per andare a scuola, mi sveglio ed è ancora buio, ma ora che mi preparo ed esco, il sole sta appena sorgendo e mi godo questi colori che ora virano al rosa. Spettacolare.
Since the daylight saving change, in the morning, when Dustin comes to take me to school, I wake up and it is still dark, but by the time I prepare and go out, the sun is just rising and I enjoy these colors that now veer to pink. Spectacular.

Questo è il mio spazio, e ogni giorno racconto le cose che mi sono successe o che mi hanno reso felice. In questo caso si tratta di due persone speciali nella mia vita, che mi hanno letteralmente fatto la giornata con il loro messaggi, sorrisi, abbracci. La prima è Ann, la mamma migliore che potessi trovare dall'altra parte del mondo, che non appena si sveglia, trova i muffin che ho preparato ieri sera con la ricetta della mia nonna e con la mia glassa personale. Questo è il messaggio che ricevo mentre sono a scuola, e che mi fa prendere tutto col sorriso!

This is my space, and every day I tell you the things that happened to me and that made me happy. In this case these are two special people in my life who have literally made my day with their texts, smiles, hugs. The first one is Ann, the best mom I could find on the other side of the world, who, as soon as she wakes up, finds the muffins that I made last night with my grandmom's recipe and with my personal frosting. This is the text I get while I'm in school, and that makes me take it all with a smile!

La seconda persona è Kathy. Durante il pranzo non mangio neanche (lo farò nell'ora successiva), perchè cammino verso Starbucks: è per Kathy la torta che ho preparato ieri sera e che avevo annunciato sarebbe stata per una persona speciale. Domenica è stato il suo compleanno, ma non avevo trovato il tempo per preparargliela, così ho deciso di farla oggi e di scriverle un bigliettino dal profondo del cuore. Si è emozionata tantissimo, mi ha abbracciata forte, ed è stato questo un altro dei momenti unici che porterò sempre con me. Dopodichè ha condiviso la torta con tutti i colleghi e ha pubblicato questo post su Instagram. Sono proprio una ragazza fortunata per averla conosciuto!

The second person is Kathy. Over lunch, I do not even eat (I will in the next hour), because I walk to Starbucks: the cake that I made last night and that I had announced to be for someone special, is for Kathy. Sunday was her birthday, but I had not found the time to prepare it for her, so I decided to do it today and to write her a note from my heart. She was very moved, she hugged me tightly, and this was another of the unique moments that I will always carry with me. Then she shared the cake with all colleagues and published this post on Instagram. I'm just a lucky girl to have met her!

Oltre alla torta, ho preparato delle versioni più piccole (tipo muffin), che lascio, appunto, ad Ann e Gary, e porto a scuola ad Angelique (che mi dà una grandissima soddisfazione, perchè lo divora e mi dice cento volte che le piace tanto!!) e ad un altra persona, per la quale chiedo l'aiuto della prof di Inglese. E' divertente poter avere questo tipo di rapporto con i prof, quasi di amicizia, che in Italia mi sognerei...

In addition to the cake, I made the smaller versions (muffins kind), which I leave, in fact, to Ann and Gary, and that I bring to school to Angelique (which gives me a great satisfaction, because she eats it up and tells me a hundred times that she likes it a lot!!) and to another person, for whom I ask the help of the English teacher. It's fun to have this kind of relationship with the teachers, almost like friendship, which in Italy would just be impossible...

Il nostro prodotto. Ci dividiamo i ruoli, e io preparo la marmellata ai lamponi, proprio come facciamo a casa con la mia mami, in montagna. La prof di cucina la assaggia e se ne prende un bicchiere da portare a casa, giustificandosi dicendo: "It's seriously too good!". Mamma, lo sapevamo già che fosse buona? Beh, ora abbiamo una conferma!

Our product. We split the jobs, and I prepare the raspberry jam, just like we do at home with my mommy, in the mountains. The cooking teacher tastes it and takes a glass of it to take home, justifying herself by saying: "It's seriously too good!". Mom, did we already know that it was good? Well, we know have a confirmation!

E oggi per pranzo mi faccio una bella camminata, vado da Starbucks e mi prendo un Latte (caffè laffe) della dimensione più grande che hanno: drink gratis sfruttato bene e gustato fino all'ultimo sorso!
Today for lunch, I take a good walk, go to Starbucks and I take a Venti Latte (I usually take just a tall): free drink was exploited well and enjoyed 'til the last sip!

When in AP calculus...

L'allenamento di tennis oggi dura solo 15 minuti, a causa del vento troppo forte, così per il resto del tempo vado a vedere la partita di baseball con Angelique, Monika e Kelsey: fa così freddo che Angelique ed io ci arrotoliamo sotto la stessa coperta, di un rosa inconfondibile! Che bel pomeriggio!!!
The tennis practice today only lasts 15 minutes, because of the crazy wind, so for the rest of the time I go watch the baseball game with Angelique, Monika and Kelsey: it is so cold that Angelique and I roll up under the same, unmistakable pink blanket! I also talk to some fun boys around me and have fun: what a great afternoon!!!

Nell'ora di tedesco giochiamo con Kahoot, un programma dove vince chi risponde più velocemente alle domande. Difendo l'onore Italiano - ed Europeo - e vinco! La cosa che mi fa più ridere sono i commenti che l'app fa mentre aspetti il risultato, del tipo: "Trigger happy or true genius?" E penso tra me e me: "Italian Genius" come dice Gary!!
In the German class we play with Kahoot, a program where the player who responds quickly to the questions wins. I defend the Italian - and European - pride, and I win! The things that make me laugh the most are comments that the app gives you while waiting for the result, like "Trigger happy or true genius?" And I think to myself: "Italian Genius" as Gary says!!

Vado a comprare questi ingrediente: cioccolato per una torta per una persona speciale (sorpresa!) e mix per i muffin. Non ho mai provato a preparare i muffin con il mix, perchè ho sempre cucinato partendo da zero, però sono qui per una volta e devo provare!!
I go to buy these ingredients: chocolate for a cake for someone special (surprise!) and mix for muffins. I never tried to prepare the muffins with the mix, because I always cooked from scratch, but I am here for once and I have to try!!
