Nel pomeriggio, preparo questo frullato di frutta e verdura per Ann, Barbara e me: non è troppo dolce e mi piace proprio per questo!
In the afternoon, I prepare this fruit and vegetable smoothie for Ann, Barbara and me: it is not too sweet and I like it more just for this!

Questa mattina a scuola abbimo assistito al Prom Fashion Show, durante il quale studenti e studentesse hanno sfilato a ritmo di musica, indossando classici vestiti per il Prom -- ballo di fine anno. Ero un po' dispiaciuta, perchè mi sarebbe piaciuto partecipare, ma hanno preso le iscrizioni mentre io ero alle Hawaii e quindi non ne sapevo niente, ma è stato comunque bello assistere.
This morning at school, we go to the Prom Fashion Show, during which girl and boy students walked to the beat of the music, wearing traditional clothes for the prom. I was a little sad, because I would have liked to participate in it, but they talked about it while I was in Hawaii and therefore I knew nothing about this, but it was still nice to see it.

Dopo le lezioni, mi fermo a scuola per osservare e memorizzare i muscoli della gamba del gatto in vista del test che farò martedì prossimo. Barbara resta con me, e vede per la prima volta il gatto, scattando queste foto per me (indossavo i guanti, sporchi, e non volevo toccare il cellulare). E' stato un pomeriggio proficuo ed interessante...
After classes, I stop at school to observe and memorize the muscles of the cat's leg, before the test that I'll take next Tuesday. Barbara stays with me, and sees the cat for the first time, taking these pictures for me (I was wearing dirty gloves, and I did not want to touch the phone). It's been a fruitful and interesting afternoon...

Andiamo a mangiare la pizza da Arte Pizzeria (la pizzeria che avevo scoperto con Kathy circa un mese fa e che mi era piaciuta tantissimo): è una conferma! Grazie Ann!!

Mentre scrivo il blog e guardo High School Musical 2 con Barbara: ora vedo come sia davvero... Americano! Riconosco tanti aspetti e sorrido: gli armadietti a scuola, il palco del teatro, la palestra con il pavimento in parquet, il latte nelle taniche, il loro uso assiduo di "dude" e "buddie", le macchine grandi...
This is while I write the blog and watch High School Musical 2 with Barbara: I now see that it is really... American! I recognize many aspects and smile: the lockers at school, the stage of the theater, the gym with parquet flooring, the milk in the tanks, their regular use of "dude" and "buddie", the big cars...

Nell'ora buca vado a farmi un trattamento ai capelli: la parrucchiera me li lava, massaggia, e applica dei prodotti per renderli soffici, forti e sani. Devo dire che sono stata molto noncurante dei miei capelli ultimamente, ma Ann e Gary mi hanno regalato questo buono a Natale e, specialmente dopo il sole e sale delle Hawaii, i miei capelli mi ringraziano dell'attenzione che finalmente ho dato loro!
During the off hour I go to get a hair treatment: the hairdresser washes, massages, and applies products to make my hair soft, strong and healthy. I must say that I have been very careless about my hair lately, but Ann and Gary gave me this present for  Christmas and, especially after the sun and salt of Hawaii, my hair thanks me for the attention that I finally gave to it!

Starbucks ha lanciato il nuovo Flat White Latte, che altro non è che un normale cappuccino, così mi faccio preparare un assaggio gratis. Bene bene.

Mentre sono a Starbucks incontro Kathy, che segue tutti i miei snapchat tramite sua figlia Rebecca, e che quindi sapeva tutto quello che ho fatto ieri, e Debbie, un'altra barista amica di Ann, che ama l'Italia e che ha scoperto un posto nelle Dolomiti dove vuole assolutamente andare. Caso vuole che questo posto siano proprio le Odle in Val di Funes, dove la mia famiglia ed io andiamo tutte le estati da quando siamo nati.

In questo caso mi sento proprio di dire... "Come è piccolo il mondo!"

While I'm at Starbucks, I meet Kathy, who follows all my Snapchats through her daughter Rebecca, and so she knew everything I did yesterday, and Debbie, another barista who is Ann's friend, who loves Italy and who discovered a place in the Dolomites where she absolutely wants to go. It just so happens that this place is Odle in Val di Funes, where my family and I go every summer since we were born.

In this case I would just say ... "It's a small world!"

Nel pomeriggio, vado a fare una passeggiata nel vicinato, prima che il sole tramonti e inizi a far freschino.

Per cena, Gary prepara purè di patate, mais e pollo impanato al forno: che chef! Domani partirà per andare a Los Angeles, e in casa ci saranno solo donne per cinque giorni...

