Dopo tanto lavoro ho guadagnato il mio drink gratis da Starbucks, che molto probabilmente userò domani dopo scuola!
After much work, I earned my free drink at Starbucks, that I'll most likely redeem tomorrow after school!

Appuntamento con la mia counselor che si protrae per più di un'ora. Mi sto informando sull'università negli Stati Uniti, per capire come funziona (in particolare la facoltà di Medicina): sarebbe un sogno poter vivere e studiare qui, ma per ora devo tenere  i piedi per terra...
The appointment with my counselor today lasts for more than an hour. I'm informing myself about college in the United States, to understand how it works (in particular the Medical School, which I want to attend): it would be a dream to live and study here, but for now I have to keep my feet on the ground...

Questa mattina dovevamo andare a Denver per incontrare Alex, il marito di Andrea (host sister), ma parte in anticipo e così non facciamo in tempo ad incontrarlo. Peccato.

This morning, we had to go to Denver to meet Alex, Andrea's ( host sister) husband, but he leaves earlier and so we don't have the chance to meet him. That's a pity.

The Dream Team leaves towards the lake for a 3.5 miles walk! We have everything we need: sun, happiness and strength!

Three women, three coffees, outdoors couch and chats. What's better than this...

Sulla via di casa ci fermiamo per visitare queste "case modello": le aziende immobiliari costruiscono e allestiscono queste case perchè possano essere visitate da chiunque fosse interessato a comprare casa, o semplicemente curiosare (come me!). La casa è grandissima e bellissima, vorrei vivere in una casa come questa un giorno...
On the way home, we stop to visit these "model homes": estate companies build and set up these homes so that they can be visited by anyone interested in buying a house, or simply browsing (like me!). The house is super huge and super pretty, I wish I lived in a house like this there someday...

Andiamo anche a visitare un ranch, e sono molto esaltata perchè penso si tratti di un vero ranch (tipo fattoria, come quelli che si vedono nei film), ma imparo che in America "ranch" è anche un tipo di casa, ad un solo livello invece che a più piani.

Che poi, dove volevo andarlo a trovare un ranch in Colorado, sulla cima delle Montagne Rocciose?! Ragiona, Chiara!

We also go to visit a ranch, and I'm very excited because I think it is a real ranch (kind of like a farm, like the ones you see in the movies), but I learn that in America "ranch" is also a kind of house, on one level rather than many stories.

And also, where did I want to go and find a ranch in Colorado, on top of the Rocky Mountains?! Think, Chiara!

Dopo pranzo torno all'amica bicicletta e le dedico mezz'ora della mia vita. Solo la musica mi fa continuare a pedalare, altrimenti andrei volentieri a farmi un pisolo!
After lunch, I go back to my friend bike and dedicate a half hour of my life. Only the music makes me keep paddling, otherwise I would willingly give myself a nap!

Per cena, andiamo a casa di amici e facciamo un barbecue all'aperto, grigliando... la pizza. E' un esperimento che non sono sicura ripeterei, ma almeno ho provato...

Quando siamo di nuovo a casa, vado a fare una passeggiata, ascoltando la musica e pensando tanto, poi sono pronta per affogare nel letto e in un mare di sogni. Buona notte!

For dinner, we go to some friends' house and we barbecue... pizza. It's an experiment that I'm not sure I would repeat, but at least I tried it...

When we're back home, I go for a walk, listening to music and thinking a lot, then I am ready to drown in the bed and in a sea of dreams. Good night!

Questa mattina è particolarmente doloroso per me svegliarmi ed andare a correre, soprattutto perchè ho molto sonno e fuori fa freschino (molto diverso da ieri). Comunque sia, da qualche parte dentro di me trovo la motivazione ed esco di casa, tornando dopo una mezz'oretta. Almeno non ci penso più per il resto della giornata...
This morning it is particularly painful for me to wake up and go for a run, especially because I am very sleepy and it's chilly outside (very different from yesterday). However, somewhere inside me I find the motivation and I leave the house, coming back after about half an hour. At least I do not think about it for the rest of the day...

Come avevo anticipato ieri, in mattinata Gary mi fa da istruttore privato: mi fa vedere un video che spiega come servire la palla a tennis, e poi mi porta al campo per esercitarmi. Uso il suo cesto da 60 palle, e le lancio tutte le due volte. Lui mi dà tanti consigli e mi incoraggia, e verso la fine vedo che la percentuale di palle che vanno a finire nel punto giusto cresce un po'!

