Quest'uomo si merita di essere nella prima foto di oggi: è l'insegnante-studente della classe di Modern America, ed è stato con noi sin dall'inizio di questo semestre. Mi sono sempre divertita, e con lui imparare non è mai stato un peso, ma oggi è stata probabilmente la lezione più interattiva e produttiva di sempre: lunedì avremo un test, così oggi abbiamo ripassato giocando a "Jeopardy" e cercando di fare canestro con questa palla di spugna. La nostra squadra, molto entusiasta e competitiva, ha vinto, e avremo così 3 punti extra nel test. Spero che riproponga questo gioco di nuovo, perchè, essendoci sfida nell'aria, tutti si sono impegnati di più e ascoltato le risposte con attenzione. Bella lì!

This man deserves to be in the first picture today: it is the student teacher in  Modern America, and has been with us since the beginning of this semester. I have always had fun, and with him learning has never been a burden, but today was probably the most interactive and productive lesson ever: Monday we will have a test, so today we rehearsed playing "Jeopardy" and trying to shoot the basket with this foam ball. Our team, very enthusiastic and competitive, won, and so we will have 3 extra points in the test. I hope we will redo this game again, because, thanks to the challenge in the air, we all committed more and listened to the answers carefully. Very good!

Dopo scuola, aspetto fuori dalla palestra per qualche minuto: Ann e Barbara mi vengono a prendere e andiamo a bere una mocha alla ciliegia. Barbara è tornata dalle Hawaii, e appena arrivano a scuola ci abbracciamo: ora siamo di nuovo al completo, ed è bello rivederla, ascoltare le sue storie, e sapere che si è divertita in vacanza!!!

Stiamo fino alla chiusura del bar, alle 3, e i baristi ci offrono un pezzetto di torta alla cannella fatta in casa molto sfiziosa. Bene, ora possiamo tornare a casa!

After school, I wait out of the gym for a few minutes: Barbara and Ann are picking me up and we'll go drink a cherry mocha. Barbara is back from Hawaii, and as soon as they get to school, we hug each other: the family is now back together, and it is good to see her, listen to her stories, and know that she enjoyed the vacation!!!

We stay until the closure of the bar, at 3 pm, and the bartenders offer us a piece of home-made cake with cinnamon which is very tasty. Well, now we can go home!

Cena cinese al Canton Palace: tutto buono! Siamo seduti allo stesso tavolo dove, due anni e mezzo fa, mio fratello, Solveig, Ann e Gary erano seduti, cenando per conoscersi nei primi giorni dell'aventura. Ebbene, noi dell'avventura abbiamo ancora soltanto poco più di due mesi, così Ann tira fuori un'agenda e ci chiede quali sono le cose che vorremmo fare prima di tornare a casa; alcune di queste sono: fare una camminata nelle Rocky Mountains, andare a Colorado Springs, andare a Las Vegas (sabato prossimo, per la pausa primaverile -- parliamo del programma e non vedo l'ora!!), fare un barbecue e dormire in giardino... Nel frattempo diventerò anche adulta!! Ci aspettano due mesi speciali!

Chinese dinner at the Canton Palace: all good! We are sitting at the same table where, two and half years ago, my brother, Solveig, Ann and Gary were sitting, having dinner to get to know each other in the early days of the adventure. Well, we only have just a little more than two months left of the adventure, so Ann pulls out an agenda and asks us what are the things we want to do before going back home; some of these are: a altitude hike in the Rocky Mountains, going to Colorado Springs, going to Las Vegas (next Saturday, for spring break - we talk about the program and can not wait for it!!), having a barbecue and sleeping in garden ... In the meantime, I'll also become an adult!! We have two special months ahead of us!

Pollo teriaki. Inutile dire che il riso manco lo tocco, e che metà del pollo rimane nel piatto. Ma ci tengo a sottolineare che è solo per le enormi quantità che ci vengono servite, non per la qualità, perchè il gusto è davvero buono, e lascio il ristorante con lo stomaco pieno e il sorriso sulle labbra!
Teriyaki chicken. Needless to say that I don't even touch the rice, and that half of the chicken is left in the plate. But I want to emphasize that this is only because of the huge amounts that I am served, not for the quality, because the taste is really good, and I leave the restaurant with a full stomach and a smile on my lips!

Camminata nel vicinato, mentre il sole tramonta, e il cielo, insolitamente nuvoloso, mi lascia senza fiato. Mi fermo a contemplare questo paradiso.
Walk in the neighborhood, while the sun sets and the sky, unusually cloudy, leaves me breathless. I stop to contemplate this paradise.

Sveglia alle 7.23 della mattina (con i numeri, sto imparando dal buon Gary...) e via, verso la parte sud di Denver, dove Will e Gary partecipano ad un torneo che dura tutto il giorno, con la squadra di pallavolo che allenano.
We wake up at 7:23 am (with the numbers, I am learning from Gary ...) and we head to the south of Denver, where Will and Gary take part in a tournament that lasts all day, with the volleyball team that coach.

