Prima cosa che faccio la mattina è impastare la focaccia.
The first thing I do in the morning is making the dough for focaccia (kind of flat bread).

 Poi, mentre lievita, vado a correre per 5km, e poi torno indietro camminando, concludendo una bella mattinata all'aria aperta.Then, while it's rising, I go running for a 5k and then I come back home walking. concluding a nice morning ijn the fresh air.

E per quanto possa voler bene alla mia famiglia Americana, non posso e non voglio dimenticare di avere una famiglia a Milano, che mi vuole tanto bene e che io amo più di ogni altra cosa al mondo. E' importante per me salutarvi in questo giorno di festa, e vedervi così contenti del vostro pranzo dal nonno e zii.

Ps. E messaggio anche con la mia sorellina pesciolino, che è via con la squadra di nuoto: che donna!!

And no matter how much I love my American family, I can not and don't want to forget I have a family in Milan, who loves me so much and whom I love more than anything else in the world. It is important for me to see you on this festive day, and seeing you so happy with about your lunch at grandpa and uncle's.

Le lasagne sono fuori dal forno e il profumino è buonissimo: buon lavoro!

Iniziamo a manngiare? Sì, tutto è pronto e la fame non manca!

Cotolette: mentre friggo mi schizzo di olio e burro bollente, e uso due padelle per fare più veloce (preparo circa 30 cotolette) e, quando finisco, puzzo di trattoria: i miei vestiti hanno assorbito qualsiasi odore nell'aria, ma almeno il pollo è cotto bene e me ne accorgo quando vedo che Gary si infiltra in cucina per rubarne dei pezzetti, ancora prima che la cena sia iniziata!!

Cutlets: while I'm frying, boiling oil and butter splashes on me, and I use two pans to make it faster (I prepare about 30 cutlets), and when I finish, I stink like a trattoria: my clothes have absorbed any odor in the air, but at least the chicken is well cooked and I realize it when I see that Gary infiltrates into the kitchen to steal some pieces, even before dinner has begun!!

Dopo cena, vado a fare una passeggiata con Justin, e giochiamo a lanciarci addosso la neve con queste racchette. In questo modo, il coniglio pasquale ha la possibilità di entrare nel giardino e spargere le uova attorno alla casa senza che nessuno lo veda!

After dinner, I go for a walk with Justin, and we play to throw snow at each other with these rackets. In this way, the Easter bunny has the chance to enter the garden and scatter the eggs around the house without anyone seeing him!

Una Chiara che torna bambina, e prende la gara seriamente, cercando di trovare più uova possibile. Mi vergogno un po', ma mi sono divertita proprio tanto!
A Chiara who returns a child, and takes the race seriously, trying to find as many eggs as possible. I am a little ashamed, but I enjoyed it so much!

Poi mangiamo il tiramisu, ed Ann mi dice che è il migliore che abbia fatto finora (sono così contenta!), mentre Shane si mangia una fetta gigante e se ne porta a casa altrettanto. Diciamo pure che è stato un successo. Dopodichè, Briana, Shane e Justin vanno a casa, mentre noi rimaniamo a casa, e tutti sono così pieni che si addormentano sul divano mentre guardano il campionato di basket delle squadre dei college. Io nel frattempo scrivo il blog, perchè prevedo di essere troppo stanca stasera per raccontarvi tutto!

Aggiungo solo che, alla fine di questo stimolante weekend in cucina, sono grata ad Ann e Gary per avermi dato la possibilità di dar sfogo alla mia creatività e avermi dato così tanta soddisfazione oggi. Queste due giornate sono un ricordo che mi porterò con me per sempre, ne sono sicura!

Then we eat tiramisu, and Ann tells me that it's the best I've done so far (I'm so happy!), while Shane eats a giant slice and brings home quite a big piece as well. Let's just say it was a success. Then, Briana, Shane and Justin go home, while we remain at home, and everyone is so full that they fall asleep on the couch while watching the NCAA. In the meantime, I am writing the blog, because I plan to be too tired tonight to tell you everything!