Questa sera Ann è fuori a mangiare con Will, per la loro serata di San Valentino, e Gary ed io scommettiamo su quale ristorante abbiano scelto: io punto su Mo Betta Gumbo, perchè mi ricordo che, quando ci eravamo andati insieme, a Will era piaciuto molto, mentre Gary dice Carino's, il ristorante Italiano.

Chi vincerà?!

Scriviamo un messaggio a Will per chiedere dove abbiano mangiato e, quando risponde, scopro di aver... Perso. Ma non solo ho perso, Gary ha vinto, perchè di tutti i ristoranti della zona, hanno scelto proprio quello a cui aveva pensato Gary...

Ok Gary, li conosci molto meglio tu di me, sarà per la prossima volta!

In the afternoon, I go for a walk in the neighborhood, before the sun goes down and it starts to chill.

For dinner, Gary prepares mashed potatoes, corn and crispy chicken: what a chef! Tomorrow he will go to Los Angeles, and in the house there will be only women for 5 days...

Tonight Ann is out to dinner with Will, for their Valentine's night out, and Gary and I bet on which restaurant they chose: I say Mo Betta Gumbo, because I remember that when we went together, Will enjoyed it a lot, while Gary says Carino's, the Italian restaurant. Who will win?!

We write a text to Will to ask them where they ate and, when he replies, I find that I have... Lost. But not only have I lost, Gary has won, because of all the restaurants in the area, they chose just what Gary had thought of...

Okay Gary, you know them much better than I do, it will be for next time!

Oggi mi scrive la mia mami, che ha contattato l'hotel dove trascorreremo una notte io e lei soltanto, il primo weekend dopo il mio ritorno a casa. Avevamo già scelto il posto (http://www.villabelvederehotel.it/) sul lago Maggiore, ma ora la domanda era: letto matrimoniale o letti singoli? E la mia risposta è:

"Non ci vediamo da un anno, secondo te?"

Today my mommy wrote me, as she contacted the hotel where we will spend one night, just the two of us, the first weekend after my return home. We had already chosen the place (http://www.villabelvederehotel.it/en) on Lake Maggiore, but now the question was: double or single beds? And my answer is:

"We have not seen each other for a year, so what do you think?"

Dopo cena vado a fare una passeggiata di 25 minuti, ascoltando la musica dall'iPod. E' una tradizione di famiglia che avevo interrotto nelle sere invernali, perchè il gelo bloccava gli arti, ma ora che c'è un pochino più di luce e fa decisamente meno freddo, penso non ci siano più scuse: voglio riprendere a camminare dopo cena tutti i giorni, perchè è qualcosa che mi fa sentire proprio bene!

After dinner, I go for a 25-minute walk, while listening to music from my iPod. It's a family tradition that I had stopped in the winter evenings, because the cold blocked my limbs, but now that there's a little more light and much less cold, I think there are no more excuses: I want to walk again after dinner every day, because it is something that makes me feel very good!

All'ultima ora, che è buca, non potendo fare i compiti perchè ho lasciato il libro a casa, vado da Starbucks e avverto Ann, così che, se non avesse nulla da fare, potrebbe raggiungermi. Mi risponde che è fuori a pranzo con Bri e Gary, nel ristorante cinese proprio di fianco a Starbucks, e mi vede mentre cammino di fronte alla finestra, così mi apre la porta e mi siedo con loro.

Quando torniamo a casa, vado in macchina con Bri: parliamo e ridiamo, mentre lei aziona la funzione nella macchina che riscalda i nostri sederini (che ad un certo punto quasi vanno a fuoco: che ridere!). Sono contenta di averla vista, perchè ci vediamo sempre di sfuggita, ma mi piace veramente passare del tempo con lei. Una volta a casa, faccio i compiti per circa due ore, poi mi preparo la cena e vorrei andare a fare una passeggiata, ma inizia a nevicare, così mi rintano sotto le coperte sul divano, per guardare un episodio di Grey's Anatomy. 

On the last hour, which is off for me, I can not do my homework because I left the book at home, so I walk to Starbucks and warn Ann, so that, if she has nothing to do, she may join me. She replies that she is out to lunch with Bri and Gary, in the Chinese restaurant right next to Starbucks, and sees me as I walk in front of the window, so she opens the door and lets me sit down with them.

As we go home, I go in the car with Bri: we chat and laugh, while she activates the function in the car that warms our bottoms (which, at one point, are almost on fire: so much fun!). I'm glad to have seen her, because we always see each other in passing, but I really like spending time with her. Once home, I do my homework for about two hours, then I prepare dinner and I would go for a walk, but it starts to snow, so I sit on the couch under the blankets to watch an episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Ooops, fuori nevica, Chiarina non se l'aspettava e una faccia da ebete è la reazione...

