Diciamo che i compiti di Calculus oggi sembrano quasi Cinese, e giovedì ho un test. Ce la facciamo? Si dai...
Let's say that the Calculus homework today seems almost Chinese, and I have a test on Thursday. Can I do it? Well, yes...

Oggi imparo a servire la palla da fondo campo (o meglio, mi viene spiegato come e mi cimento nella pratica): bisogna allungare il braccio sopra la testa il più possibile, e colpire con forza. Il problema è che, dopo due ore di allenamento al gelo, non sento più le dita, e trovare la forza di colpire la palla è difficile!! Appena finisce l'allenamento, mi metto addosso tutti i vestiti che ho, cammino verso Starbucks e mi rifugio sul divanetto, tremando per qualche minuto prima di scaldarmi, finalmente!
Today I learn to serve the ball from the baseline (or rather, it is explained to me how to do it and I try my best during practice): you have to stretch your arm above your head as much as possible, and hit the ball hard. The problem is that, after two hours of practice in the cold, I no longer feel my fingers, and finding the strength to hit the ball is hard!! As soon as the practice is over, I wear all the clothes I have in many layers, walk to Starbucks and I seek refuge on the couch, shivering for a few minutes before you warming up, finally!

Niente caffè a quest'ora, perchè sono già le 6 del pomeriggio, ma provo il frappuccino che prende di solito Barbara (al thè verde). E' davvero troppo dolce per me, anche se ho scelto quello che loro chiamano "unsweetened", quindi lo lascio a Barbara, che è contenta di berselo!
No coffee at this time, because it's already 6 pm, but I try the frappuccino that Barbara usually takes  (green tea). It 's really too sweet for me, even though I have ordered what they call "unsweetened", so I leave it to Barbara, who is happy to drink it!

Cena con Barbara, ma siamo stanche e non sappiamo dove andare, quindi andiamo al supermercato. Io mi prendo un'insalata e un panino, mentre lei prendere una caesar salad e una brioche. Non è il massimo, ma almeno siamo insieme. Scrivo anche ad Ann e le chiedo se vuole raggiungerci per un caffè: chiacchieriamo un po' e poi andiamo a casa, dove ci facciamo un frullato di frutta e guardiamo il primo episodio della nuova stagione di The Voice US.
Dinner with Barbara, but we are tired and we do not know where to go, so we just go to the grocery store. I take a salad and a little bread, while she takes a caesar salad and a croissant. Nothing great, but at least we're together. I also text Ann and ask her if he wants to reach for a coffee: we chat a bit and then we go home, where we make a fruit smoothie and watch the first episode of the new season of The Voice US.

Vado a correre per la mia mezz'oretta, oggi però dopo colazione: mi copro tanto, ma c'è il sole e si sta proprio bene all'aperto. Così, quando torno a casa, faccio una doccia, mi vesto - oggi niente tuta, perchè andiamo a vedere una partita di hokey a Loveland nel pomeriggio - e propongo a Barbara di fare una passeggiata, visto che fa quasi caldo all'aperto! Sento la primavera arrivare  e sono così contenta!!!
I go running for a half-hour, but today after breakfast: I cover myself a lot, but the sun is shining and I'm just fine outdoors. So, when I get home, I take a shower, get dressed - today no sweat pants, because we're going to a hockey game in Loveland in the afternoon - and I ask Barbara if she wants to take a walk, as it's so nice and warm outside! I feel the spring coming and I'm so happy!!!

Preparo il pranzo per Barbara e me, e poi andiamo in camera sua, ascoltiamo la musica, scherziamo, ridiamo...
I prepare lunch for Barbara and me, and we then go to her bedroom, listen to music, tease each other, laugh...

Hockey game ticket

E' stato un pomeriggio carino, perchè in compagnia, ma lo sport in sè non mi piace per niente, e la partita dura davvero troppo (3 ore)...
It's been a nice afternoon, because in good company, but as far as hockey, I really don't like it, and the game lasts way too long (3 hours)...