I add only that, at the end of this stimulating weekend in the kitchen, I am grateful to Ann and Gary for giving me the opportunity to give vent to my creativity and for giving me so much satisfaction today. These two days are a memory that I will carry with me forever, I'm sure!

Sveglia alle 7 per cucinare! Scrivo alla mia mami per gli ultimi consigli, e poi vado giù, pronta per iniziare!
Alarm at 7 am to cook! I write to my mom for the last-minute advice, and then I go downstairs, ready to start!

La prima cosa che metto a cuocere è il ragu di carne: uso un pentolone, perchè le quantità sono davvero grandi, e metto sul fuoco alle 7.30.
The first thing I cook is the ragu (marinara sauce with meat): I use a big pot, because the quantities are really huge, and I put it on the stove at 7.30.

Continuo a girare ogni circa 20 minuti, e ogni volta che sollevo il coperchio, il profumo di casa invade le mie narici e penso a mio nonno: penso che le lasagne siano sempre state una delle sue specialità, e il ragu mi fa tornare bambina...
I keet stirring every about 20 mins, and every time I lift the lid, the smell of my home invades my nostrils, and I think about my grandpa: I believe that lasagna has always been one of his specialties, and ragu makes me a child again...

Dovendo aspettare circa quattro ore prima che il ragu sia completo, decido di iniziare a preparare il dessert: l'amato tiramisu. Questa volta però, chiedo ad Ann se posso usare la mocha per il caffè, che risulta quindi più forte e meno annacquato. Lei risponde "of course", così la riempio e aspetto che il caffè venga su. Nel frattempo preparo la crema al mascarpone, e questa volta il centro dei miei pensieri è la mia sorellina, che ama il tiramisu e che chiede alla mamma di prepararglielo ad ogni suo compleanno. Aspetta un attimo, anche Barbara, adora il tiramisu: il destino vuole che questo dolce sia particolarmente apprezzato dalle mie sorelle!!

Having to wait for about four hours before ragu is complete, I decide to start preparing the dessert: the beloved tiramisu. This time, however, I ask Ann if I can use the mocha ("machine" in the pic) for the coffee, which is therefore stronger and less watered down. She replies "of course", so I the fill it and wait for the coffee to come up. In the meanwhile, I prepare the mascarpone cream, and this time the center of my thoughts is my little sister, who loves tiramisu and always asks my mom to prepare it for her birthdays. Wait a minute, also Barbara loves tiramisu: the fate wants that this dessert is especially appreciated by my sisters!!

Prossima ricetta: torta pasqualina. Mi sono appuntata tutto quello di cui ho bisogno e che devo fare, su un foglio che è stato sacro per me oggi, e ho completato anche questa ricetta con successo!
Next recipe: Easter cake (kind of quiche). I wrote down everything I need and need to do, on a piece of paper which was holy for me today, and I completed also this recipe with success!

Poi faccio le lasagne: ho leggermente paura per la besciamella, perchè non l'ho mai fatta, ma la mia mami, eh sì di nuovo lei, mi spiega bene come farla e mi salva dicendomi di stare attenta a non lasciarla troppo sul fuoco perchè si rapprende molto prima di quello che potrei pensare. Va tutto liscio per foruna, e le sono grata ancora una volta! Questa è la foto delle lasagne composte, che infornerò poi domani prima di cena!

Then I make lasagna: I was slightly scared for the cheese sauce, because I'd never done it, but my mom, and yes, her again, explains me how to make it well and saves me by telling me to be careful not to leave it too much on the stove because It hardens much sooner than you might think. It's all smooth for foruna, and I am grateful once again! This is the pic of the ready lasagna, that I'll put in the oven tomorrow before dinner!