Grazie grazie grazie, questi sono tutti ricordi che porterò sempre con me!!

As I mentioned yesterday, this morning Gary acts as my private instructor: he shows me a video that explains how to serve the ball in tennis, and he then brings me to the courts to practice. I use his basket with 60 balls, and I serve them all twice. He gives me lots of advice and encourages me, and towards the end I see that the percentage of balls that end up in the right spot increases a little bit!

Thank you thank you thank you, these are all memories that I will always bring with me!!

Dopo pranzo, vado alla partita di Baseball: non è che capisco proprio tutto, ma è uno sport che mi piace molto (non è aggressivo per niente, ma c'è aria di rispetto in campo e questo fa si che tutti si divertino di più!). Il prof di storia vende i biglietti all'ingresso, ed è divertente vederlo in altre circostanze al di fuori della classe! Ann e Gary mi vengono a prendere appena prima che la partita finisca, e quindi non so il risultato finale, ma, per quanto possa contare, posso dire: ottimo lavoro ragazzi!!

After lunch, I go to the Baseball game: it's not that I understand everything, but it's a sport that I love (is not aggressive at all, but there is air of respect in the field and this means that everyone gets to enjoy it all more!). My history teacher sells tickets at the entrance, and it's fun to see him in other circumstances outside of class! Ann and Gary come to pick me up just before the game ends, so I do not know the final result, but, for that matters, I can say, great job guys!!

Oggi è il primo giorno del 2016 in cui vado a scuola in pantaloncini: ci sono 25 gradi, sembra di essere in estate!!
Today is the first day of 2016 when I go to school with shorts: there are 72 degrees, and it seems to be in summer!!

E che emozione pranzare all'aperto, sedute per terra e baciate dal sole!
And how exciting it is to eat outside, sitting on the floor and kissed by the sun!

Oggi, a tennis, giochiamo due contro due. La mia compagna ed io perdiamo, ma ci divertiamo comunque e cerchiamo di non mollare fino all'ultimo. Dopo l'allenamento mi fermo per una decina di minuti a vedere le ragazze della squadra varsity allenarsi, e il mio coach mi si avvicina e mi dice: "Sai, quando torni a casa dovresti smettere nuoto e darti al tennis, perchè stai migliorando tanto e sembra proprio il tuo sport". Bhè, lascio il campo con un grande sorriso!
Today, at tennis, we play doubles. My partner and I lose, but we have fun anyway and we try not to give up until the last. After that, I stop for about ten minutes to see the girls in varsity team practicing, and my coach comes to me and tells me: "You know, when you go back home you should stop swimming and dedicate to tennis, because you're definitely improving and it looks like your sport." Well, I leave the courts with a big smile!

Mi muovo verso il campo da baseball, dove Matt e Mike si stanno allenando con la squadra. Mi ricordo quando, in prima media, giocavamo a softball nell'ora di educazione fisica a scuola, per questo mi piace guardarli!!
I move to the baseball field, where Matt and Mike are practicing with the team. I remember when, in sixth grade, I played softball in the PE class at school, and that's why I like watching them!!

Chiara non può concludere una giornata senza "far danni": oggi mi sono dimenticata di portare a scuola le scarpe da tennis, perciò gioco con le Superga e, ora della fine della giornata, i mignolini gridano aiuto, pieni di vesciche...

Chiara can not end a day without "do some kind of damage": today I forgot to take my tennis shoes to school, so I practice with this flat ones and by the end of the day, my pinkies cry for help, full of blisters...

Barbara ed io andiamo da Wendy's per cena (avevamo programmato per una pizza, ma poi cambiamo idea): io prendo il chili, la cui porzione è ora decisamente più piccola, insalata e acqua.
Nella classe di cucina stiamo parlando delle etichette, e non resisto alla tentazione di leggere le calorie presenti nel "dressing" (condimento) per l'insalata: 110 in un pacchettino, ovvero più di quelle che c'erano nello jogurt che ho mangiato per pranzo. Ne faccio volentieri a meno!
Comunque sia, è una delle cene più belle che Barbara ed io abbiamo fatto insieme ultimamente: siamo proprio contente!!
Barbara and I go to Wendy's for dinner (we had planned for a pizza, but then we change our mind): I take the chili, whose portion is now considerably smaller, plus a salad and water.
In the cooking class, we are talking about labels, and I can not resist the temptation to read the calories in the "dressing" for the salad: 110 in a packet, more than those that were in the yogurt I ate for lunch. I happily do without!
Anyway, it's one of the best dinners that Barbara and I have had together lately: are we really happy!!