Cena silenziosa, poi passeggiata con Barbara ed Ann. Sono solo le otto, ma sia io che Barbara siamo stanche, quindi viene in camera mia, io finisco il blog mentre lei lavora al suo computer, parliamo un po' e poi ci salutiamo per andare a nanna. Domani è lunedì, e sarà il primo giorno di una settimana (la prima di quattro) senza interruzioni nè weekend lunghi: sarò guerriera, ce la posso fare!!

Che poi, se penso alla scuola in Italia, dove vado anche al sabato e i weekend lunghi non esistono, mi devo solo leccare i baffi, qui, finchè posso...

Quiet dinner, then walk around the block with Barbara and Ann. It's only eight pm, but both Barbara and me are tired, so she comes into my room, I write the blog while she works on her computer, we talk and then we say goodnight to each other before going to bed. Tomorrow is Monday, and it will be the first day of a week (the first of four) without interruption nor long weekends: I'll be a warrior, I can do it!!

But actually, if I think of school in Italy, where I have to go on Saturdays and long weekends do not exist, I just gotta enjoy it here until I can...

Colazione alle 7.30 con porridge, kiwi e mirtilli, mentre guardo fuori dalla finestra e penso a quando potrò far colazione all'aperto...
Breakfast at 7.30 am with oatmeal, kiwi and blueberry, while I look out of the window and I think about the time when I'll be able to eat outdoors...

Skype con la mia famiglia: durante la prima mezz'ora ci sono anche mio papà e mia sorella, ma poi escono e rimango con la mia mamma. Chiacchieriamo per tanto tempo (e forse oggi lei mi batte in quanto a "parlantina"), e mi sembra di essere lì con lei, a parlare di tutto quello che ci piace. Ti amo mami.
Skype with my family: during the first half hour, my dad and my sister are also there, but then they go out and I stay with my mom. We chat for a long time (and she maybe beats me at talking a lot today), and I feel like I am there with her, talking about everything we like. I love you mami.

Ann va a fare la spesa di prima mattina, e compra gli ingredienti per la pizza che preparerò per stasera, insegnando a Barbara come fare. Mi mancava il gesto di impastare, c'è come una magia nascosta nella cucina e io la sento tutta dentro di me...

Ann goes to grocery shop in the early morning, and she buys the ingredients for the pizza that I will prepare for tonight, teaching Barbara how to do it. I missed the gesture of kneading, there is like a hidden magic in the kitchen, and I feel it all inside me...

Dopo pranzo, Gary ci accompagna da Starbucks, dove facciamo i compiti. Io lavoro ad uno studio clinico sulla celiachia per anatomia, e scopro di essere molto più produttiva qui che a casa, perchè dopo un'ora e mezza finisco tutta la ricerca (fra l'altro interessante)!
After lunch, Gary takes us to Starbucks, where we do our homework. I work on a case study on Celiac disease for anatomy, and I find to be much more productive here than at home, because after an hour and a half I am done with all the research (which, by the way, is very interesting)!

...E quando è nel piatto, sono così contenta che mi viene quasi da piangere. E' una tradizione di famiglia alla quale ho scoperto di essere legata molto più di quanto pensassi (prendevo in giro mio fratello perchè per lui la pizza della domenica era sacra, ma ora mi trovo ad essere completamente d'accordo!!).
Grazie Ann, grazie Gary, per avermi fatto cucinare quello che per me è il mio piatto preferito da preparare. <3
...And when it is in the plate, I'm so happy that I almost want to cry. It's a family tradition to which I find myself to be bonded so much more than I thought (I used to tease my brother because the pizza on Sunday was sacred for him, but now I find myself to completely agree!!).

Inizio la giornata all'insegna dello sport, con una mezz'oretta di corsa e due ore di tennis: oggi giochiamo nel campo piccolo, e mi diverto così tanto che l'allenamento "vola via" senza che io me ne accorga.
I start my day with sports, with half an hour of running and two hours of tennis: today we play in the small field, and I enjoy it so much that the practice "fly away" without my even noticing.