La classe che è risultata più difficile dopo il ritorno dalle Hawaii è decisamente quella di AP calculus: i nuovi argomenti sembrano cinese, sopravviverò?!
The class that is hardest to follow after coming back from Hawaii is definitely AP calculus: the new topics seem Chinese, will I survive?!

E... Benvenuti in America, dove uno dei compiti è calcolare il volume di una... banana!

Ps Devo dire che non è facile, perchè bisogna usare formule quadratiche e derivare un integrale definito, ma l'oggetto rende lo sforzo più sopportabile e divertente!

And ... Welcome to America, where one of the assignment is to calculate the volume of a... banana!

Ps I must say that it's not easy, because you have to use quadratic functions and derive a definite integral, but the object makes the effort more bearable and fun!

Oggi la cena è "ognuno prepara per sè", e io, prevedibilmente, mi faccio un bel piatto di pasta al pesto!
Today dinner is "everyone on their own", and I, predictably, prepare some pasta with pesto!

Che bel pomeriggio: vado alla prima partita di NBA a Denver (purtroppo perdiamo, ma va bene lo stesso), e mi diverto tantissimo. L'atmosfera è super eccitante, e i fan "scatenati". Dopo la partita andiamo da Starbucks, dove incontriamo Ann, che ci riporta a casa. Chiaccheriamo durante il tragitto e, una volta a casa, andiamo a dormire presto, pronti per questo nuovo lunedì!

What a beautiful afternoon: I go to my first NBA game in Denver (unfortunately we lose, but that's okay), and I really enjoy it. The atmosphere is super exciting, and the fans are just crazy. After the game, we go to Starbucks, where we meet Ann, who takes us back home. We chat on the way home and, once at home, we go to bed early, ready for a new Monday!

Essere un'exchange student significa anche fare Skype con i propri genitori per comprare il biglietto di ritorno.
Ero molto stanca oggi, e ho dormito fino all 9 e mezza (quasi 12 ore di sonno, il mio record da quando sono arrivata qui!). Ma quando mi sveglio faccio Skype, e una delle cose che dobbiamo decidere è la data del mio ritorno: non pensavo sarebbe stato così difficile per me. Sono appena tornata dalle Hawaii, e ho provato cosa significa lasciare un posto che si ama, un posto dove ho creato legami e fatto nuove esperienze, ma tutto questo è durato soltanto una settimana. Mi viene la pelle d'oca quando sono obbligata a pensare al giorno in cui tutta, ma proprio tutta la mia esperienza si concluderà, portandosi con sè i dieci mesi più intensi della mia vita, su tutti i fronti. Sono grata ad Ann, che capisce come mi sento e mi rassicura dicendo che questa è e sarà per sempre la mia casa, dove potrò tornare in qualsiasi momento, e che mi rallegra dicendomi che abbiamo ancora tre magnifici mesi da vivere insieme. Non vedo l'ora e vivrò ogni signolo momento come se fosse l'ultimo.
P.s. Pubblico qui i dettagli del mio volo, così che, se ci fosse qualche exchange student che deve ancora comprare il biglietto e voglia viaggiare insieme a me, in questo modo saprebbe come fare!

Being an exchange student also means to Skype with your parents to buy the return ticket.
I was very tired today, and I slept in until 9.30 am (almost 12 hours of sleep, my record since I got here!). But when I wake up, I Skype, and one of the things that we have to decide is the date of my return: I did not think it would have been so hard for me. I just got back from Hawaii, and I felt what it means to leave a place you love, a place where you created bonds and made new experiences, but this only lasted a week. I get goose bumps when I am forced to think about the day when all, absolutely all my experience will end, concluding the most intense ten months of my life, on all fronts. I am grateful to Ann, who understands how I feel and reassure me by saying that this is and will always be my home, where I can go back at any time, and that makes me happy telling me that we still have three wonderful months to live together. I can not wait for this and I'll live every single moment as if it was the last one.
P.S. Here I post the details of my flight, so that, if there was any exchange student who hasn't buy a ticket yet and wants to travel with me, they would know how to do it!

Nel pomeriggio mi sdraio con l'intento di leggere, ma finisco per addormentarmi e risvegliarmi due ore e mezza dopo: sono sorpresa di me stessa, non succedeva dai tempi del pisolino dopo pranzo con i miei fratelli in montagna!

Ann e Gary preparano una buonissima cena, e Justin accende delle particolari candele in centro tavola.