Dopo cena, Ann e Gary ci vengono a prendere e facciamo una velocissima passeggiata nel centro di Loveland: la strada è viva, i locali aperti, illuminati e pieni, e Barbara ed io ci guardiamo e ci diciamo: la prossima volta che usciamo a cena, dobbiamo venire qui, di venerdì sera, perchè è tutto così speciale!!

After dinner, Ann and Gary pick us up and take us to a very quick walk in the center of Loveland: the street is alive, the locals open, enlightened and full of people, and Barbara and I look at each others and think: the next time we go out to dinner, we have to come here, on Friday night, because everything is so special!!

Programma per domani mattina: andrò a correre e poi Gary mi porterà a colpire la palla da tennis per praticare un po' la battuta (ho un personal trainer!).

Cari genitori, come potete vedere, Skype domani non trova spazio fra gli impegni, magari mi renderò disponibile domenica, ma sono una donna impegnata, quindi vedremo...

Vi voglio sempre bene però ahahah!

Durante l'ora buca, vado da Starbucks, ma questa volta sarete sorpresi di sentire che non sono andata per un caffè o una mocha, ma per un altro, bellissimo motivo: un barista che lavora lì e che ho conosciuto durante le mie eloquenti scampagnate da Starbucks, ha avuto una bambina a Novembre e mi ha chiesto se sono interessata a fare da babysitter. Ma sicuro! Mi porta a casa loro, dove conosco la moglie Ali e la bimba Maddyson. Ha gli occhioni azzurri e mi emoziono a tenerla in braccio! Sono una bellissima, giovane famiglia, e sono super contenta di creare questo legame con loro. Appena inizierò, ovviamente, vi racconterò tutto; per ora dico solo che mi sento fortunata, perchè questa è l'ennesima bella esperienza che farò in questo anno -- e, lo affermo con tutta la convinzione che ho dentro di me:

E' questo l'anno più bello della mia vita.

During the off hour, I go to Starbucks, but this time you will be surprised to hear that I did not go there for a coffee or mocha, but for another, beautiful reason: a barista who works there and who I met during my eloquent visits in Starbucks, had a baby in November and asked me if I was interested in babysitting. For sure! He drives me to their home, where I get to meet his wife Ali and their child Maddyson. She has blue eyes and I get excited to hold her! They are a beautiful, young family, and I'm super happy to create this bond with them. As soon as I begin, of course, will tell you everything; for now I just say that I feel so lucky, because this is another great experience that I will do this year -- and I say this with all the conviction I have inside me:

This is the best year of my life.

Oggi iniziamo il nuovo programma di tennis, divise in squadre: in questo modo abbiamo la possibilità di usare tutti i campi e giocare le nostre prime partite. Facciamo quello che è chiamato "challenge match", ovvero si giocano tante partite finchè uno dei due giocatori ne vince sei. Oggi vinco, e non nascondo di essere molto contenta di questo, ma la cosa più importante per me è aver sperimentato una vera partita, imparato a contare i punti, scambiare il campo quando necessario ecc.. E' stato davvero un bel pomeriggio!
Unica pecca, probabilmente mentre mi toglievo la felpa (c'erano 20 °C oggi!) ho perso la mia collana preferita, a forma di cuore...Today we begin the new tennis schedule, divided into teams: in this way, we can use all the fields and play the our first games. We play what is called a "challenge match", where we play until one player wins six games. Today I win, and I do not hide that I'm very happy about this, but the most important thing for me is having experienced a real game, learned to count the points, switched the courts when needed etc.. It was a really nice afternoon!
The only flaw is that, probably when I took off the sweatshirt (there were 70°F today!) I lost my favorite necklace, with a heart pendant...

Scatto questa foto solo per gli Americani, che collegano sempre gli italiani a questo gesto, e mi faceva ridere accostarlo agli appunti di anatomia (domani ho un test). In realtà non sono così in crisi da dover fare questo gesto, perchè l'argomento (sistema digerente) mi interessa molto, e risulta quindi più facile per me memorizzare, però guardare The Voice con Ann e Barbara è allettante!!
I take this pic just for the Americans, who always link Italians to this gesture, and thinking to connect it to my anatomy notes made me laugh (I have a test tomorrow). In reality, I am not in such a bad situation to make this gesture, because the topic (digestive system) interests me very much, and it is therefore easier for me to memorize, but watching The Voice with Ann and Barbara instead is tempting!!