...E il cappellino mi aiuta un sacco per proteggermi dal sole, non è solo questione di stile ahaha!...And the hat helps me a lot to protect me from the sun, is not just a matter of style ahaha!

Gary mi viene a prendere, pranziamo a casa e poi usciamo per andare in Wyoming (confinante a Nord del Colorado). Il viaggio in macchina dura circa un'oretta, ed è affascinante guardare fuori dal finestrino e vedere queste enormi distese di terra, riempite qua e là da pale eoliche (Gary ci spiega infatti che ogni anno in Wyoming c'è il "festival del vento", dal 1° gennaio al 31 dicembre!).
Gary picks me up, we have lunch at home and then we go out to go to Wyoming. The journey time in the car is approximately an hour, and it's fascinating to look out the window and see these huge expanses of land, filled here and there with some wind turbines (Gary actually explains to us that every year in Wyoming there's the "wind festival " from January 1st to December 31st!).

Ci sono quattro stivali come questo sparsi attorno alla piazza, e sono un più caratteristico dell'altro!
There are four boots like this scattered around the square, and they're all so characteristic!

 

Ann è la nostra guida turistica, e, con una cartina fra le mani, ci guida per le vie di questa bella città. Riconosciamo tratti del famoso "Wild Wild West", e sembra di essere in un film western! Che bella gita!!!!

Ann is our tour guide, and, with a map in her hands, she guides us through the streets of this beautiful city. We recognize traits of the famous "Wild Wild West", and it seems to me as if we are in a Western movie! What a lovely field trip!!!!

Dal finestrino della macchina, vediamo antilopi (nella foto), e più tardi bisonti, i due animali più caratteristici dello Stato: siamo proprio fortunati!
From the car window, we see antelopes (in the pic), and later buffalos, the two most characteristic animals of the State: we are just so lucky!

Nel pomeriggio andiamo a far shopping in un mall, e, mentre Barbara è alla cassa per pagare il suo vestito (fra l'altro, le sta proprio bene addosso), io provo questi occhiali da sole e me li compro senza pensarci due volte. Mi piacciono tanto!
In the afternoon, we go shopping in a mall, and while Barbara is paying for her dress (which I have to say, looks so good on her), I try on these sunglasses and buy them without thinking twice. I like them a lot!

Dopo cena, Barbara ed io andiamo a camminare sotto un cielo stellato che lascia senza fiato, poi ci mettiamo sotto le coperte del suo letto e guardiamo un episodio di Masterchef.

After dinner, Barbara and I go for a walk under a starry sky that leaves me breathless, and we then go under the blankets of her bed to watch an episode of Masterchef.

Vado a correre alle 7.45 della mattina, e niente è più bello di una colazione in terrazza. Fa un po' freddo e sono sudata, quindi non riesco a stare fuori per troppo tempo, ma mi sento così rilassata e felice che penso che questo posto stia letteralmente rubando il mio cuore...
I go running at 7:45 in the morning, and nothing is more beautiful than a breakfast on the terrace. It's a little cold and I'm sweaty, so I can not stay out for too long, but I feel so relaxed and happy that I think this place is literally stealing my heart...

Vado all'allenamento dij tennis, e oggi lavoriamo singolarmente con l'allenatore, ottenendo maggiori risultati, e giochiamo la nostra prima partita. Ogni giorno sono contenta di andare all'allenamento e imparare qualcosa di nuovo: mi sto innamorando di questo sport, e non me l'aspettavo per niente!
I go to the tennis practice, and today we work individually with the coach, getting greater improvements, and we play our first game. Every day I'm happy to go to training and learning something new: I'm falling in love with this sport, and I did not expect it at all!

Ok, posso svegliarmi presto, correre, e fare due ore di allenamento di tennis, ma dopo pranzo crollo, e mi addormento sul divano per due ore e mezza. Bella la vita...