L'avventura in cucina di oggi si conclude alle 2.30, ma non lascio la stanza fino alle 3, perchè voglio pulire tutti gli utensili che ho usato e che ho accumulato nel lavandino. Una volta finito, sono contentissima di questa giornata (GRAZIE ANN & GARY!!!), e mi sento di andare a fare una passeggiata verso Starbucks -- i soliti 5 km. Barbara decide di venire con me, e sono contenta di condividere il tragitto con lei! Poi vi viene a prendere Will, e torniamo a casa per fare un'attività pasquale molto Americana!

The adventure in the kitchen today ends at 2:30 pm, but I do not leave the room until 3 pm, because I want to clean all the tools that I used and that I have accumulated in the sink. Once finished, I'm very happy for this day (THANK ANN & GARY!!!), and I feel like going for a walk to Starbucks -- the usual 5 km. Barbara decides to come with me, and I'm happy to share the journey with her! Then Will picks us up, and we go home to make a very American-Easter activity!

Buongiorno mondo, è venerdì e sono molto molto contenta, perchè domani e domenica cucinerò tutto il giorno e non vedo l'ora!!
Good morning world, it's Friday and I'm very very happy, because tomorrow and Sunday I get to cook all the day, and I can't wait for it!!

Ho aspettato il risultato di questo test per settimane, perchè era molto più difficile del solito e avevo paura di aver fatto troppi errori. Quando però il prof mette i voti sul registro, e vedo il 100%, rimango stupita, contenta e la giornata prende una piega ancora migliore. Che bello!!
I have waited for this result for weeks because this test was much harder than usual and I was afraid of having made too many mistakes. However, when the teachers enters the grades in the gradebook, and I see my 100%, I am taken surprise, I am happy and the day becomes even better. Hurray!! 

Skype per una mezz'oretta con i miei genitori, e poi per più di un'ora con il mio fratellone. Ho la famiglia più bella del mondo, punto.
Skype for a half hour with my parents, and then for more than a hour with my big brother. I have the best family in the entire world, that's all.

Il mio programma è di tornare a casa a piedi, a bordo della strada (circa un'ora a buon passo), e quando Ann mi sorprende da Starbucks, mi tenta, chiedendomi se voglio tornare con lei in macchina. Per quanto allettante, decido di non accettare, e inizio a camminare, con guanti, cappellino e sciarpa, e cantando a squarciagola (dalla macchina nessuno mi può sentire!!) mentre marcio verso casa.
Che bell'idea, sono proprio contenta di aver trovato la forza ed essere andata!!

My plan is to go home on foot, on the edge of the road (about an hourwalking at a good pace), and when Ann surprises me at Starbucks, she tempts me, asking me if I want to go home by car with her. Despite the temptation, I decide not to accept, and I start walking, wearing gloves, hat and scarf, and singing out loud (no one can hear me from their car!!) while marching home.
What a beautiful idea, I'm really glad I found the strength and did this!!

Per cena, frullato di frutta e verdura e poi Grey's Anatomy. Poi vado a farmi due passi nel vicinato, mentre chiamo la Vale. Ora la giornata è ufficialmente completa e posso andare a dormire, aspettando con ansia domani. Buona notte!!

For dinner, fruit and vegetable shake and then Grey's Anatomy. Then I go walking in the neighborhood, while I call Vale. Now the day is officially complete and I can go to bed, waiting for tomorrow. Good night!!

Quest'uomo si merita di essere nella prima foto di oggi: è l'insegnante-studente della classe di Modern America, ed è stato con noi sin dall'inizio di questo semestre. Mi sono sempre divertita, e con lui imparare non è mai stato un peso, ma oggi è stata probabilmente la lezione più interattiva e produttiva di sempre: lunedì avremo un test, così oggi abbiamo ripassato giocando a "Jeopardy" e cercando di fare canestro con questa palla di spugna. La nostra squadra, molto entusiasta e competitiva, ha vinto, e avremo così 3 punti extra nel test. Spero che riproponga questo gioco di nuovo, perchè, essendoci sfida nell'aria, tutti si sono impegnati di più e ascoltato le risposte con attenzione. Bella lì!