Il rientro a scuola dopo una vacanza così, è davvero duro, ma sopravviviamo.Torniamo a casa con lo scuolabus, e Barbara riceve il suo pacco dal Belgio: è pieno di cibo, soprattutto cioccolato (specialità belga), e i suoi genitori sono così dolci che mettono un pacchetto di pasta apposta per me!Poi, per cena, Ann prepara uno stufato di pollo e Will mangia con noi. Dopo molte risate, vado a fare una passeggiata con Barbara e poi a dormire.

DAY 69

Going back to school after a holiday like this, it's really really hard, but we survived.We come back home with the school bus, and Barbara receives her package from Belgium: it is full of food, especially chocolate (Belgian specialty), and her parents are so sweet that they put a packet of pasta just for me!Then, for dinner, Ann prepares a chicken stew and Will eats with us. After laughing all together, I go for a walk with Barbara and then we sleep.

If only we still were in California...

Ann e Gary si ricordano che, in California, ci è piaciuto molto l'hummus (crema a base di ceci), e ne hanno comprato uno, preparando questo piattino di snack!

GIORNO 55

Oggi prendiamo lo school bus per la prima volta!
Barbara ed io studiamo un po' insieme e ci divertiamo a cantare canzoni in spagnolo mentre lei completa una scheda con parole come amigos, playa e bailar.
La aiuto a fare matematica per un'oretta e sono super contenta quando mi dice: "Grazie Chiara, ora che ho capito sembra quasi divertente"!
Per cena riscaldiamo lo stufato di pollo di ieri sera con Gary, mentre Ann è ad un incontro in biblioteca.

DAY 55

Today we take the school bus for the first time!
Barbara and I study a little together and we love to sing songs in Spanish while she is filling a spanish homework with words like amigos, playa and bailar.
I help her doing her math homework for about an hour, and I'm super happy when she tells me: "Thank you Chiara, now that I understood it almost seems funny"!
For dinner we heat up the chicken stew from yesterday evening with Gary, while Ann is a meeting in the library.

Day18

GIORNO 18

Oggi è un giorno "easy": mi sveglio, faccio colazione con molta calma (non con la fretta dei giorni di scuola, quando ogni minuto è prezioso) e mi godo ogni morso delle fette di pane con la marmellata di fragole. 
Poi arriva il momento: prime pulizie generali della camera: disfo il letto, scuoto i 4 cuscini (avere un letto un letto grande grande che sembra da principessa ha anche degli svantaggi: è grande il doppio e ci si mette più tempo a sistemarlo ma... ne vale assolutamente la pena!). 
Preparo tutti i vestiti che devo lavare e li metto nella lavatrice: tralasciando il fatto che dimentico di metterci anche gli asciugamani e che quindi devo interrompere e ricominciare dopo mezz'ora di lavaggio, alla fine tutto ha un profumo di bucato che mi rende felice di prima mattina!
Per pranzo mangiamo il pollo di ieri sera (lo mangia anche Barbara, che ieri non lo aveva assaggiato perchè era alla partita con le cheerleader, e le piace!) con insalata e yogurt. 
Nel pomeriggio Ann e Gary escono per fare spese ecc. mentre Barbara ed io facciamo i nostri primi acquisti su Amazon e ci divertiamo a scorrere i tanti prodotti disponibili! Poi facciamo qualche compito, doccia, ci rilassiamo e cena.
Mangiamo pasta al pesto (mi mancava la mia amata pasta!!), frutta e verdura e poi usciamo per una passeggiata in un quartiere: non è ancora buio pesto ma il sole è tramontato e la luce particolare è davvero suggestiva. Camminiamo 45 min e parte del percorso è in un campo da golf (dove è proibito entrare)! 
La fortuna vuole che questo vicinato sia proprio vicino alla casa del gelato, quindi ci fermiamo e questa volta prendo gelato al cioccolato con fragole: ancora meeglio della scorsa settimana!!
Grazie famiglia, mi regalate sempre momenti bellissimi insieme!

DAY 18

Today is an "easy" day: I wake up, have breakfast calmly (not with the rush of school days, when every minute is precious) and I enjoy every bite of the slices of bread with strawberry jam.
Then it's the moment: undo the bed, shake the four pillows (having a huge bed that looks like a princess bed also has some disadvantages: it is twice the size and it takes more time to set it but... it is absolutely worth it!).
I prepare all the clothes I have to wash and put them in the washing machine: despite the fact that I forget to put the towels and so I have to stop the machine and start it again after about half an hour of wash, in the end everything has a clean and fresh perfume that makes me happy early in the morning!
For lunch we eat the chicken leftovers from last night (Barbara also eats it --yesterday she had not tried it because she was at the football game with the cheerleaders -- and she likes it!), plus salad and yogurt.
In the afternoon, Ann and Gary go out for shopping etc. while Barbara and I make our first purchase on Amazon and we love to look at the many products available! Then do some homework, have a shower, relax and have dinner.
We eat pasta with pesto (I missed my lovely pasta!!), fruits and vegetables and then we go out for a walk in a pretty neighborhood near in Loveland: it isn't pitch dark yet but there's already been the sunset and the special light all around is really impressive. We walk for about 45 minutes and part of it is on a golf field (where we're not allowed to be)!
We're lucky because this neighborhood coincidentally happens to be near the ice cream house, so we stop by and this time I eat a chocolate ice-cream with strawberries: it's even better than last week!!