Ok, I can wake up early, run, and do two hours of tennis practice, but I collapse after lunch, and I fall asleep on the couch for two and a half hours. Life's good...

Nel pomeriggio vado a vedere Will (nella foto) e Gary giocare a tennis, per capire un po' meglio come funzioni il gioco, come colpire la palla, come muoversi sul campo...
In the afternoon, I go to see Will (in the picture) and Gary playing tennis, to understand the game a little more, such as how to hit the ball, how to move on the field...

Ecco Gary: posso solo dire che lo ammiro, perchè, soltanto quest'anno, ha deciso di imparare e perfezionarsi in questo sport, migliorando così tanto che potrebbe benissimo essere il mio allenatore. Mi aiuta anche molto, perchè mi spiega come il punteggio funzioni, cosa i termini specifichi significhino ecc.. Grazie davvero Gary!
Here is Gary: I can only say that I admire him, because only this year, he decided to learn and improve in this sport, and he became so good that he could very well be my coach. He also helps me a lot, because he explains me how the scoring system works, what the specific terms mean etc.. Thank you so much Gary!

Dopo cena, Barbara cucina dei browniess, mentre io vado a fare una passeggiata e chiamo Valentina (per chi non ricordasse, è la ragazza di Lecco che ho conosciuto alle Hawaii): la linea continua a cadere, e ci richiamiamo a vicenda probabilmente per una ventina di volte (tralasciando la mia bellissima segreteria...), ma ridiamo come due sceme per tutto il tempo. Grazie grazie grazie Vale, ti terrò aggiornata su tutto e prometto di non chiamarti più mentre sei in classe la mattina!!

After dinner, Barbara cooks brownies while I go for a walk and call Valentina (for those who do not remember, she is the Italian girl I met in Hawaii): we've been cut off so many times, and we call each other again probably twenty times (not counting my beautiful voicemail...), but we laugh so hard all the time. Thank you thank you thank Vale, I will keep you updated on everything and I promise not to call you again while you're in class in the morning!!

Progetto 3D per la classe di calculus: Nicole, compagna di classe e di tennis, viene a casa nostra dopo l'allenamento e, dopo 2 ore di duro lavoro, concludiamo il progetto!
3D project for the calculus class: Nicole, classmate and tennis player, comes to our house after practice and, after two hours of intense work, we complete our project!

Oggi è l'ultimo giorno di dissezione del gatto: tiriamo tutti un sospiro di sollievo, perchè non è sempre stato facile prendere in mano il bisturi e tagliare per un'ora e mezza pelle, muscoli, organi. Ma sono stata in un gruppo bellissimo, e ho potuto osservare dal vivo tutto quello che studiavamo in classe, e non ha prezzo.

Grazie America, ricorderò tutto quello che ho visto e toccato, e sarò sempre grata per averlo potuto fare durante la scuola superiore.

Today is the last day of cat dissection: we all pull a sigh of relief, because it was not always easy to pick up the scalpel and cut for an hour and a half skin, muscles, organs. But I was in a wonderful group, and I could observe everything we studied in class, and this is just priceless.

Thanks America, I will always remember everything I've seen and touched, and I will always be grateful for having been able to do this in high school.

Justin ed Elora si svegliano prestissimo, anche se andranno a scuola più tardi, e si mettono in posa da boss mentre io sto per uscire. La giornata inizia con il sorriso!
Justin and Elora wake up very early, even if they'll go to school later, and they pose like a boss while I'm about to go out. The day starts with a smile!

Ceniamo con Will e poi giochiamo a carte: Ann vince tutte le mani, come è possibile? Un po' di bravura c'è sicuramente, ma siamo tutti impressionati dalla incredibile fortuna che sembra sempre giocare dalla sua parte... Ma devo ammettere che ci divertiamo tanto insieme, e questo è quello che conta di più!