This man deserves to be in the first picture today: it is the student teacher in  Modern America, and has been with us since the beginning of this semester. I have always had fun, and with him learning has never been a burden, but today was probably the most interactive and productive lesson ever: Monday we will have a test, so today we rehearsed playing "Jeopardy" and trying to shoot the basket with this foam ball. Our team, very enthusiastic and competitive, won, and so we will have 3 extra points in the test. I hope we will redo this game again, because, thanks to the challenge in the air, we all committed more and listened to the answers carefully. Very good!

Dopo scuola, aspetto fuori dalla palestra per qualche minuto: Ann e Barbara mi vengono a prendere e andiamo a bere una mocha alla ciliegia. Barbara è tornata dalle Hawaii, e appena arrivano a scuola ci abbracciamo: ora siamo di nuovo al completo, ed è bello rivederla, ascoltare le sue storie, e sapere che si è divertita in vacanza!!!

Stiamo fino alla chiusura del bar, alle 3, e i baristi ci offrono un pezzetto di torta alla cannella fatta in casa molto sfiziosa. Bene, ora possiamo tornare a casa!

After school, I wait out of the gym for a few minutes: Barbara and Ann are picking me up and we'll go drink a cherry mocha. Barbara is back from Hawaii, and as soon as they get to school, we hug each other: the family is now back together, and it is good to see her, listen to her stories, and know that she enjoyed the vacation!!!

We stay until the closure of the bar, at 3 pm, and the bartenders offer us a piece of home-made cake with cinnamon which is very tasty. Well, now we can go home!

Cena cinese al Canton Palace: tutto buono! Siamo seduti allo stesso tavolo dove, due anni e mezzo fa, mio fratello, Solveig, Ann e Gary erano seduti, cenando per conoscersi nei primi giorni dell'aventura. Ebbene, noi dell'avventura abbiamo ancora soltanto poco più di due mesi, così Ann tira fuori un'agenda e ci chiede quali sono le cose che vorremmo fare prima di tornare a casa; alcune di queste sono: fare una camminata nelle Rocky Mountains, andare a Colorado Springs, andare a Las Vegas (sabato prossimo, per la pausa primaverile -- parliamo del programma e non vedo l'ora!!), fare un barbecue e dormire in giardino... Nel frattempo diventerò anche adulta!! Ci aspettano due mesi speciali!

Chinese dinner at the Canton Palace: all good! We are sitting at the same table where, two and half years ago, my brother, Solveig, Ann and Gary were sitting, having dinner to get to know each other in the early days of the adventure. Well, we only have just a little more than two months left of the adventure, so Ann pulls out an agenda and asks us what are the things we want to do before going back home; some of these are: a altitude hike in the Rocky Mountains, going to Colorado Springs, going to Las Vegas (next Saturday, for spring break - we talk about the program and can not wait for it!!), having a barbecue and sleeping in garden ... In the meantime, I'll also become an adult!! We have two special months ahead of us!

Pollo teriaki. Inutile dire che il riso manco lo tocco, e che metà del pollo rimane nel piatto. Ma ci tengo a sottolineare che è solo per le enormi quantità che ci vengono servite, non per la qualità, perchè il gusto è davvero buono, e lascio il ristorante con lo stomaco pieno e il sorriso sulle labbra!
Teriyaki chicken. Needless to say that I don't even touch the rice, and that half of the chicken is left in the plate. But I want to emphasize that this is only because of the huge amounts that I am served, not for the quality, because the taste is really good, and I leave the restaurant with a full stomach and a smile on my lips!

Camminata nel vicinato, mentre il sole tramonta, e il cielo, insolitamente nuvoloso, mi lascia senza fiato. Mi fermo a contemplare questo paradiso.
Walk in the neighborhood, while the sun sets and the sky, unusually cloudy, leaves me breathless. I stop to contemplate this paradise.