Riesco a guardare tre aspiranti cantanti esibirsi, mentre ceniamo sul divano con questi bei vassoi. L'uomo di casa non c'è stasera, e così ci prendiamo questa libertà!
I can look at three aspiring singers perform, while we have dinner on the couch with these beautiful trays. The man of the house is not home tonight, so we take this liberty!

Lo Student Council ha annullato il ballo di sabato: avendo venduto soltanto 5 biglietti sino ad ora, Carmen ci ha fatto votare se volevamo organizzare il ballo comunque o se invece volevamo annullarlo (ha parlato di costi, e sforeremmo di tanto il budget, non avendo persone a sufficienza che comprino i biglietti). Io voto per tenere il ballo, ma insieme a pochi altri, quindi la decisione finale è che verrà cancellato. Mi dispiace tanto tanto, soprattutto perchè avevo chiesto a Matt e avevamo organizzato un piano bellissimo per la giornata: andare a vederlo giocare a baseball, cena insieme e poi ballo.
Ma poco male: ne parliamo e decidiamo che io andrò lo stesso alla sua partita, e che poi andremo al cinema e a prenderci un gelato.
Ecco perchè sorrido nella foto: non vedo l'ora di sabato!
The Student Council has canceled the dance on Saturday: having sold only 5 tickets so far, Carmen made us vote on whether we wanted to organize the dance anyway or whether we wanted to cancel it (she talked about costs, and we would spend too much, having not  enough people to buy tickets). I vote to keep the dance, but along with a few others, so the final decision is that it'll be canceled. I'm very sad, especially because I had asked Matt and we had organized a beautiful plan for the day: go see him playing baseball, dinner together and then dance.
But never mind: we talk about it and we decided that I will go to his game anyway, and then we'll go to the movies and to get ice cream.
That's why I smile in the photo: I'm looking forward to Saturday!

Avevo finito di scrivere il blog appena dopo cena, ma ora, prima di andare a letto, mi sento di aggiungere qualcosa di davvero importante: Ann, Gary ed io abbiamo chiacchierato per un'oretta in sala, sul divano, condividendo non solo parole, ma sguardi e sorrisi che mi faranno addormentare con il cuore pieno di dolcezza.

I had finished to write the blog just after dinner, but now, before going to bed, I feel like adding something really important: Ann, Gary and I talked for about an hour in the living room, on the couch, sharing not just words, but looks and smiles that will make me fall asleep with the heart full of sweetness.

I love my life here.

Pubblico questa foto solo per farvi avere un'idea della faccia da rimbambita che mi ritrovo alle 7 della mattina, appena svegliata e prima di andare a scuola. E' concesso prendermi in giro!
I post this picture just to let you get an idea of the stupid face that I find myself with at 7 in the morning, when I just woke up and have to go to school. You're allowed to tease!

Nella classe di cucina, prepariamo diversi tipi di chili (ogni gruppo ha scelto una ricetta diversa), e nell'ultimo quarto d'ora possiamo assaggiare e votare il migliore. Io non provo nulla, perchè è prima mattina e il chili proprio non mi va, ma mi diverto a guardare e ascoltare i commenti dei compagni!
In the cooking class, we prepare different types of chili (each group chose a different recipe), and in the last quarter of an hour we can taste and vote for the best. I do not try anything, because it is early morning and I don't feel like eating chili at all, but I like to watch and listen to the classmates' comments!

Chef Gary ci regala, ancora una volta, una cena speciale, con un pesce super buono. Grazie!!

Dopo cena mi rintano in camera per studiare: il letto diventa una specie di discarica, io mi metto sotto le coperte e inizio a fare i compiti... In particolare, devo studiare calculus, perchè domani abbiamo un test sul capitolo che hanno svolto in parte mentre io ero alle Hawaii. Ce la metto tutta, vediamo come va...
After dinner, I go into my room to study: the bed becomes a kind of a dump, I go under the blankets and start to do my homework... In particular, I have to study for calculus, because tomorrow we have a test on the chapter they covered in part while I was in Hawaii. I put a lot of effort, we'll see how it goes...