Poi guardiamo il primo episodio della seconda stagione di "Better Call Saul" -- spin off di Breaking Bad -- e poi nanna.

We have dinner with Will and then play cards: Ann wins every hand, how is it possible? A little bit of skill is definitely there, but we are all impressed by the incredible luck that always seems to play on her side... But I have to admit that we have a lot of fun together, and that's what counts the most!

Then we watch the first episode of the second season of "Better Call Saul" - the Breaking Bad spin off - and then go to sleep.

Oggi vi spiego come ho invitato un ragazzo al prossimo ballo della scuola...

Today I will explain you how I invited a guy to the next school dance...

Tutto è iniziato ieri sera, quando ho trovato il coraggio, che cercavo da tanto, per invitare Matt, un amico specials che ho conosciuto subito, all'inizio dell'esperienza. Nel primo semestre abbiamo avuto le classi di inglese e modern america insieme, e siamo anche entrambi nello Student council, mentre in questo nuovo semestre siamo nella stessa classe di modern america e abbiamo la stessa ora buca alla fine della giornata. Ci siamo conosciuti di più in questi ultimi mesi, e ho sempre apprezzato i momenti che abbiamo passato insieme, ridendo e scherzando. Sarà una serata bellissima, lo so già!
It all started last night, when I finally found the courage to invite Matt, a special friend that I met right at the beginning of the experience. In the first semester, we had the English and modern america classes together, and we are both in the Student council, while in this new semester we are in the same modern America class and we have the same off hour at the end of the day. We got to know each other more in these past months, and I have always enjoyed the moments we spent together, laughing and joking. It will be a beautiful evening, I already know!

Durante l'ora di modern america, partecipiamo ad un progetto al computer (siamo nello stesso gruppo), e ad un certo punto mi allontano dal laboratorio, torno in classe, apro una tasca laterale del suo zaino, e ci infilo il pacchetto che ho preparato per lui. Dopodichè torno al computer come se niente fosse. Quando l'ora finisce, faccio il test di anatomia (che fra l'altro va molto bene - 75/60, guadagno i punti extra - e sono soddisfatta), e poi vado da Starbucks, da dove gli mando questo snapchat.
E la sua risposta è... "Of course I'll go with you!"
During the modern America class, we participate in a computer project (we are in the same group), and at some point I walk away from the lab, go back to class, open a side pocket of his backpack, and there I put the package I prepared for him. Then I go back to the computer as if nothing happened. When the hour is over, I do the anatomy test (which is very good - 75/60, getting the extra points - and I'm satisfied), and then I go to Starbucks, from where I send him this Snapchat.
His answer is... "Of course I'll go with you!"

He asked me what I'm gonna wear, and I think of a skirt that I also brought to Hawaii. I keep smiling, cause I'm really happy when I think of this new American experience!

Un po' di serietà: caffè e ripasso...
A bit of seriousness: coffee and rehearse...

Per cena, Gary prepara un petto di pollo buonissimo, insieme a riso, quinoa e carote, e vediamo Will di nuovo, dopo tante settimane. Dopo mangiato, Barbara ed io andiamo a fare una lunga passeggiata, durante la quale chiacchieriamo di tutte le belle cose che sono successe durante la giornata. Poi arriva Ann, con Justin ed Elora, che dormiranno qui stanotte. Justin costruisce un tavolo di carta e mi chiede: "Se riesco a finirlo, posso essere il boss?". Ebbene sì Justin, una volta che vedo l'opera completa, te lo devo proprio concedere: "Congratulazioni boss!!"

For dinner, Gary prepares a delicious chicken breast, along with rice, quinoa and carrots, and we see Will again, after so many weeks. After dinner, Barbara and I take a long walk, during which we talk of all the good things that happened during the day. Then Ann gets home with Justin and Elora, who will sleep here tonight. Justin builds a paper table and asks me: "If I can finish it, I can be the boss?". Yes Justin, once I see the complete work, I really have to give you this: "Congratulations boss!!"