Io concludo la mia giornata di soli liquidi soddisfatta: a cena mangio una patata lessa e delle carote, rompendo così la regola, ma sentivo di averne bisogno quindi non me ne pento!

Domani pomeriggio andrò a vedere una partita dei Denver Nuggets con altri exchange students, e non vedo l'ora.

Prima di cena, giochiamo a "scoppia il palloncino" con Justin, un gioco divertente e spaventoso allo stesso tempo! Dopo cena, invece, guardiamo il film "l'asilo dei papà", che ho già visto tante volte e che perciò seguo solo a tratti, mentre scrivo il blog al computer. Buona notte a tutti!

In the afternoon, I lie on my bed with the intent of reading, but I end up falling asleep and waking up two hours and a half later: I'm surprised at myself, this didn't happen since the days of the nap after lunch with my siblings in the mountains!

Ann and Gary prepare a delicious dinner, and Justin lights up some special candles in the center of the table.

I conclude my only liquids day being satisfied: I have a boiled potato and some carrots at dinner, thus breaking the rule, but I felt like I needed them so I do not regret it!

Tomorrow afternoon, I'll go watch a Denver Nuggets game with other exchange students, and I can not wait.

Before dinner, we play "blow the balloon" with Justin, a fun and scary game at the same time! After dinner, however, we watch the movie "Daddy Day Care," which I have already seen so many times and that I therefore not follow closely, as I'm writing the blog with my laptop. Good night everyone!

A scuola sono mezza addormentata per tutto il giorno, fino all'ultima ora, quando ho la classe di sollevamento pesi, la mia preferita!
At school I'm half asleep all day, until the last hour, when I have weight lifting, my favorite class!

Caffè nel pomeriggio mentre faccio qualche compito e aspetto che Barbara mi raggiunga. Incontro Kathy e le racconto tutto delle Hawaii, facendole anche vedere il video che ha fatto il mio amico Haakon (guardatelo, merita! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eD_TsnlgKPs).
Usciremo a cena prossimamente!

Cari amici, è finita la vacanza più bella della mia vita. Grazie per essere delle persone così speciali, con cui è stato così facile divertirsi, scherzare ed essere noi stessi.

Grazie Laura, Pia, Federica, Cedric, Gaetano, Matteo, Eline e Valentina: dobbiamo mantenere la promessa e fare una vacanza insieme, ovunque vogliate, perchè siete i migliori e ci divertiremo sicuramente.

Ricorderò ogni singola risata, momento, attività, foto, ballo, proprio tutto!

Grazie per aver reso questa vacanza così... indimenticabile!!!

Ora ho nel mio telefono le città dove vivono i miei amici, e posso dire che oggi le temperature di Loveland non hanno nulla da invidiare a quelle del Texas o dello Utah!
I now have the cities where my frinds live in my phone, and I can say that today temperatures in Loveland did not have anything to envy to the ones in Texas or Utah!

Colazione all'aeroporto di San Francisco, ore 5 della mattina (che sarebbero le 3 alle Hawaii)!
Breakfast in the SFO airport, at 5 am (which is 3 am in Hawaii)!

Prendo il volo Honolulu-San Francisco con Inga, Tirill e Sander, e facciamo colazione insieme, prima di separarci alle 7, quando noi ragazze saliamo sull'aereo per Denver e Sander va invece in Oregon: che bei compagni di viaggio!
I take the Honolulu-San Francisco flight with Inga, Tirill and Sander, and we have breakfast together before we depart at 7 am, when we girls board on the plane to Denver and Sander on the one to Oregon: such nice fellow travelers!

Viaggiare di notte ha i suoi vantaggi: siamo stanchi morti, e ci addormentiamo appena spengono le luci dell'aereo. Le cinque ore di viaggio volano via, e arriviamo a San Francisco senza neanche accorgercene. Lo stesso succede per il secondo volo, verso Denver!
Flying at night has its own advantages: we are dead tired, and fall asleep as soon as the plane takes off. The five hours on the plane fly away, and we arrive in San Francisco without even realizing that. The same happens for the second flight to Denver!

Sono arrivata a casa sana e salva: Ann e Gary sono venuti a prendermi in aeroporto, ho raccontato la vacanza, ci siamo fermati per un caffè, abbiamo fatto un frullato di frutta (rinfrescante!) e ho dato loro qualche regalo/souvenir che ho preso alle Hawaii!
I got home safely: Ann and Gary picked me up at the airport, I told them about the vacation, we stopped for a coffee, we had a fruit smoothie (refreshing!) and I gave them some gifts/souvenirs that I bought in Hawaii!

I riposini delle 2 del pomeriggio, in pigiama e sotto le coperte, sono i migliori!