Dopo un'ora intensa, gli occhi mi si chiudono davanti a tutti questi integrali. Ciao calculus, è stato bello conoscerti, ma ora vado a dormire perchè sono proprio stanca.
After an intense hour, my eyes close in front of all these integrals. Bye bye calculus, it was nice to meet you, but now I'll go to sleep because I'm really tired.

Oggi gambe durante sollevamento pesi: si diventa forti, piano piano...
Today we do legs during weight lifting: becoming stronger, slowly...

Non so, oggi sono proprio felice... Ho dovuto prendere una bustina di antidolorifico, perchè avevo mal di testa (ieri ho preso tanto freddo a tennis, e poi, quando sono andata a letto, ho sentito che la mia amica sinusite si stava facendo sentire...), ed è stato divertente, perchè ero nell'ora di Storia con Matt e Mike, e non sapevo dove trovare un bicchiere per mischiare la polverina all'acqua. Ci è venuto in soccorso il prof, dicendo che il modo migliore era usare la bottiglia dell'acqua: ho seguito il consiglio, ma non appena ho iniziato ad agitare la bottiglia, la soluzione è diventata molto spumosa e sembrava fosse sul punto di esplodere. Questi due fratelli gemelli birichini continuavano a prendermi in giro, e io non riuscivo ad essere seria, quindi mi sono allontanata e mi sono nascosta dietro al prof per mandare giù quel miscuglio poco piacevole. La loro domanda è stata: "Ma perchè non usi una pastiglia, veloce e indolore?" E io: "Mah, sarà anche più comoda, ma queste bustine arrivano direttamente dall'Italia, non ci sono eguali...!"
Morale della storia, la medicina funziona e sono nel pieno delle mie forze per il resto della giornata!
I do not know why, but today I'm really happy... I had to take a painkiller (ibuprofen), because I had a headache (yesterday I got very cold in tennis, and then when I went to bed, I heard that my friend sinusitis was coming back...), and it was fun, because I was in the Modern America hour with Matt and Mike, and I did not know where to find a glass to mix the powder with water. The teacher saved us, saying that the best way was to use the water bottle: I followed the advice, but as soon as I started to shake the bottle, the solution became very frothy and seemed about to explode. These two mischievous twin brothers continued to tease me, and I could not be serious, so I moved away and I hid behind the prof to drink down that unpleasant mixture. Their question was: "But why don't you use a tablet instead, fast and painless?" I said, 'Well, it would certainly be more convenient, but these bags come from Italy, and there are no equals...! "Moral of the story, the medicine worked and I am in full strength for the rest of the day!

Ho ridotto la quantità di Starbucks in una settimana, perchè era probabilmente esagerata, ma oggi mi concedo una mocha e sono così avida che mi brucio le papille non appena la sorseggio (è ancora bollente...). E' sempre un piacere gustarla, e mi dà una carica speciale prima dell'allenamento di tennis!
I reduced the amount of Starbucks in a week, because it was probably exaggerated, but today I allow myself a mocha and I'm so greedy that I burn the taste buds on my tongue as soon as I sip it (it's still very hot...). It 's always a pleasure to enjoy it, and it gives me a special charge before the tennis practice!

Corsetta di mezz'ora dopo tennis, giusto perchè mi gira così!
Jog for half an hour after tennis, just because I feel like it!

A cominciare da giovedì, ci divideremo in Junior Varsity e Varsity per gli allenamenti, dato che siamo troppe ragazze. Io, ovviamente sono nella Junior Varsity (squadra più "scarsa"), e siamo fortunate, perchè gli allenamenti saranno dalle 3.15 alle 4.45 per noi (invece che dalle 4 alle 6, per la squadra Varsity). Oggi giochiamo e sono così contenta di riuscire a colpire la palla per più di una volta consecutiva: so che può sembrare stupido, ma è una grande soddisfazione per me!

E, Gary, questa mattina, mi dà la notizia della giornata... Sabato notte c'è il cambio dell'ora, e le giornate saranno più lunghe! Quale modo migliore per iniziare la giornata?!

Beginning on Thursday, we will divide in Junior Varsity and Varsity for the practices, since we are too many girls. I obviously am in the Junior Varsity, and we are lucky, because the practices will be from 3.15 to 4.45 for us (instead of 4 to 6, for the Varsity team). Today we play and I'm so happy to be able to hit the ball for more than once in a row: I know it sounds silly, but it is a great satisfaction for me!

And, Gary, this morning, gives me the news of the day... Saturday night is the time change, and the days will be longer! What better way to start the day?!