Niente scuola oggi: sembra che una tempesta abbia colpito il Colorado -- neve e forte vento! Bhe, a questo punto torno sotto le coperte...
No school today: it seems like a blizzard hit Colorado -- snow and strong wind! Well, let's go back to sleep then...

L'elettricità salta circa dalle 8 della mattina alle 8 di sera: fa freddo in casa, ma per fortuna abbiamo il camino, poi dopo mangiato mi addormento per un'ora e mezza, sotto le coperte del mio lettuccio. Ann poi bussa alla porta, e mi propone di andare con lei e Gary a bere un caffè dai loro amici che vivono nel vicinato di fronte al nostro, e di andare a fare la spesa per Pasqua. Per finire, ceniamo da Qdoba e poi torniamo a casa, accendendo candele e creando un'atmosfera... diversa! Quando poi riabbiamo l'elettricità, facciamo un frullato di frutta e verdura, caffè con la mocha, e iniziamo una nuova serie, molto simile a Grey's Anatomy -- HeartBeat --, e dal primo episodio accattivante. Buona notte!

Electricity falls down from about 8 am to 8 pm: it is cold in the house, but fortunately we have the fireplace, then after lunch I fall asleep for an hour and a half, under the blankets of my bed. Ann then knocks on my door, and asks me to go with Gary and her to habe coffee at their friends' who live in the neighborhood in front of ours, and to go grocery shopping for Easter. Finally, we have dinner at Qdoba and then we go home, lighting candles and creating an atmosphere which is... different! When we finally get electricity back, we make a fruit and vegetable smoothie, coffee with the mocha, and we start a new series -- HeartBeat --, much like Grey's Anatomy, and the first episode is captivating. Good night!

Ragazzi, sono troppo divertita da questa neve del 23 marzo, soprattutto perchè non abbiamo corrente elettrica, camminiamo in mezzo alla neve che arriva fino al ginocchio, e fino a ieri c'erano venti gradi e mi sono allenata in canottiera. Ripeto, mi viene troppo da ridere! Colorado, almeno non sei mai noioso!
Guys, I'm too amused by this March 23 snow, mostly because we have no electricity, we walk in a snow that reaches our knees, and until yesterday, there were 70 degrees and I practiced in a tanktop. I repeat, it is too funny! Colorado, at least you're never boring!

Una cosa che non vi ho mai detto è che qui ci sono due cassieri alla cassa del supermercato: uno batte i prodotti, l'altro li imbusta e mette nel carrello. In pratica quando fai la spesa devi soltanto strisciare la carta di credito: più facile di così!
One thing that I have never told you is that here are two cashiers at the supermarket checkout: one scans the products, the other envelopes them and puts them in the cart. Actually, when you go shopping, you just have to swipe your credit card: it couldn't be easier than this!

Buon ventesimo compleanno al fratellone migliore del mondo. Grazie per esser sempre stato e continuare ad essere un punto di riferimento così bello per me. Non vedo l'ora di parlare con te, abbracciarti, e riprendere a fare tutte le cose che abbiamo sempre fatto insieme e che hanno reso la mia vita un po' più divertente, piena, e felice.
Ti voglio bene.
Happy twentieth birthday to the best big brother in the world. Thank you for always have been and continue to be such a great reference point for me. I can not wait to talk to you, hug you, and go on doing all the things we've always done together and that made my life a little bit more fun, full, and happy.

Dopo un allenamento stimolante e competitivo, Gary mi porta con lui in biblioteca: lui è ad un meeting, io ripasso e mi rilasso. Poi, ad un certo punto, mi svacco sulla poltrona e mi addormento. Mi sveglio quando Gary arriva e mi smuove il piede, scoppiandomi a ridere in faccia. Ammetto che in questa situazione ha tutte le ragioni per farlo...
After a stimulating and competitive practice, Gary takes me with him to the library: he has a meeting, while I rehearse and relax. Then, at some point, I lay on the chair and fall asleep. I wake up when Gary comes and moves my foot, bursting out laughing at me. I admit that, in this situation, he has all the reasons to do so...
